Southern high society was one thing but the world of a Debutante was a whole other can of worms.

She had done it all her childhood in her last life and ditched it once she hit her late teens years and when she found herself reborn in southern high society again, well it had only been natural to let her Gran and mother "enroll" her.

It was easy and didn't take up much time when she was younger. This time around. Since she already knew her etiquette to the T, it was only a matter of attending the private lessons four times a week for a hour since she was so good at "learning" - it was easy to fake genius when you knew the material before hand - and she did pageants.

Boy did she do pageants.

And parties, and brunches, and balls.

It was a rabbit hole but she enjoyed it.

The cattiness invoked in those things were delicious.

Gather enough petty and cut throat women in one room and one would have a group of Debutantes.

Now when Esper moved to Phoenix her involvement in the South's high society never really stopped. Sure it went down because she was older and had more responsibilities but that didn't mean she was quitting.

Doing so in her old life had been a tiny rebellion and here, with everyone she had come to know, there wasn't a need to rage against the machine. Especially when the machine was raging right alongside her.

Her mother was such a beautiful and free soul and Esper hoped that she could be atleast ¼ of the woman she was.

Especially when the blond got to see her mother bulldoze these conniving blue blooded bitches who had some sort of grudge against the business woman.

For what? One could only guess with Debutantes. It could range from Patricia having burned down their crops and cursed their wombs barren to having taken the last cup of Jello when she was in the third grade.

God, did Esper thrive off negative energy or what? Just thinking about all the pettiness was making her feel more and more awake at this party.

And to believe, all this hostility in the air all started because some rich bitches had called Esper a bastard in not so many words.

Just a little comment here and there about a proper male presence that all children needed but didn't have and Patricia was turning with a cold but oh so very alluring smile on her heart shaped face and for a moment, Esper thought she smelled spices.

Huh, so they were alike in that way too. Interesting.

"Oh darling," Her mother downright purred and someone people in the surrounding crowd shuddered at the sound without realizing. "It just can't be helped that some women can't so much as find a clue without a man there to point it out but I've been doing just fine cher and I've got a beautiful little champion to prove it."

And it was true. Esper at the age of fourteen as of three days ago on May 23rd, had dozens of trophies and rewards to her name.

And why wouldn't she? She's been in gymnastics for years even when her past life was excluded and because she liked winning she even started entering fighting competitions.

Smiling beautifully as she brushed a strand of pale hair behind her ear, Esper watched the anger - and jealousy - brew on the artfully painted faces and liked it.

So what if she was a bit vindictive. Sue her.

"The first round of tryouts are today!" Esper crowed as she sat down at the lunch table and cast an excited glance around at the three other people there. "I'm gonna kill myself I'm so hype!"

Bella, of course looked up with a blank stare and promptly looked back down at her phone.

"Why are you like this?" The blonde asked and the brunette to the left of her favorite one snickered.

"Because you've said this for the tenth time in the past hour Esper." Sasha said with a warm smile that lit up her pretty brown face and the psychic gave her a pout.

"Why can't any of you guys just support me?"

"We do." Sasha's twin brother, Damian said with a droll tone as he read some suffering poet's book that he was only reading because he wanted to make fun of the author's manpain. "Honest."

"I agree." Bella mimicked and Esper sighed.

"The only one who cares about me is Sasha - right Ash?"

Brown eyes looked up from where they had been locked onto the bowl of rice and spiced meats that Esper made and "Ash" wiped her mouth clean.

"Guh?" She croaked out from behind a mouthful of Esper's lunch and said girl slowly faced forward.

"Lawless, the lot of you." She accused and with a shrug Bella leaned forward and took a spoonful as well.

"You know you all have the same food as me right?" Esper pointed out, staring pointedly at the three other Tupperware containers littering their lunch table.

"Yeah but yours taste better." Damian told her as he purposefully set his own Esper made lunch to the side and she lunged before the heathens could take another bite.

Yanking her own bowl into her lap she glared at the faces surrounding her.

"Mange quoi je fabriqué toi." She growled. "Ou mange rien!"

"Nous allons." Bella smirked. "Because now we have no choice."

"I've created a monster in you hells Bells." Esper lamented. "God forgive me."

"He wont."

"Damn Bella can't a bitch dream?"

And at that the twins laughed before the three of them launched into conversation and Esper took the chance to scarf down her lunch before her trio of sticky fingered friends demolished it for her.

Having met the twins a year or two ago in Luna's metaphysical workshop, they had become easy acquaintances and then easy friends but since they lived in a different school districts and the two of them travelled as much as Esper did, they never really hung out outside of the shop. But as fate would have it, the two of them ended up transferring when they started highschool and viola!

Two new friends.

As she thought Bella took a bit to gauge their personalities before she truly became comfortable but she was always friendly despite her misgivings instead of being that painfully awkward girl from the series that definitely shouldn't have had as many friends as she did because she obviously didn't care about them.

Ahem, but she digressed.

Her more or less fanon!Bella was better socially acclimated than canon!Bella and it showed.

Besides them all being friends meant their friend group had a theme.

With the twins also being gifted - Sasha had premonitions, Damian just knew things and together they could employ minor telekinesis (she was so jealous) - alongside Bella who was a psychic dampener and Esper who could see the past, they were literally a ghost hunting crew waiting to happen.

It was great.

(Still though...Telekinesis? Those assholes seriously lucked out in terms of potential.)

I'm back and dear god its it's been a long time I think? Like a couple of months?

But anyways, this was a bit of a slice of life chapter to show you more about Esper and her daily life and to introduce her two other friends! Who are also psychic lol. I plan for Sasha and Damian to have more major roles as the story rolls on so you'll see more of them.

I also wanted this chapter to highlight that Esper can be a bit of a Head Bitch In Charge mentality despite how nice and funny she is.

I put together the french sentences myself so french speakers tell me if they're wrong bc I'm trying to learn lol. What Esper says means "Eat what I made you or eat nothing" and Bella says "We will" in return.

I hope you guys like this chapter bc it was hard to get through for some reason.

Next one should have Jake visiting and more on the Cullens too.
