A\N: I saw the musical Shrek a couple weeks ago and there was this one song called "When Words Fail" I heard it and instantly thought of our dear Severus and Harry. So without further interruption I give you my one shot, nothing of which I own.

When Words Fail

Severus stirred sleepily and opened his eyes. The world came into focus and Severus could see his beautiful Harry was still sleeping, his eyes closed and his face completely relaxed.

Severus was again reminded why he loved Harry. It had nothing to do with the pink bow-shaped lips, or the delicate button nose, it wasn't the coal black lashes that gently brushed his rosy cheeks, or the unruly mop of raven hair with the fringe that came to Harry's eyebrows.

It wasn't any of that, Severus mused. Though they were certainly an added bonus. No, it was the fact that after all he had been through, Harry was still pure and sweet. He had not been forever marred by the harshness of war or loss, though nightmares plagued both Severus and Harry. Harry had remained forgiving, even when he could've turned into Voldemort's double. Severus loved Harry because he was Harry. Not the Golden Boy or whatnot. And Harry loved him. Which was all Severus needed in this life.

Severus wished he could tell Harry these things, but Severus being who he was, he could not. He wasn't sure that Harry knew all of this. Severus tried to tell him with every kiss, touch and caress he could. Because when Severus saw Harry smile at him, his breath left his body, and all words left the potions master.

The morning sun shining through the window of Severus' quarters made Harry look like a creature from heaven. The white duvet seemed to shine brighter, contrasting the black bedposts, all because of Harry. On impulse, Severus reached out and put his arms around Harry, pulling him close. Harry then began to stir and looked up at Severus, smiling.

Any reason or logical thought deserted Severus, and he felt the sudden need to tell Harry just how he felt. But words fail. He couldn't describe to his love what he felt every time he saw him. So he gently put a hand to Harry's face and kissed him softly and passionately. Harry responded enthusiastically, and when Severus swiped his tongue along Harry's lips Harry eagerly opened his mouth. After a moment, Severus broke the kiss, ready to say what he needed.

"Harry, I cannot explain what you make me feel. I just know that since the beginning of us I've held you and never wanted to let go, I've kissed you and time has frozen, fought with you and wanted to reprimand myself, and I've made love to you and never wanted to stop. I'm completely in love with you," Severus said, and wiped the tears away from Harry's cheeks. Harry moved closer to Severus in bed and kissed him softly.

"Severus," he said once the kiss was broken, "you tell me how you feel whenever you touch me or kiss me. I love you, too. Always will." Severus kissed Harry then, knowing that the next time words failed, Harry would still know what he meant.
