The First Snow

She's not an interesting sort of person - instead, the type that ends up being the third male lead's fifth cousin in a K-drama (aka obscure AF).

Thus, the morning bus is lonely. She sometimes skims through her psychology notes (loudly, so that the boys next to her see that she's not that stupid) or just listens to the K-pop music of the 2012 era. Most days, her father gives her a ride to school. It's more comfortable that way - waking up five minutes later, and lying down in the heat-cushioned car.

(Here's a secret: her best friend is a closet K-pop enthusiast who's mainly her friend because Kristen sounds like Kris*).

On a Sunday afternoon, there is a knock at the front door. Her fingers, numb from typing, pause midair. She looks outside and sees the predicted four inches of snow (it can't be. It really can't be).

There is a series of knocks at her door. ("Three knocks and a pause means you like somebody," she had once told him.) Knock-knock-knock, pause. Hands almost shaking in anticipation, she opens the door, hoping that he doesn't notice the pimple on her forehead.

It is him (the him who looks uncharacteristically shy and is wearing jeans in the first time since forever). Her heart pounds faster. "Hey," she mumbles. "Are you—"

"Is Massie here?"

Her grin freezes. "Yeah, I think she's upstairs. Why?" He stares at her almost blankly, as though it's completely obvious. "I don't—"

His face breaks into a hesitant smile (and deep down, it's been over for a long ti—no, it never even started). "It's the first snow."
