Chapter One: Arrival

Cammie's POV:

The first day of a new school. Never fun.

Over the past year I've been to 4 other high schools and let me tell you always being the new girl is crap. According to Sammy I'll be staying here now until I graduate since he's permanently set up shop.

Let me explain you're all probably a little confused... My father died in a car crash. He was a racer and one night went off the track and wrapped his car around a tree, a month later my mom had killed herself because she didn't feel like she could live without him. I never had any brothers or sisters or any other family really. My dad's boss Sammy is now my boss and my adoptive father.

He adopted me a month after I was put into foster care. His company is called 'Speed is in the Heart'. As I've said I work for him I'm a mechanic but mainly I'm the "star of the show" as he likes to say. Mainly because I'm a skilled driver I guess I learnt from my father and because no one but Sammy and the small crew he has knows that I'm the famous driver Anonymous. My identity has been kept a secret ever since my mothers death and I prefer to keep it that way but sometimes when I see other drivers with their fans around them I sometimes wish that, that was me...

Someday it will be.

But now I have to face the first day of high school all over again. I drove into the school's parking lot on my bright green and black Kawasaki Ninja 600 motorbike wearing my black leather attire and my black matt helmet. I don't really have any clothes I can wear until I go shopping after school today.

I'm not really the shopping type if I'm honest with you. I hate it. It's such a drag especially when you don't know what you are shopping for. You end up just wandering around the shops aimlessly for hours and finish with barely anything to show for it. I prefer knowing what I want and where I can get it and then going in and getting right back out again. Easy. In and out within minutes. Saves time to do more important thins like eat. I like to eat...

But since I literally arrived today I've got to endure it. Some of you might be wondering why I didn't just bring clothes with me when I moved, well after each move I like to change what I wear. They style of clothes I wear I guess. Gives me a chance to try something new with no judgement as no one knows me so no one knows any different. If I don't like it I don't buy it. Simple.

After finding a parking spot at the far end of the parking lot I got everything I needed from the small compartment in the seat and started heading to the school doors. I shoved my phone into my back pocket, my keys into my front pocket and then looked up. It almost caused me to stop in my tracks. Everyone and I mean everyone was staring at me. I carried on walking trying not to show my discomfort. Once my hand were free I pulled my helmet off and shook my hair out. I love my bike... But I hate helmet hair.

In all honesty I wish my 1970 Chevy Chenille SS in red with black racer stripes had be moved here but it won't arrive until late tomorrow at least then I could have looked a little bit more normal since it seems like I'm the only one who rides a motorbike here.

I head inside the school to only receive more stares and whispers. I don't mine the attention but I hate being the new girl, because being the new girl means people want to get to know who you are and I hate it. Everyone seems too fake. Trying too hard to get to know me. I prefer chance encounters and running into people by accident, joining a club or even just talking to who ever has the locker next to me. I prefer it. Feels more real to me less forced.

A guy wolf whistled at me (badly might I add) so I raised an eyebrow at him before shaking my head before carrying on walking down the never ending hallway. Finally reaching the main office I collected my school map and locker number and class schedule. The head mistress was very nice but way too preppy.

Walking out saying a 'thank you' to the desk lady I threw the map in the bin and but my schedule in my right chest pocket since I didn't bring a bag with me today.

Once I found my locker I put my helmet on the top shelf. The lockers where the tall, long ones with two shelves inside. One at the top with just enough space from my helmet and then one just below with a little more space and then below was just a small hook on the side that would be for handing a bag or jacket on.

I decided I'd bring in some pictures of me and the guys from the shop and track and a couple from my other schools. I stay in contact with some of the friends I made but it's rare. We never were real friends I guess since I always new I would be leaving by the end of the year. Maybe this year would be different since I know I'm staying.

"Hi,"I jumped as I closed my locker and was face to face with a blonde haired girl just smaller than me with a cheery smile on her face.

"Hi," I said back blandly.

"I'm Liz, just so you know this school isn't used to new people, but if you stay out of our way maybe you'll just about survive," her face showed no emotion and I was shocked at first on how quickly her emotions changed.

"Our way?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows in confusion and tilting my head slightly to the right. She pointed over her shoulder to two other girls. One black haired, pale skinned super model and one brown haired, tanned skinned goddess

"Just stay out of our way, theirs a hierarchy to follow," she shrugged her shoulders.

"I get it. Which one of you is number one then? I know it's not you, if it was you wouldn't be over here talking to me," I tapped my finger on my chin glancing back at the other two girls as she stared at me, "I'd say its the brown haired girl. She's the one giving me the biggest glare where as the other girls just falls flat," I look back at the girl in front of me - Liz - for confirmation.

She turned on her heal and started walking away from me back to the other girls.

"Nice meeting you! We should hang out sometime," I shouted sarcastically which just received a glare over the shoulder. I heard a chuckle from across the hall. Looking where it came from I saw a group of guys watching me and the three girls converse.

"It's rude to eavesdrop," I said to them and with that I turned and walked away down the hall to homeroom.

The only seat free was in the middle next to the girl I met this morning and one of the guys that was eavesdropping on the conversation we were having if you could call it a conversation.

He was wearing black skinny jeans and a white wife beater covered by a leather jacket he just smelled of bad - hello drama.

I sat down and the blond girl glared at me as well as her friend with black hair. The 'number one' girl no where to be seen.

"That seats taken," a male voice spoke from my right. I turned and stared at him blankly, "and you don't care," I turned back to the front of the classroom just as the teacher and miss bad girl walked into the class.

"It seems we haven't got enough seats Rebecca, you'll have to stand at the back today until I can get another desk in for this afternoon," the girl glared at me at least now I knew she was called Rebecca and by the look on her face when the teacher called her that she wasn't too pleased about it.

I prayed to anyone who was listening in hopes that I wouldn't be made to introduce myself. It's the worst part of being new. In every class for the first day sometimes even the second the teachers feel the need to make you stand up and introduce yourself to everyone and basically tell them your life story in five minutes. It's a nightmare and if the Gods are listening to me, please oh please stop it from happening.

"Class we have a new student today called Cameron, where is he sat," I chuckled as did the rest of the class. I get this a lot.

"I prefer Cammie," I spoke slowly. When her eyes met mine you could see she was shocked that I was female and not male.

"Oh my apologies I just presumed," I cut her off.

"It's fine I get it a lot," I smiled at her to convince her it was fine since she still looked guilty. Thankfully the bell went after this and I got up to leave rushing out the door before she asked me to stand up and say 'hi'. I stopped outside the door and glanced at my schedule. It had a blank space so I presumed that meant I had a free period.

"I'm Zach," I jumped and turned around to be faced with the boy who I was sat next to in homeroom.

"Nice to meet you," I did a small curt nod and turned to keep walking. I heard his footsteps behind me.

"I'm guessing it's your Kawasaki Ninja 600 out in the parking lot," I smiled to myself.

"I'm impressed you either know your stuff or you took the time to go over and read it on the side of my bike," I smiled as I turned around stopping him from walking.

"I know my stuff, I'm a mechanic in the garage down the road from here," he nodded slightly behind me as if he was indicating in what direction.

"Is it any good?" No harm in checking out the competition from the source.

"What do you mean? As in is it a good garage to take your car too?" He asked me confused as to why I was asking.

"Yeah, thats exactly what I am asking as I know theres this new place opening up in a week or so," I said with innocence.

"Ah, yeah there is, I wouldn't be surprised if they took most of our business to be honest with you. We are only a small shop this one thats opening is going to be massive," I could hear some excitement in his voice which led me to believe he might be a fan of the other side of the mechanic shop - the race track. I turned and carried on walking down the hall way.

"You intrigue me," he said randomly. The halls of the school were empty since everyone else was either in class or in the library for their free period.

"Oh really," I chuckled under my breath.

There was silence between us as we carried on walking. I had no idea where I was going but I guess free period is a good time to get my bearings with the school. As for Zach's company I don't know why he's still here.

As I'm about to ask him to leave me alone my phone rang. I looked at my caller I.D and I guess Zach did as well.

"Who's Sammy?" I answered my phone not answering him.

"Hey Sammy, what's up and don't say the sky because that's just cliché," I chuckled.

Sammy: "Nothing honey, but I was just letting you know that a close friend will be joining you in about 10 minutes at school,"

"What do you mean a close friend?" My curiosity spiked.

Sammy: "Well he decided he'd come keep you company so he transferred schools,"

"Who?!" I all but screamed down the phone. I could tell Zach was a little freaked out but stood there non the less.

Sammy: "Grant,"

"I love you! Is he on his way now?" I asked even though I recall him saying something about it.

Sammy: "Yes, he's on his way and I've made sure you have lockers next to each other so you can both stick together, I know you both don't like starting at new schools but at least this is the last one now until you both graduate," he sighed.

"That's great news. Yeah we don't like it but we'd never complain about it Sammy we love what we do and we love you for helping us achieve our dreams so if moving around is the price to pay for it then so be it," I laughed a little.

Sammy: "Anyway, I'll get off. Got a lot of work to do at the shop since this one's underground and more like the mechanic shops a secret front for the track, oh I feel all giddy. I talk to you later,"

"You're a little kid but I must admit it does sound cool, I text you when Grant gets here,"

Sammy: "Okay, love ya and leave ya,"

"Love ya and leave ya," I smiled and hung up the phone.

"So I ask again, who's Sammy?" Zach asks as I put my phone away.

"He's my boss and my adoptive father," Before he says anything I turn and walk away.

I end up wandering around the school for a bit when my phone buzzes in my pocket. I pull it out and its Grant telling me that he's here. I find my way to the front doors of the school and step outside to see him just parking up next to me. He's come on his Harley so at least we can stand out together now. Grant is Sammy's nephew so I guess that makes him my cousin but I see him more as a brother. He spots me and starts walking over.

Looking around students outside sitting on the benches are all watching him. He takes his helmet off as I meet him half way. He engulfs me in a massive hug.

"One last school," He says into my ear.

"Let's rock it! Just to let you know the schools extremely cliché, I've already been told to stay out of the 'number one' girls way," I said as he put me back on the floor.

"The number one girl huh," he raises a brow at me.

"Hierarchy," Is all I say and he just nods wrapping his arm around my shoulder as we walk back towards the school. I showed him to the office and then to our lockers and like Sammy had said his was right next to mine. He put his helmet on the top shelve and shut his locker. As if on cue the bell went signalling next period. Looking at my schedule I had history and Grant had geography.

I gave him a hug and we said we would meet at lunch. I found myself walking to history with people looking and whispering about me and Grant. This school is crazy. Everyone wants to know everything about everyone.

The day flew by and at lunch me and grant went to the office to change our classes. We found out they do a mechanics workshop here so it was a no brainer to swap. I swapped history and Grant swapped geography that way no we had all the same classes together. The perfect duo taking the school by storm. And it's only the first day.

In the lunch hall me and Grant sat together on an empty table near the back window. I could still feel eyes on me as I ate.

"It's mad being the centre of attention, I hate having all these eyes on me," I sighed putting my sandwich down and looking up at Grant.

"I know but give it a couple of days and we'll be old news and something else will happen," He said giving me a smile. As I smiled back I saw someone approaching us out of the corner of my eye. I turned and saw it was Zach from my homeroom.

"Hey Cammie," Is all he said as he sat down at the table with his tray and smiled at Grant, "Hi, I'm Zach I sit next to Cammie in homeroom," he stuck his hand out for Grant to shake.

Grant just looked at it and then at me, giving me a look asking me what the hell. I just shrugged and and took a bite of my sandwich. I watched as Grant just stared at Zach and after a minute Zach put his hand down and sighed and looked between us. The air got awkward very quickly.

"Grant," After a torturing five minutes of silence, Grant introduced himself sort of I guess. He carried on eating his food afterwards and looked at me with scrunched eyebrows.

Zach took this as invitation to start talking. He was going on about how this school has all the typical cliques which he thinks is stupid. I don't he realised me and Grant weren't paying much attention to him as he talked. Not until he mentioned Rebecca the so called 'number one' girl.

"Hold up. Say that last part again," I said perking up which then also got Grant's attention.

"Oh Bex, she's like the bad girl of the school, lives up to the reputation as well," he looked between us both, "you might have heard teachers call her Rebecca but she hates it," he threw one of his chips into he mouth as he looked at me.

"I quite like Rebecca," I smirked over at Grant. He gave me this look telling me not to cause trouble but he new deep down it was too late.

"I'd love to see her face if she heard you say that," Zach chuckled at me. I looked at him for a minute.

"So what clique do you belong too?" I asked taking a sip of my soda waiting for his answer. Zach suddenly went quiet and carried on eating his food. Me and Grant looked at each other then back at Zach. Before he answered us someone shouted him over.

Turning to look over my shoulder I recognised the guys to be the ones he was with this morning when they were listening to my conversation with Liz. Speaking of she was stood with them. As well as the wonderful Rebecca and the black haired girl whose name I hadn't yet caught. I looked back at Zach getting the answer to my question.

"Ah, you're the typical bad boy I take it. I guess the job as a mechanic helps with that in some cliché way," I took another sip of my soda looking directly at him. His friends calling him over again.

"You're a mechanic? I would never have guessed," Grant piped up.

"Well I'll catch you guys around," Zach sighed as he stood up with his tray and walked his way over to his friends and sat down next to Rebecca who linked her arm with his and put her head on his shoulder as she glared over at me.

Me and Grant sat in silence for a minute before he spoke up.

"Well looks like we're gonna be having some fun at this school," he chuckled before continuing to each his lunch.

The first day of school is always the most eventful. Hopefully the stares and whispers will stop soon and we can just get on with school.
