Bilbo wept happy tears as the babe was placed on his chest. The child, his son, came into this world not making a single sound, so much so that both the midwife and Bilbo thought that the boy was stillborn. Bilbo didn't know if the silence was trait he had inherited from his dwarven side but he had never known a newborn child to be that quiet.

Bilbo mulled over names for the child in his arms he wanted the babe to have a token of his dwarven heritage. He eventually thought about altering the father's name, and so Thrin son of Thorin was born.

It wasn't Thorin's fault that he missed his son and heir's birth, he didn't even know that Bilbo was a carrier and thus didn't know about the child that Bilbo carried with in his abdomen. Thorin had passed after forgiving Bilbo and since he knew he couldn't bare the funeral he left straight away, he didn't even let Gandalf know but soon the wizard found him and his swollen belly.

Bilbo was dragged out of his memory but his Thrin making a small noise as he asked to be fed so Bilbo gently pulled the front of his shirt down and let his son latch on and suckle till his little belly was full and fell asleep.

With a little pain he gently got up and carried his son to his bassinet and laid him down to sleep. As he stood there for a moment watching the boy sleep he could see that Thrin did have Thorin's most notable features. Thrin had gotten his father's dark hair and Durin blue eyes but also Bilbo's nose and lips but there were also a mix of both hobbit and dwarf features in the tiny babe, the feet were smaller than a hobbit's but a little larger than a dwarf's and Bilbo had guessed that he would be taller than a hobbit but smaller than a dwarf's.

Bilbo silently promised his son that he would always tell him about how brave his father was and how Thorin would be over the moon about finally having a child. He also would tell the child about his two cousins Fili and Kili who also passed in the battle and also the rest of the company who still resided in the lonely mountain.

As Bilbo wandered back to bed he wished that Thorin was there to comfort him and relish the birth of Thrin but he wasn't and that made Bilbo very sad. But at least he had a small part of the man he loved with him...and he wasn't going to let anything happen to it.
