Though I am actually the one who wrote this drabble down, I don't know if I can really call it mine. I just imagined it inside my mind while I was reading the end of Shikamaru Hiden again, and I was crying, and I just typed what came to my mind.

Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH to Cacatua for her translation of Shikamaru Hiden (and also Konoha and Gaara Hidens). This first part is an excerpt from Shikamaru Hiden, it's NOT my writing, and it is identified by *** […] ***. It was copied and pasted here only to situate you on the timing. That being said, it does have a spoiler on Shikamaru Hiden, if you haven't read yet, I highly recommend you to – it is amazing, if you like Shikamaru, you will love it.

He looks a lot like me, doesn't he?

Our son had only just been born, but he was crying like he'd already seen through everything the world had to offer.

"It's alright." I told him. "One day, you're going to realise you don't know everything as well as you think. And when that time comes, you'll have definitely made comrades who will walk side by side with you."

The baby couldn't have understood a word, but he still stared up at me with wide eyes. Those eyes of his looked just like his mother's, all long slit and almond shaped.

"I really can't say anything's troublesome from now on, huh…" I said.

"You can say it a little." Temari told me. "If it ever looks like you're getting so bad that you'll stop functioning, then I'll intervene and send you flying back to your senses again. So, it's okay."

"Aa, you're right. Then…"

What are we going to name him?

"How troublesome."

"We did it…" Temari said, very lowly.

"Yeah… We are parents…"

She faintly giggled, still looking lovingly to our son. She seemed so peaceful and happy, and I can't help myself but to wish this will never change. She then looks at me, and seeing those two pairs of almond eyes, I am sure that I have found the most valuable thing in the world.

"Thank you" Her words are barely audible. "We did it... This is our next era…" Her eyes slowly turned back to our son, and so did mine. "…I am holding it… Our jidai…"

Our newly born son was no longer crying, just staring at us, as if he could sense how important this moment was.

"Our next generation… The one who will inherited from us…"

Her smile was directed towards me, so full of emotions as I was myself.

"Thank you for let me being part of this."

"No. Thank you! I wouldn't be a man who would be able to let something behind to this era if it wasn't for you…"

"… Well, I can see that… But you got yourself your own credit for it."

...

The silence that lasted wasn't uncomfortable. As it was usual between both of us. But this one was different. It was heavy on something bigger. I couldn't let myself to try and name it. Words were not enough.

...

"It would be a good name… If you agree with it"

"What would?"

"Dai. Shikadai."

"… Shikadai…"

How do you like it, kid?

Well, just to make it a little clearer:

Jidai means era/generation. The root of the word is dai, and ji is added to indicate timeline.

Shikamaru is often talking about the next generarion (jidai), and Temari databook states that she sees in Shikamaru a disposition that can become the foundation of the next era (jidai).
