Cutting Ties

There were few ties left to cut, for them
but she'd suddenly borne another one: a family
she didn't know, couldn't recall
and didn't have the time to learn again –

It wasn't fair to either of them to meet like this
but they'd. What was there to do now?
She hated it: the thought, the position,
the little bit of her that wasn't to be a child again

But she wasn't a child.
She wasn't even human
and that was why this tie, too
had to be cut.
