A/N: I do not own InuYasha.

Miroku was baffled. He had expected a slap to the face, but instead Sango had seized his hand and laced her fingers through his. The only times he had ever held a woman's hand was when he had read their palms or asked them to bear his children. He had never held a woman's hand out of affection. As long as he had known Sango, she had rarely allowed him to touch her. In all those cases, he had done little more than wrap an arm around her and let her rest her head on his shoulder. She was not the sort to indulge in public displays of affection. It seemed today he would be proven wrong.

He did not know how to react at first. It was not as though he had not touched a woman in the past, but this was a new sensation to him. He looked down at their hands out of the corner of his eye. He had not returned the gesture, but he didn't pull away. Still awestruck, he glanced at her face to see what her expression was. Sango's eyes were hidden by her bangs, but he noticed a pretty blush coloring her cheeks. She was biting her lip and avoiding his gaze.

Miroku smiled to himself. It pleased him immensely to know that he was the cause of her blush. Encouraged by her boldness, he curled his fingers around her hand and gave it a squeeze.

Sango gasped. Glancing up at Miroku, she saw that he was smiling.

00000000

InuYasha stared at his friends in disbelief. He had seen what the monk had been about to do and flattened his ears against his head in anticipation of the resounding smack that would inevitably follow the action. He blinked to make sure his eyes were not deceiving him.

It was true. Sango and Miroku were actually holding hands.

He glanced over at Kagome. She was smiling from ear to ear. He could see Shippo smirking at the pair from where he was perched on Kagome's shoulder.

His eyes moved to her hand hanging freely at her side. Unbidden, his fingers twitched with a sudden desire to take hold of it.

He managed to look away just in time as Kagome turned her head to look at him. He looked straight ahead and hoped she wouldn't notice him blushing.

"Something wrong, InuYasha?" she asked.

"N-nothing!" InuYasha said as he turned his head in the opposite direction of her and stuffed his hands in his sleeves. His blush deepened.

He felt Shippo land on his shoulder.

"I saw that," Shippo whispered in his ear.

"Shut up!"

A/N: This fic is based on head canon of mine in which after Miroku and Sango promise to live together after they defeat Naraku, Sango will sometimes hold Miroku's hand whenever he tries to feel her up.
