Leaving home had been a dream of Lucy's. Her overbearing parents had been kind, they had cared, but it had been too much when they denied her everything she wanted to do 'for her own safety.'

It had been annoying. She had felt trapped within their protection, and had wanted to be free to choose whatever she wanted to do.

That was when she had been offered the job in Taiwan. It had been the chance she had wanted to break free from their clutches. Their unnecessary worry over dangers that were not even there. Nothing ever happened.

Yet, they were right.

Her need for freedom, and lack of worry about her own safety had led her here. Lucy had known there was something wrong when Richard had first asked her to deliver that suitcase, and, if nothing else, she trusted her instinct. The unsettled feeling had only increased when Richard had forced the suitcase on her, attaching it to her arm with those metal handcuffs, half of which was still attached to her arm.

Lucy had never regretted not learning Mandarin as she had in that moment, with a gun to her forehead and an angry Chinese man staring at her. The moments it took for the man over the receiver to translate the man's words were nerve wracking. It felt like the man would give the order for them to kill her without her knowing, and the feeling only increased every time Lucy mistakenly caught the man's eye.

It was doubtful the man who was translating to his boss was trying too hard to convince the man otherwise, anyway. Not that Lucy would know for certain. Languages never had been her strong suit. In fact, nearly nothing had. She always remembered being little more than a pretty face, and that took a girl further than Lucy had expected. Lucy didn't know if it was the same for everyone else.

Stupid Richard had even gotten himself killed, so there would be no help from him, even though he had been the one to drag her into this mess. A mess he didn't know how to get out of, in the end. He was probably going to get both of them killed with his stupidity.

The blood on his face was terrifying, and he seemed to enjoy the sound of her begging voice even if he didn't seem to completely understand it. They had dragged her, unmercifully, into the room, forcing her to open the suitcase even as they behaved as if it carried a bomb.

Lucy was scared. Terrified.

Everything dissolved into black.
