A/N: Hi people of the Densi fandom! It's been a while since I wrote a Densi fic (and honestly I've only written like two in my life), but I have decided that it's impossible to not write about these two glorious idiots soooo...
Disclaimer: Okay, this might come as a surprise for you, but I actually don't own NCIS: LA or any of it's characters.. (I know! Weird, right?)
Summary: "Boundaries, Deeks." "That's funny, I mean seeing as there really is a boundary line between us right now." Speculative tag to 7x09 "Internal Affairs". Densi.
A little more than a drabble, a little less than an actual (typical) one-shot, so let's call it a mini-fic, shall we?
Anyway, please enjoy! :D
"Kensi," Deeks exclaimed as she walked into the room and straight toward him.
"Deeks," she acknowledged with a nod.
She moved her arms behind her back, trying hard, so hard, to keep herself from reaching out to him, touching him.
"I need you to tell me what happened," she said, trying to make her voice sound stern.
His reply was quick, too quick, "I don't know."
She felt like laughing and crying at the same time, but instead she just shook her head, her lips pressed together tightly.
"Kens," he whispered, bringing his face closer to the bars, his eyes boring into hers until she adverted her gaze.
"Kensi, please, I just," his voice broke as he stretched his hand out through the bars.
She took a step backwards, her arms still behind her back, out of his reach.
"Boundaries, Deeks," she pointed out, her voice surprisingly even.
"That's funny," he scratched the back of his head, avoiding her gaze, "I mean seeing as there really is a boundary line between us right now."
She glared at him, obviously not amused by his poor attempt at joking about the situation. Now wasn't the time to joke. Especially not about him being behind bars. She'd be lying if she said it hadn't crossed her mind that at some point during this completely messed up Internal Affairs investigation, LAPD would go as far as to arrest him. But still, that hopelessly in love and absolutely non-professional part of her had always tried to believe that it wouldn't happen. And even now, standing in front of him, the bars separating them, she still couldn't quite wrap her head around it.
"It's not just the bars that are between us right now," she said sadly.
He looked at her then, confusion written all over his face.
She was barely able to restrain herself from throwing her hands up in frustration, "The lies, Deeks."
He bit his lip, "I'm sorry."
She smiled at him sadly, and he swore he could see tears glistening in her eyes. "Yeah, me too," she whispered as she turned around, away from him.
"I didn't kill him, Kens," he whispered as he watched her walk away.
She stopped, her back still turned to him, her shoulders heaving as she took a deep breath. When she looked at him over her shoulder, the look on her face was no longer that of Agent Blye.
The determination in Kensi's eyes made his heart flutter with hope, "I never said that."
