"Pacifica Northwest? She's a heartless bitch. All she cares about is herself…"

Pacifica laid in bed thinking about that statement. The statement was said earlier by someone she didn't know. She believed the girl was a year younger than she was. It was pure luck Pacifica had been walking by at the moment the girl said it.

The teenage girl turned in her bed. It was odd. She felt odd. She repeated the statement but something wasn't right. Something was off.

She didn't feel anything.

Weren't people supposed to get upset when something like this happened? Someone she did not know, made these assumptions about her but…

She didn't feel anything.

Pacifica sat up, stared into the darkness of her room, and realized she couldn't remember the last time she felt something.

She remembered winning the Miss Gravity Falls pageant last week. However, she couldn't recall how she felt after she had won. She remembered smiling for the camera but…

Pacifica got up and looked in her mirror. She saw herself in the darkness. She thought about her dog, the one that had died last year, the one that she spend weeks crying over. But not a single tear found its way to her eyes. She stepped back in disbelief.

Was something wrong with her? Why couldn't she…feel?

Winning was the only thing that gave her a rush. A short-lived rush. She remembered now; her name was called as winner of the pageant for a split second, she felt good. By the time she went up to receive her award, she felt nothing again.

She felt empty. Maybe it was because she was.

Emotions get in the way, she thought. Winning is what is most important and caring about other things get in the way…

Without noticing, the girl had gotten rid of her emotions over time. She had blocked out every sad, angry, caring feeling and replaced it with the desire for victory.

Pacifica felt like crying but couldn't…

She looked at herself and didn't see a human. She saw a robot. A thing.

She shook her head to rid herself of the thoughts and looked back at her reflection. She looked at the girl staring back at her and clenched her fists.

"Was it worth it?"
