Chapter 34: Epilogue
EPOV
As I stand here, waiting on pins and needles, for the procession to begin, I can't help thinking of how we got here and where we can go.
From the first night in the clearing, I haven't been able to stop thinking of her beautiful eyes, her perfect smile, how she made me see things from a different perspective; her pain and how she grew from it, and that it all made her stronger than anyone I know. Since the engagement, Bella had decided she wanted to do more with her life than work in a bar.
Her nightmares – and mine – involving that night nearly a year and a half ago have disappeared. Her therapist mentioned that there's no normal when it comes to these kinds of things. She might notice something small, like a smell or a phrase, or big, like a bar fight, that might be a trigger for a nightmare; or she might not make a connection at all. The therapist was only preparing us for possibilities, and we knew how to deal with them if they made another appearance. She was doing well, but did have a single, bad night at the one-year mark. But since then, nothing.
So, the decision to leave the bar wasn't because of a potential trigger, but because of a better opportunity. The owners of the Forks Library are retiring and wishing to relinquish the property to someone who will take care of it but make it livelier. When the news broke, just two weeks after that therapy session, we contacted them. They agreed to hold on to the property so Bella could get her business degree in order to take over.
The sounds of the music increase and my focus comes back to the present. Alice makes her way down the aisle with Jasper as her escort, followed by Rose and Ben, then Angela as the Matron of Honor and Emmett as Best Man. As our guests stand, I take a deep breath and steel myself for her to come into view. Finally, as the music changes, she steps out and walks gracefully toward me. No one walks with her, but I know she feels her mom and dad right next to her in spirit.
The ceremony goes off without a hitch and while I remember everything, it still feels like a blur when the pastor says, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Edward, you may kiss your bride."
Finally, we are one…with another addition to be had in eight, short months. But we'll tell the family later.
The End
A/N: And there you have it! Heaven Knows has come to an end and is now complete. Happy New Year!
Side note: I had written this chapter, then got stuck. Then I deleted and rewrote it two more times. This originally wasn't going to be the last chapter, but I just couldn't make the original plan work right. *shrugs*
