The Light of Hope
Time long gone by, battle had waged,
At Pandemonium's gate.
Angels and demons in the fray,
The hour growing late.
…
No end was there to Hell's dark tide,
No end to demonspawn.
The angels beckoned, holding ground,
Their spirits sagged, forlorn.
…
Time after time the demons charged,
And the angels stood alone.
So far away from Heaven's gates,
So far from place called home.
…
But lo, there was a flash of light,
And all eyes turned up to sky.
A sign from the High Heavens perhaps,
Yet one angel stood on high.
…
Auriel was all that stood,
And demons below sneered.
The peacemaker, the pacifist?
What was there to fear?
…
Yet something changed within the fray,
The angels now stood tall.
Repelled one wave after another,
They held the fortress walls.
…
And over time, with certainty,
The demons' ranks were thinned.
Piety and righteousness,
Held back the touch of sin.
…
And finally, the waves of Hell,
Their ranks at last were broke.
For the angels, they had held the line,
Spurred on by light of hope.
