Megan is on the verge of death and Paige needs to get it through Walter's thick head.

Accepting a Devastating Fate

"You need to accept that she will die Walter."

Walter, headed for the door in a hurry, stopped abruptly suddenly overcome with anger.

He breathed heavily, "Paige, it is... disheartening, to see how you have have no faith that I can save my sister." he spoke slowly but shakily, "And you have been constantly reminding me that I will eventually fail. You and Cabe. Why?" he stares at her sharply as if daring Paige to answer.

She stared at him for a minute overcome with sympathy, "I don't think you'll fail, but I also I don't care if you do. I don't care you figure out a way to build a Megan-robot!"

Walter's frown deepened.

"...because... nothing you can do will ever replace her, save her..."

He swallowed.

"... And someday, soon, you going to have to face the fact that she will be gone. And then it won't matter anymore."

Walter seemed frozen in place. After a few moments he took a sudden deep breath and stepped backwards, clumsily rubbing his face aggressively, "But I can help her... I... I'll never forgive myself if don't Paige"

Paige licked her lips because her falling tears were starting to make them tickle, "I know. But I also know, she needs you to be her little brother, who loves her."

Walter smirked ever so slightly.

Paige smiled through her sobbing mess, "What's so funny?"

"I just realized... I've known in my mind around when and what it would look like when she died. For years I've known... But only now do I finally realize that there's a scenario where she dies and there's nothing else. No cure, no solution, nothing. Maybe I am pretty stupid for believing otherwise."

Paige, a bit surprised at his response, pinched his arm, "Look at us! We're both crying now."

Walter frowned and rubbed his arm, "What was that for?"

Paige rolled her eyes, "That didn't hurt. And it called being playful, Walter," her eyes lite up, "You know what? I have an idea!"

"If you suggest that we go clothes shopping again there's no way I'm trying on tha..."

"What? No no, not that." Paige interrupted quickly.

"How about we decorate her room? You know Thanksgiving style. We can all watch something together too!"

Walter raised his eyebrows, "What exactly is 'Thanksgiving style'?"

Paige beamed, "Leave that to me. You find a projection and a movie. Make sure you pick something that's cute and funny"

Walter stared at her blankly.

"Never mind I'll pick the movie. Ok, I'll be back in an hour and then we can leave for the hospital."

Walter was about to mention the amount of unfinished work he had, but Paige was already out the door, but not before kissing him on the cheek.

Now Walter was all alone in the garage, and in a barely noticeable way, he smiled.
