Just a little drabble I wrote last night and thought I'd share with you all. Don't own YJ.
Sometimes M'gann couldn't help but notice how Robin stuttered. It wasn't really something she's expected of the boy, having lived in Gotham and all. Well, actually...if Gotham was as scary as the other heroes said, then, yeah, she'd expect it. She could feel a heaviness rolling of the young teen at times, as though he'd seen things he could never forget-and not in a good way. Maybe living there had instilled some kind of permanent fear in him. Stuttering is how humans sometimes showed nervousness, right?
It was mostly over the first consanent, not every single word. And not very bad. Or noticeable. If it was, Wally probably would've brought it up by now-teasing the boy relentlessly-or maybe Artemis(or Connor)would comment on it. But, in all honesty, it was hardly bad at all. Maybe he would've grown out of it, or mostly.
The one word she noticed him stuttering the most on was 'Batman', but mostly on 'B'. It was usually 'B-Batman'. Usually and not always. And sometimes she thought she heard an 'r' after the first 'b'. That was the only word that stood out to M'gann.
Which left her with the nagging question: why would Robin continuously stutter over his own mentor's name?
It probably couldn't have started out that way, M'gann thought. She'd heard stories of how scary The Bat was, but he didn't seem all that scary up close. Only intimidating. But he was only really really scary when intimidating criminals, right? And who was there besides Batman and the criminal(s)? Robin. (well, that's probably how it worked, anyway, not like she stalked the dynamic duo in their patrol across Gotham) Perhaps Batman had scared Robin just as much-if not more-than the criminal. At a younger age, most likely. M'gann couldn't imagine Robin being cowed by Batman now(or a villain of any type, for that matter). Which would also explain why some said that Batman became 'soft'(though, if this was soft, she didn't want to see him 'hard') after he took in Robin. Maybe that was why-he couldn't go about scaring his own partner.
Or maybe it was because his mouth became so used to forming the words 'But Batman…'. He seemed to do that a lot anyways. She could only imagine how many times he had said that in his entire career as Robin. It was only logical that his mouth would be trained to say that after a certain amount of time, like practicing lines for a play or doing a move over and over until you could do it in your sleep(as an expression. it would be very bad if it were to be taken literally-she'd know).
It was only until, years later, when the domino mask was peeled off and she saw his face, knew his name, did it occur to her that he was used to calling Batman by his real name.
Stutter. Yeah, right.
So, this is the result of reading all those fanfics where Robin goes "Br-Batman."
