Akashi was walking on the sidewalk when he spotted the familiar mop of raven hair on the other side of the road. He rushed towards the nearest pedestrian and lucky him that the moment he arrived, the light turned green. Going through the mass of people was a bit difficult, but he managed.
Hurrying after the girl, he called her name when he was a few feet away from her.
"Kagome!"
The figure stopped in their tracks before turning around to see who called their name. Pleasant surprise flashed in their eyes as the owner of those eyes gave him a warm smile.
The former Rakuzan captain felt warmth going through his body when he saw the smile. He returned the gesture, "Hi," he greeted. Internally, he was hitting himself. What the hell? Hi?
Kagome still had the warm smile pasted on her face, "Hey," she closed the distance as she grabbed his arm and moved themselves so they'll be out of the busybodies. "What's up?"
Akashi's thoughts came to a stop. What? He didn't know what to say. He was just happy to see her again that he really didn't think what he would say when he gets her attention. He often forgets that they weren't the same people when they separated almost a decade ago. He forgets that they aren't a couple anymore and he forgets that the woman in front of him has already moved on with her life while he was seemingly stuck in his.
"Seijuro?" Kagome's worried voice snapped him out of his thoughts and he gave her a small smile.
"I'm sorry. I got lost in my thoughts for a moment there," he assured her.
Kagome's worried frown got deeper, "That's not you."
"Well, things change," Akashi told her. Then he looked over her attire and hid an amused smile when he saw her wearing a black pencil skirt that was a couple inches above the knees and a navy blue feminine blouse that was tucked inside her skirt. A pair of brown gladiator-like sandals adorn her feet and her wild raven hair was up in a somewhat messy bun that perfectly frames her face. It amazes him that his ex girlfriend could be so feminine these days then again, things do change.
"I was wondering if you would like to get lunch with me," Akashi asked her. "If you're free from your hospital duties I mean," he added when he remembered her hectic and busy schedule as a resident doctor.
Kagome bit her lip and glanced at her wristwatch, "Hmm, well, I am not due until after lunch so I still have maybe an hour to spare so sure! Though is it okay if it's near the hospital just in case?"
"Whatever is convenient for you, Kagome." Akashi gave her a charming smile and he cheered inwardly when he saw the light blush dusting across her nose.
The resident beamed, "I know this hole-in-the-wall restaurant and they serve really delicious food and really cheap. Though I'm not sure someone like you would be caught dead eating in it," her tone teasing as she started leading the way.
The redhead narrowed his eyes playfully, humoring her, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"An heir to a huge business company eating at such a rundown place?" Kagome smirked.
"And what about yourself?"
Kagome scoffed, "Compare me to you, I'm a nobody."
"That's not true," Akashi retorted. "You're somebody to me," and my world.
The woman just rolled her eyes at him though it was fond and gestured for him to catch up.

"How's your foot by the way?" Kagome asked him when she sat down on their booth after ordering their food.
"It's fine," the basketball player answered her. "It still hurts when it's moved in a certain way."
The woman gained a deadpanned version then pointed a finger at him accusingly, "See? I told you that you should've just casted it instead of just wrapping it with an elastic bandage. Your ligament must not have healed properly and please tell me you went to your follow-up X-ray," she was wearing an exasperation expression, already having suspicions.
Akashi tilted his head up, in thought, "When was it again?"
"Seijuro!"
A soft chuckle wafted in the air and it did little to soothe the frazzled nerves of the raven before him, "I did, Kagome. My personal assistant made sure I went to my follow-up check up."
"Oh," Kagome said. "Is she pretty?" A curious tone was in her voice.
"He's adorable," Akashi grinned at her and it widened when he saw her face getting embarrassed at her quick assumption.
Kagome coughed to hide her embarrassment, "Well, just remember that you are still in probation for a couple of months. Meaning no running or playing sports ergo no basketball."
Akashi lightly scowled at being prohibited to play one of his stress relievers from the company. Not only basketball, but anything strenuous exercises which would no doubt sucked because exercises and sports are a big help to his stresses. However, he understood so he nodded in agreement.
It was silent for several minutes with Kagome scrolling through her phone with furrowed brows and Akashi observing the angel in front of him.
"How are you?" Akashi asked, his voice soft and curious. "How was America?"
Blue eyes peered up from dark lashes, "Fine. University life was tough in general, but I survived. America… Well, I met some interesting people that's for sure. You? What did I miss?"
"School took most of my time and as soon as I graduated, Father took me under his wing almost immediately. Even though I was named the heir for the company, he made me work to earn it and I'm glad for the experience even if there were times I was cursing his existence. What about you? Were you just focused on your studies?" Akashi was itching to ask one certain question, but he knew he had no right.
"Pretty much," Kagome leaned back on her seat. "I really didn't have time to socialize and whatnot. Pretty sure I would've lost my head if it wasn't for Akira-kun," she told him.
"Akira…?" The name was familiar and there was also a faint image coming to his memory connecting the name with its owner. "You mean the same Akira that used to serve us in your favorite restaurant?"
Kagome nodded as she took a sip of her water, "Un. He visited me actually during my stay in America. He and I, uh, used to date actually," she confessed to him.
He felt a sharp pang at her words, but he managed to let out a smile, "Really? But you guys are not together anymore?" Does she still have feelings for that guy?
She shook her head, "Iie. We broke up on my internship days. It was an amicable break-up. We just grew busy. He had his restaurant to manage and I have to tend my patients. It was good while it lasted. We're good friends until now actually."
"Was it short-term?" Did your relationship last longer than ours? He clenched his fists as he waited at her answer.
"Hmm, not exactly. We were together for 6 years. It wasn't easy that's for sure, but we managed," she informed then shook her head. "What about you? Did you and Misaka-san…?" she trailed off.
The redhead was silent for a moment before nodding, "We… Misaka and I tried to have a relationship a couple years after… It didn't work nor did it last long. Unlike yours."
"That's too bad," Kagome offered him a small, yet sad smile.
The food arrived at that moment and Kagome gave him a somewhat nervous smile, "I didn't know what kind of food that you like so I just ordered what I usually get." She gestured at the sizzling platter of meat laid before them.
"Meat?" Akashi asked in an amused tone, momentarily forgetting what he was feeling from what he recently learned.
"You know me," Kagome shrugged as she picked up her chopsticks. "I'm a carnivore," she grinned.
Akashi just chuckled and started digging in his food as well.
The rest of the meal passed by in silence. The two were just sitting around, trying to have a breather for a couple of minutes before they go back to their busy lives.
Glancing at her watch, she smiled apologetically, "I have to go. I don't want to be late. This was fun though."
"It was," he agreed. He was about to put some money on the table when Kagome shook her head.
"I already paid for it," she smiled. "Pay as you order," she pointed at the sign on the counter that he just noticed.
"You didn't tell me," Akashi narrowed his eyes. It's against his morals to let someone pay for his lunch when he was the one who instigated it.
Shaking her head with her smile still on place, Kagome said, "It's okay. It doesn't cost that much anyway. Besides it's the least that I can do. Anyway, I really have to go. Thank you, Seijuro." She waved goodbye, but before she can go further, the businessman took hold of her wrist.
"Kagome."
"Huh?" Kagome turned to him confused.
Akashi hesitated for a moment then, "Can we do this again?"
He saw her eyes go big for a second before stuttering out a reply, "Uh, s-sure! I would like that."
"Great," he then cleared his throat when he realized that he must've sound more eager. "I mean, that's good. I'll, uh, contact you and arrange for another…" he trailed off, unsure how to label it.
"Outing," Kagome continued for him. She was biting her lip almost nervously. She let out a quick airy chuckle. "So I'll see you around, I guess. Ja ne!"
When she was out of sight, Akashi released the breath he was unaware he was holding, "Is this even a good idea?" he asked himself.

Couple months passed and several outings later
"Flowers?" Momoi asked her friend. They happened to bump into each other and decided to just hang out for the rest of the day. "Is there someone new in your life, Aka-kun?"
"No."
"Roses?" Momoi stared at the bouquet that was being prepared by the florist. She knows only one person Akashi has gifted that kind of flower. Misaka didn't even receive roses from him in their relationship. Yes, he gave her flowers from daisies to sunflowers, but never roses. Roses are specifically for, "Kagome-chan? You guys are seeing each other again?"
Akashi froze at that before swallowing, "No."
"Stop lying. You only give roses to her," Momoi huffed.
Thanking the florist, the two walked out to the winter air, "We're not seeing each other."
"Then what's with the flowers?"
"Can't I give flowers to a friend?"
"Then where's mine?"
"…Shut up."
"Aka-kun," Momoi started softly.
Said man stopped in his tracks, "I know what you are gonna say so don't. I don't even know what I was thinking asking to see each other again. I'm stupid, I know, but…"
"You still love her," Momoi stepped closer to her friend and laid a comforting a hand on his arm.
"I never stopped."
"Then what are you gonna do? Especially in a week time, you'll—"
"Momoi…" the pink-haired woman was cut off at the serious tone of his voice. "Don't worry about it."
"Okay…"

Akashi smiled at the workers and other health team members he met on his way. They've come to know him after a couple of months of picking up a certain resident doctor for lunch or dinner and even bringing coffees or snacks for everyone.
He could hear a feminine sigh as he passed a couple of nurses, "Higurashi-sensei is so lucky to have someone like him. Look at those roses! They're gorgeous!" the nurse whispered to her friend.
Despite the nurse whispering, Akashi sweatdropped when he still heard it. His ears perked a bit though when he heard the response of the other nurse.
"Didn't you know, girl? There's another man vying for Higurashi-sensei's hand! He's actually there right now dropping off some food for her. AND he's handsome to boot too! Higurashi-sensei is so lucky to have two men fighting over her." She squealed
Akashi bit his tongue to stop the retort from spilling out of his mouth, but he was curious to see who was the other man. He turned to a corner when he suddenly stopped.
His heart stopped beating for a second before dropping down to his stomach with a very sharp pang. He clenched his fist and squeezed his eyes shut as if it would help to lessen the pain he's experiencing.
In front of him were Kagome, in her scrubs and looked like she just came out of an operation, talking to a tall man with pale skin, black hair that seemed to defy gravity and indigo eyes. Her cap was scrunched in one of her hands while her mask was hanging off her neck. Her hair was still in that messy bun he always seems to see these day. Her expression was painted with pure elation as she talked to the tall man before her.
She was laughing and it's all because of that man, not him.
He released a shaky breath as he took a step back. From the start, he knew it was a bad idea reconnecting with her, but the temptation was too great so he did. He took a risk and leapt off the cliff, hoping someone will catch him, but he guessed… that it was simply too late.
He turned around and walked away, leaving pieces of his broken heart on where he stood watching the love of his life love someone else.
"Please give this to Higurashi-sensei," he told one of the nurses in the nursing station. "I'm afraid I cannot give it to her personally as I have business to do," his smile was fake and he knew the male nurse can see it, but he just nodded and took the bouquet from his hands. With a nod of thanks, he left the hospital.
Is this what Kagome felt when she saw him with Misaka?
Because it really, really hurt.
~O*~O*~O*~O*~O*~O*
Akashi stared blankly at the centerpiece in front of him. Millions of thoughts running through his head, but not one registered in his mind.
"Seijuro?" a soft voice snapped him out of his musings and he looked up only for his red orbs to connect with smiling blue ones.
"Kagome," he stood up from his seat and pulled out the chair in front of him. He gestured for her to sit and she did so with no fuss. "How are you?"
"Tired as usual, but thank you for the dinner invite though," Kagome looked around the fancy restaurant, impressed, yet curious. "Is there something special going on?"
The redhead smiled, "No. I just wanted to treat you that's all."
"O-kaaayy," Kagome dragged on, but she nodded. "Well, shall we order?"
"Of course."
They ordered their food and still the silence between them was not broken even when they were done eating their food. The resident doctor was looking through the menu, contemplating what to order for dessert.
Akashi was just observing the woman in front of him. From her raven hair to her creamy complexion. Her dark lashes that grazes the top of her cheeks to her sapphire blue orbs that can turn fiery when someone triggers her temper and her cute button nose and her pink, pouty lips. She was always been beautiful to him even now.
"Do you still like chocolate?" Kagome asked him suddenly.
"Let's not meet each other again," Akashi said in lieu of a response.
"What?" Kagome uttered, baffled at the sudden change of topic. She put the menu to the side and gave the man before her her full attention.
Akashi blinked slowly, trying to formulate the words he wanted to say, "This was a bad idea from the start. You and me… Meeting each other time and time again. It was a horrible idea and I was stupid for suggesting it."
"What are you talking about?"
"I gave myself one night, tonight, to treat you one last time. To see you in this light. After this, I don't want to suffer anymore."
"Seijuro…"
"I love you, Kagome." He heard the sharp intake of breath, but he continued. "I still love you after all these years. I never stopped. I never let you go and that was a mistake because clearly you already let me go."
"Seijuro…"
"I cannot be just friends with you, Kagome. In the beginning, you were a woman to me and now, you're still a woman. In the future," he paused at his speech then looked at her straight in the eyes with a melancholic gaze, "you'll be my first love."
Akashi could see the tears welling up in her blue orbs and he could already feel the tears pricking the back of his eyes, but he held back despite the hurting in his heart, "When we meet, let's not greet each other nor should we ask how we are doing. Even if five years pass or ten or how long… Let's not smile and act as if we know each other. "
Silence.
"I will pay for the food and I'll be on my way. Thank you for the time you have spared, Higurashi-san." He sent her a sad smile before standing up from his seat, leaving the woman with her thoughts.
With every step he took, he felt his heart breaking, but he stood his ground.
No more.
No more Higurashi Kagome.

"So you're actually leaving, huh?" Aomine asked his former captain. He was with the rest of the Generation of Miracles plus Momoi as they accompanied the redhead to his flight to England.
"I really don't have a choice, Aomine," Akashi lightly shrugged. "Father wanted me to manage our branch there. It would be good practice before I take over the company."
"Where's Kagomecchi?" Kise mumbled and yelped in pain when the phantom elbowed his gut.
The rest saw their former captain stiffened and they sent glares to the sweating model.
"She has work," Akashi answered with a clipped tone.
Kise just nodded and bowed his head knowing full well how that topic is a sensitive one.
They all looked up when the announcement for Akashi's flight is due for boarding in a few minutes.
"I guess that's my cue. I will contact all of you once I landed," Akashi gave them his charming smile then with a wave he started going to the gate where his flight is assigned to.
Before he can five steps, he heard a familiar voice that still managed to make his heart skip a beat after all these years.
"Does that include me?"
Akashi slowly turned around, afraid that he was just hallucinating. Once he was fully turned, his friends were already parted to reveal Higurashi Kagome in a purple, floral, knee-length dress with her white doctor's coat over it. She was also wearing black heels and looked like she ran in those shoes by the wild state of her hair and flushed face.
"Kagome…?" Her name fell easily from his lips, forgetting that he was supposed to distance himself from her.
"You were gonna leave and you're not gonna say anything about it?" Kagome questioned angrily even when tears were already streaming down her face, ruining her make-up. "How could you? At least I had the decency to tell you I was gonna leave!"
"I thought it was for the best!" Akashi raised his voice as well, firmly ignoring the attention they are garnering from the other people. The Miracles plus Momoi were silent and was watching them.
"For whom? You or me?" Kagome jabbed a finger at his chest accusingly. Even if she barely reaches his shoulders, she was still terrifying.
"Kagome," Akashi sighed. He doesn't want to deal with this. Taking the handle of his suitcase, he was about to leave when Kagome spoke again, her voice soft unlike her earlier tone.
"I didn't get to say it back."
"What?" Akashi glanced at her over his shoulder, one brow hiking up at the confusion.
"I love you too, Seijuro," Kagome's voice was shaking at her tears. "I did move on with my life. Akira-kun helped me with that, but then I met you again and you invoked these feelings in me and…"
"And you what?" Akashi asked in a low voice.
"I miss you, Seijuro-kun."
The way she says "I miss you".
That was all it took for Akashi to release his bags and turned to her. He grabbed hold of her arm and pulled her in, his lips quickly descending over hers, capturing them with his.
He could vaguely hear Momoi erupting in squeals, but that didn't matter. What matters is the woman in front of him.
Breaking the kiss, he held her face between his hands and smiled, "I missed you too," he said before enveloping her in an embrace again.
And the way he misses her.
They stayed in their embrace for a long while before they heard the announcement for Akashi's flight. It was time to board.
Kissing her on the forehead, he vowed, "I'll be back, okay? Wait for me."
Kagome laughed, tears slipping down her cheeks while she nodded in agreement, "I will. I love you, Seijuro."
"I love you too, Kagome."
With one last smile and a kiss, he went on his way. His whole body especially his heart was light. Lighter than he ever felt since years ago and he knew the reason why.
It was because of her.

Dom: So yeah, it's a happy ending. Are you guys happy that finally found out what happened to them? Then again I could always kill Akashi by typing a plane crash… Huh.
Miroku: TAKE AWAY HER LAPTOP!
Dom: Mou, you guys are not fun. I was just kidding. Anyway, I decided to just post this earlier than planned bc I have completion duty for DR since I'm still not done with my scores and my shift is 11pm – 7am so I am probably asleep on the 26th and unable to finish this so yeah. Better that I finish this earlier. Anyhoo, we have like two more chapters before this collection ends so, yeah. The end is near *cries a bit* HOPE YOU GUYS ENJOYED!
