This story is so old. This was updated in 2016. I know it's been a long time and I usually read my stories to see which one I will update. I want to update the chapters, but I can't because it shows how far I've improved (somewhat) as a writer. Maybe one day I might, but not now.

I've decided to pursue a career in English and screenwriting. I want to improve the way I write and I figured getting a degree in English will help me tremendously.

Thank you for sticking by my side.

One day you'll see my work on tv and I'll make sure to shoutout Fanfiction and my reviewers!

Chapter Nine: Summer Break Pt. 1

Naruto rolled on his side and gazed at the morning sky. This was officially the last day of classes before summer break started. Mikoto, Sasuke's mother, invited him to visit the countryside with Sasuke and her.

Tsunade quickly agreed to the offer as she knew Naruto needed to get out more and enjoy his youthful days while they last, and besides she would be busy would board meetings and the school administrators and find a way for them to reject the proposal of shutting down the school.

He didn't want to argue with her, although he wanted to make plans with Hinata this summer, it seemed faith was cruel because the girl had been absent from school for an entire week and he misplaced his phone a week ago.

He wanted to ask Kiba where the girl was, but his pride wouldn't let him.

"Naru-chan, I hope you're getting ready in there," Tsunade called out from behind the door.

He mumbled a few words before rolling off the bed. "I'm getting ready now!"

After he was done getting ready, he jogged downstairs and saw Tsunade going over some documents.

"Baa-chan," He started. Tsunade glanced at her and her left eyebrow slightly rose. "You know I usually don't ask you for things, but I kind of misplaced my phone and I need a new one." He laughed nervously.

"And when were you going to tell me this?"

He scratched his left cheek and looked the other way. "If I had the money I would have gotten me a new one, but I'm broke." He deadpanned. "I'll be careful next time."

Tsunade rampaged through her purse before handing him some cash. "I'm only giving you this because I need to know that you're safe when you go with Sasuke and Mikoto tomorrow."

Naruto took the money from her and grinned. "You're the best baa-chan. I'll be responsible. I swear."

Tsunade smiled softly. Naruto turned his back and was about to head back upstairs when Tsunade called out to him. "Naruto."

He glanced over his shoulder because it was unusual for the woman to call him by his name unless he had done something to get underneath her skin. "Did I do something wrong?" He looked down at her hand that was outstretched to him. "What is it?" He looked at the piece of squared paper she had in her hand then at her.

"It's yours. Cherish it. Take care of it."

Naruto took the object from her hand gently and stared at the blank paper. He turned it around slowly and he saw two people holding one another. The man in the picture looked young. He had spikey blonde hair and a pretty boy face. He was smiling ear to ear as he had his arms wrapped around a younger woman. His eyes widened as the woman had red firey hair. It reminded him of Karin's hair, but it was so long and pretty. "Beautiful." Was the word that slipped out of his mouth.

He looked up at Tsunade strangely as he did not know these people. Tsunade kept smiling at him, and he looked back at the photo. His eyes darted back and forth at the people. The man had deep blue eyes that reminded him of his and the blonde hair. He couldn't help but touched his hair on impulse. And the woman had a slender face and figured that oddly reminded him of his when he was a little younger. He remembered being teased for looking like a girl.

"Naruto, they are your-

"Is this my mom and dad?" Naruto said softly.

Tsunade nodded. "Kushina Uzumaki is your mother's name, and Minato Namikaze is your father's name."

Naruto stared at the photo and it trembled slightly under his touch. "Thank you. I'll be right back." He darted upstairs to his room and took out a picture frame from his draw. He placed the photo in the frame and stared at it for a good while. "Kaa-san has red hair." He chuckled. "I looked so much like her during middle school."

Tsunade became worried when several minutes had gone by and Naruto was still upstairs. She was hesitant with giving him the photo, but it was the least she could do for holding onto it for so long.

As she was about to go upstairs to check on him, he ran down. "Sorry for taking so long." He rubbed the back of his head. "Ready?"

Tsunade took one more glanced at him before she nodded. "Let's go."

Sasuke and Naruto were the school's latest topic. The two were spotted walking, eating, and hanging out together. Everyone knew that Sasuke and Naruto were best friends prior to highschool, but nobody knew the real reason the two had stopped speaking to one another.

Somewhere still skeptical about Naruto and his ways. Somebody like that couldn't change overnight and the students were still on their toes about him.

There was a rumor going around that the boy was a bully, but they had never seen it for themselves. He kept to himself. But his eyes, the way he spoke to others, his arura made them want to stay away from him.

Karin caught wind of that; especially when he said something hurtful to her. She knew she could be a lot of things: selfish, self-absorbed, a trouble maker. But spending those days with Naruto made her feel something, to say the least. He didn't look down at her, he listened to her and despite the rumors that did flood around about him, it didn't seem to be his nature. And he never once told anyone about the incident in the park.

She was disappointed and still crush by the comment. However, he seems different. She figured it was because of Hinata as she remembered that day she had saw the two texting.

.

.

.

"Ne, Naruto! Take it out." Karin whined.

"Keep still." He said, placing his hand on her chin. He leaned over and blew into her watery eye. "Did it come out?" he asked.

She nodded her head as she rubbed her eye.

"Stop rubbing before it turns really red." He scoffed. He took out his phone and smiled slightly. He read the text message Hinata had sent him. He didn't hear his phone ring. He could imagine the girl feeling sad. She probably thought he didn't want to speak to her, which was slightly true on his part.

Naruto: Sorry. I didn't hear my phone ring. That's good to hear. Are u heading home? 5:20p.m.

"Who are you texting?" Karin asked as she went under Naruto's arm. She stared down at the phone, which he didn't even bother to hide it. Her eyes lit up. "So you're texting Hyuga?" he questioned.

"Why are you so nosey?" he said.

.

.

.

She remembered the look in his eyes. The way his lips tugged upwards into a smile and she doubted he knew what he was doing.

The two were probably cousins anyway because she's an Uzumaki. But still…

Her eyes lingered to Naruto in the corner who was talking to Sasuke. Sasuke was her first crush and the two used to talk from time to time in middle school, but she didn't know what happened and he'd cut her off completely.

"I'm no good with men, huh?" She thought.

"Hinata-chan didn't come to school again?" Sasuke asked Naruto who seemed to be spaced out.

He nodded. "I'm a little worry, but that jerk Kiba doesn't seem to worry so I guess she's okay."

The day went by and Hinata still did not show up, and alas Hinata did not show up. Naruto swallowed everything he built up and approached Kiba who was packing up.

"Is Hinata-chan okay?"

Kiba ears wiggled by the familiar voice and he glanced over his shoulder. He scoffed once noticing who it was. "She actually told me she hates you and doesn't know why she ever befriended you. If I was you I would forget about Hinata-chan." He grinned. He threw the bag over his shoulder and left Naruto before he had a chance to tell him off.

Naruto balled his fist and as he was about to turn to leave, Shino called out to him. "She's okay, and don't worry too much about Kiba."

Shino turned on his heels and left the young blonde teen.

Early morning came, and Naruto had just finished packing his bags. Tsunade wished him a safe trip before she left to prepare a presentation and he was all alone. Naruto spent the entire night figuring how he was able to get Hinata's phone number, or hell even Hanabi's phone number so he could contact the girl.

The doorbell rang and Naruto grabbed his bags and headed downstairs. "I'm coming. I'm coming." He shouted.

"You ready?"

Naruto stepped outside and closed the door behind him. "I know it was you who told Mikoto to ask Baa-chan for me to come." He whispered to Sasuke as they were walking to the car.

"There was no way in hell I'm going on this trip by myself," Sasuke whispered back.

Before Naruto could speak, Mikoto smiled brightly. "I'm so glad you're coming along, Naru-chan. It's been so long since we've spent time like this, huh?"

"Yes, ma'am." Naruto grinned. "Shall we get going?"

The trip was quiet and long. Naruto stared out the window and watched as the many buildings of Konoha transitioned to trees. They were now outside of Konoha and heading towards the countryside.

"It's going to be so much fun." Mikoto chattered. "There's a strawberry field, a lake, oh and they even have a festival." She couldn't help but smile. "Ah, I can't wait. It's going to be so much fun."

The two teens listened as the woman went on and on, and Sasuke was surprised because his mother had never spoken this much. He knew she was doing a lot of work- although she and he were set for life- he figured she worked a lot to keep her mind off of the incident.

They entered the country-side and it was the complete opposite of Konoha. The car shook as it rode on the dirtied road. Naruto eyes lingered out the window and were amazed. They were surrounded by mountains and green grassy fields. There was a beautiful lake and he saw children jumping into it.

The car stopped in front of a small traditional Japanese wooden house. "We'll be staying here," Mikoto said. She got out of the car and did a few stretches.

Naruto and Sasuke both left the car and stared at the house and then one another.

"Did you bring your game?"

Sasuke opened his mouth to say something, but he closed it and hanged his head in shame. "I forgot."

"It's going to be a long week, huh?" Naruto responded.

Sasuke nodded.

"What are you guys waiting for? Go on and do some exploring." Mikoto said pushing them along the dirted road. "I'll start cooking." She ushered them away and waited on the side of the road until they were out of sight.

Naruto pulled some leaves from a tree and threw them on the floor. The air was completely different from Konoha and it smelt a lot fresher. The sun shone more on this side of the country and little clouds floated by and would cover the sun for a second or so.

"Have you ever been here?"

"No. Kaa-san changes where we go every summer," Sasuke mumbled.

They walked over a wooden bridge and stared down at the ponds underneath. There were some koi fishes that swam by and yellow petals floating along the water.

"Are you still upset you didn't get to see Hinata-chan?" Sasuke questioned.

Naruto leaned closer to the water and sighed once he saw his reflection. "I suppose. I really wanted to hang out with her." He grimaced. "What if she doesn't like me?"

'You really are an idiot.' Sasuke thought. "There's only one way to find out."

Some kids were running up and down on the bridge and Sasuke was getting annoyed because one of them stepped on his foot and didn't apologize.

"Naruto let's go," Sasuke said.

His eyes widened as he saw the biggest koi fish he had ever seen. "Sasuke look at how fat that one is." He said pointing to it. He placed his foot on the bridge fence and leaned closer than before to catch a better view.

"Naruto, I don't think that's a good idea."

"I know, but I just want to see it a little closer."

The kids ran past another time, and Naruto's eyes bulge out of his eye sockets when he felt someone bumped into him. He grabbed onto the nearest thing, which was Sasuke, but to no avail, he fell over along with Sasuke in the pond.

The two sat there and the koi fishes scattered around them. Naruto slicked his blonde bangs back and stared at Sasuke and smiled nervously. He punched Naruto on the top of his head and marched home angrily.

"It wasn't my fault," Naruto said.

"Well, I told you not to lean over like that. You could be such a child." Sasuke said as he ate some rice.

They were eating the dinner Mikoto cooked for them.

"Now, Naru-chan. You need to be careful." She scolded him.

Naruto lowered his head and he muttered, "Yes ma'am."

Night came and Naruto gazed at the starry sky. He had recently spoken to Tsunade on the phone and was surprised the woman wasn't drunk. 'She really wants to change, huh?'

Then he wondered if other people saw him differently, or did they see him as the same cold ice prince?

He was restless and couldn't get any sleep. He really wanted to spend the summer break with Hinata. The dreams he had still exist, he started to daydream and even practice how he was going to confess to her.

Naruto shot up. "I have to confess? I've never really heard of a guy confessing to a girl before." He groaned loudly as he placed his on the pillow and rolled on his side. 'They make it look so easy in movies.'

Sleep came an hour later and his dreams were consumed with the disappointment of not meeting Hinata.

The birds chirped in the distance and the sun made its way in the wooden house. Sasuke was already up and eating breakfast his mother left for them. When he had woken he saw a note on the doorpost saying she would be out all day with the other parents who came to visit.

Naruto yawned as he sat down on a red cushioned zabuton. (A zabuton is a Japanese cushion for sitting.) He placed the wooden chopsticks between his finger and ate some rice.

"What?" Naruto said once he noticed Sasuke staring at him.

"Did we sleep together?"

He frowned. "Sasuke, I know you always harbored feelings for me b-

"Dobe! Where are your manners? Good morning to you too." Sasuke replied. His right eye twitched when he saw Naruto's lips turned upward.

"Ah, I'm sorry. Good morning my beautiful and handsome friend."

"Shut up!" Sasuke barked.

Naruto looked around and noticed Mikoto was missing. "Where is your mom?"

"Apparently she went out with the other parents visiting."

The house was eerily quiet which Naruto had come accustom to while living with Tsunade. There wasn't really anyone his age to play with so the house wasn't as noisy except when the two argued back and forth.

Sasuke wore his blue shorts and a white t-shirt as he sat on the porch. He had a miniature fan in his hand and fanned himself because it was so hot. Naruto was beside him, laying on his stomach while a miniature fan blew cold air in his face.

"Ugh! It's so boring." He complained. "Teme, what are we supposed to do?

Sasuke sighed. He hated to admit it, but Naruto was right. It was boring and hot.

"Wasn't there a pond here? It's really hot so let's go check it out?" He suggested.

Naruto turned off the fan and got up. "Let me put on my pants."

"Wait you weren't wearing pants!" Sasuke turned his head to face Naruto.

"Wow!" He chuckled. "You were really eager to look at me without any pants." Naruto laughed. He did a few poses in his orange shorts. "Ow!" He held his face when Sasuke threw a small pebble at him.

He grumbled a few swear words as he made his way out of the wooden house.

The two teens walked down the road and were greeted by some of the country's people. As they were walking down the road, they saw an older woman trying to pick up some fruits that had fallen from the bag she was carrying.

Naruto and Sasuke rushed over to her and helped her pick up the stuff.

"Are you okay?" asked Naruto.

The older woman gazed at the older teens and smiled cheekily. "I'm fine. Thank you for your help."

Sasuke hummed when he hinted the woman's eyes.

They had picked up the fruits and placed them in the bag. "Where are you heading, baa-baa? We'll help you." Naruto said.

"Awe, you two are so adorable and strong." The older hunched-back woman said.

"Thank you." Naruto smiled.

"Thank you," Sasuke mumbled.

"If-

"Baa-baa!"

The familiar voice made Sasuke and Naruto glanced over the shoulders. Naruto's eyes widened and he felt his heart do a backflip. It was Hinata approaching them. Naruto couldn't help but gawk at the beautiful creature approaching them.

Her hair was braided into two long ponytails, and a straw hat sat on the top of her head and wore a summer floral dress.

"Baa-baa, I've been looking everywhere for you." She stepped to the woman. She let out a sigh of relief and hugged the woman.

"Now, now Hinata-chan. I was just telling these two young boys how adorable and strong they were."

Hinata, who was concerned about the safety of her grandmother, was unaware of the two strangers standing there.

"I'm so-

Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Na-Naruto-kun." She couldn't contain her excitement and she gave the teen a big hug.

Naruto swallowed the lump in his throat and returned the hug. "Hinata-chan! You've been here?"

She let go of the boy and nodded her head. "One week before school closes for summer we come down here to visit my grandmother."

Naruto took note of the woman's eyes and nodded. "I should have guessed."

"I've been trying to text you because I wanted to hang out with you when I got back." She mumbled.

Narutos heart skipped a beat because Hinata also wanted to spend her summer with him. "My phone… I actually misplaced it a week after you stopped coming."

Baa-baa led the way to her house, while Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata followed behind. "I was really concerned about you." Naruto pouted.

Hinata looked down and poked her fingers together. "Me too. I- i- I thought you didn't want to speak to me anymore."

"No!" This startled both Sasuke and Hinata. "Sorry. I enjoy your company."

This made Hinata happy as she couldn't stop herself from smiling. They finally made it to Baa-baa house. They placed the bags on top of the counter.

"Hinata-chan, why don't you bring them to the back while I cut up some watermelons for all of you."

"Hai."

Hinata led the two boys to the patio and they sighed in relief. It was much cooler than the place they were staying at and there were more trees surrounding the area to cover the sun.

"Where's Hanabi?" Naruto asked.

"She's with Konohamaru at the Kyoshi lake. I was supposed to meet them there, but I couldn't let Baa-baa go to the market by herself." She sat down next to Naruto.

"How did you lose her?" Sasuke inquired.

"Don't let her physical appearance surprise you. She's actually quite fast and strong." Hinata replied.

Naruto took out his phone. "Hinata, baa-chan gave me some money to get a new phone. Can I have your phone number again?"

Hinata nodded as she also took her phone out and the two shared their data.

"Here you go," Baa-baa said. She placed a plate of watermelon between them and went back inside.

"Thank you!" Both Sasuke and Naruto called out.

The trio grabbed a slice of watermelon and began to eat it.

"Do you mind if we tag along?" Sasuke asked. "It's really hot."

"The more the merrier." Hinata gently clasped her hands.

"Baa-baa, we'll be going to the Kyoshi lake with Konohamaru and Hanabi-chan."

"Please take care of those two, Hinata-chan," Baa-baa said.

Hinata nodded in determination. "I will."

The trio walked alongside one another until they reached a grassy field that had a sign:

Kyoshi Lake

They heard some children laughing in the distance and was surprised to see so many kids and teens out there.

Naruto and Sasuke walked behind Hinata as she looked for Hanabi and Konohamaru.

"Hinata-chan!" Hanabi called out when she spotted her sister.

Hinata waved at them. Hanabi's eyes widened when she saw Naruto.

"Naruto-kun!" Hanabi called to him. She ran towards him and gave him a big hug. "I thought you were ignoring us." She frowned. "You had Hinata-chan sad ya know? She didn't even eat because of how sad she was and-

Hinata's face reddened as Hanabi told Naruto how sad and lonely she was and thought Naruto had hated her.

"And she thought you hated her."

"Hanabi-chan, I believe Konohamaru is calling you."

"Ah, who is this" Hanabi said, approaching Sasuke who looked uninterested in everything.

"I'm Hanabi. You are?"

"Tch? Sasuke."

Hanabi felt her heart skip a beat. The raven hair boy looked so cool and handsome that she couldn't keep her eyes off of him.

Hanabi wasn't the only one feeling that way as the other teens who were there stopped what they were doing to gawk at the good-looking raven hair teen.

Konohamaru greeted Naruto but glared at Sasuke because he saw how Hanabi was acting. Sasuke saw the look Konohamary gave him and he smirked. The girls at the lake squealed in delight when they saw that and the hearts in their eyes grew bigger and bigger.

"Leave it to Sasuke to make a lasting impression, huh?" Naruto rubbed the back of his head. "But why didn't you come over?"

Hinata glanced back at Naruto and moved her foot along the grass. "I thought you didn't want to see me anymore and I didn't want to be rude and show up at your house uninvited." She mumbled.

"I could never hate you, Hinata-chan. Not in a million years." He told her. "You're so kind and even when I was being mean to you, your kindness still shined through my darkness."

Hinata couldn't help but feel giddy inside. "I'm glad that it's all cleared up. Let's have fun."

Her smile was radiant and could put the stars to shame. Was she beautiful? No. Beautiful wasn't a word that could describe Hinata at this very moment to Naruto. But she did something to him that made him quiver in delight and he wanted nothing more than to bask in her light.

The group was back at Baa-baa house. Naruto and Sasuke had walked with the trio home. A nice gentle breeze swooped in and Hinata shivered slightly.

"Let's hang out tomorrow, Naruto-kun."

Naruto nodded his head. "I'll text you tonight."

"I'll be waiting." She whispered.

She watched as Sasuke and Naruto walked down the road and she sighed.

"How long are you going to wait to tell him?" Hanabi asked.

Hinata blushed. She still wasn't used to talking to Hanabi about these kinds of things. "I don't know."

"What if he falls for somebody else because you waited too long?"

Hinata felt her spirit crushed.

"Hanabi-chan." Konohamaru scolded her.

"What? It's the truth, isn't it?"

Konohamaru shook his head and placed his hand on his forehead. "You can be really insensitive at times. Why'd you have to ruin the mood?"

"She's right," Hinata said staring at her naked feet. "But- but I'm afraid." She stared at them with teary eyes. Gosh, she felt helpless because it was something she thought about countless times. What if he falls for somebody or… "What if I ruin our friendship because of my selfish desires?" She spoke out loud. "I don't want to ruin what we have." She held her chest. "B-but I don't want to continue like this."

The months she spent with him, being next to him and being a friend was something she'd pray for. She had finally gotten close to her crush Uzumaki Naruto, yet she didn't feel complete.

But wasn't it better to remain quiet and watch from the sidelines, waiting? Hoping? Then she thought about Kiba.

.

.

.

"Hinata-chan," Kiba said startling the girl with his deep voice.

"Yes?" she said tilting her head to the side.

"I want to tell you that-

"He's really nice. I wish you two can be friends too." She said.

"Hinata…"

"I wish everyone in the class can be friends with one another instead of talking about each other. That would make us a better class." She said rocking back and forth.

"Hinata-chan, please," Kiba said, his chocolate eyes looked rough. "I need to tell you."

She looked up at the sky once more. "Ne, Kiba-kun I think it's best that you don't tell me." She said rubbing her hands together.

Kiba looked at her shockingly. His eyes saddened. He licked his dry lips. "I've been holding it in for a while… and I need to tell you." He said, almost pleaded. "I just need to know."

Hinata avoided eye contact with him. "Kiba-kun please don't say it.."

"Hinata-chan I li-

"Kiba-kun!" She said staring sharply at him in his eyes. He closed his mouth. "Please don't say it because one of us will only hurt more than the other." She said picking up her backpack. "I'm going to go home now." She said bowing.

.

.

.

She knew Kiba had feelings for her because she had overheard the conversation he had with Shino a year ago. Kiba was like a brother to her and she didn't want to lose him. She knew she could still be friends with him even after she rejected him, but could he?

She didn't want to find out. She didn't want to lose him. She couldn't let him say the words he desperately wanted to say.

It was better this way, right?

Unspoken love.

It was dark in the wooden house and the only light that shined was coming from a cell phone screen. His blue eyes stared at the words on the screen and he let out a troublesome sigh.

Unspoken love

Quiet Love

The love that's never heard

The love that's never said out loud

The love that blooms within a heart
