"AU Shuffle" Prompt #2

Ken groaned, reaching for his vibrating cell phone, checking the time before answering it. "What the hell, Hide?"

"Hey, uh...what's up?" His voice was shaky, as though he was nervous about something.

"Nothing much, just trying to sleep through the night, the usual," Ken replied, rolling over in bed.

"Oh, that's cool, that's cool." There was a soft sound on Hideyoshi's side of the phone. "So, uh, I might have made a mistake."

"What's new?" Ken muttered under his breath. "What did you do?"

"I may have accidentally sort of adopted five cats."

A moment of silence passed between them.

"...Hide, what the fuck? You called me at three in the goddamn morning to tell me you adopted animals?"

"Not just any animals, Kaneki! Cats!"

"They're assholes, Hide."

The blond scoffed over the phone. "Not if you treat them right. Wanna come over and see them? They're so cute!"

"No."

"Aw, why not?"

"Because it's three-oh-two in the morning and I'm tired, goodnight." And Ken hung up the phone, rolling over and falling back asleep, the thought of Hideyoshi trying to wrangle five cats running through his mind.

AU Prompt: "I may have accidentally sort of adopted five cats."

I'm starting a new thing where I pick an AU from my notebook of AUs and a fandom that I'm in (or have been in) and writing a fanfic for them. Ratings will range, and each fic will be its own. I call it AU Shuffle.
