The Survivalists: Part One
Chapter 1: Amity
Newscast

. . .

There are moments in the history of media when every available eye is turned to one phenomenon, one broadcast, one chain of events that sends the world reeling. Everyone who watches does it for their own reasons: mild interest, general concern, personal involvement, or the desire to be involved in something so pivotal, so Earth shaking. Either way, everyone knows and everyone follows.

It had been almost a year ago when the world at large finally accepted the existence of ghosts, the strange rumours of flying technology, cursed warehouses, and brainwashing music in Amity Park finally being accepted as fact rather than fiction. It was a slow process, believers and naysayers pushing to prove who was right. The final straw came with one entity's attempt at a worldwide takeover, halted only thanks to the efforts of Danny Phantom, ghost boy and hero of Amity Park.

Ever since then, any mention of the Most Haunted City in the World in mainstream media garnered a little more attention than the average broadcast. Which was why it was no surprise the moment "Amity" and "missing plane" were heard together all eyes turned to their TVs, their computer screens, and their phones to see what the somber host had to say.

"Breaking news, there's been a development into the disappearance of Amity Airlines flight 117. Departing from San Francisco, California at six a.m. this morning, the plane was scheduled to arrive in Amity Park, Illinois by ten-thirty. But at 9:07 the plane veered from its designated route towards the Gulf of Mexico. Numerous attempts to contact the plane were made but, unfortunately, all were met with radio silence. Or so we believed.

"A final, successful, attempt to contact the plane the plane was made moment before all signs of flight 117 vanished. Air traffic controllers were able to record the short reply, and we have obtained the recording to share with all of you here tonight."

"….crets, so many. So many... don't know... wouldn't you... I'll show you... a little fun..." A loud crackling masked most of the words, until the rasping voice dissolved into giggles, which quickly grew to mad cackles before the sound cut out altogether.

"Among the known passengers was a senior class from Amity Park's Casper High, returning from a school trip. The class included the children of many social elites, as well as Danny Fenton, son of world-renowned ghost hunters Maddie and Jack Fenton. This raises the question, are ghosts somehow involved in the disappearance? Military personnel have since been dispatched to search for the plane, but no evidence of a crash has been found."

One newscast. That's all it took. After all, how couldn't it be interesting when ghosts were involved?
