A/N: I was given a prompt to write a story about Sharon and dancing, with a preference to write a Rusty themes story. I decided to include Gus too.
Gus tended to blurt out whatever Rusty was too scared or unable to say himself and it didn't surprise Sharon to learn about the recent so-called crisis the two young men found themselves in from Gus instead of her son. She could understand why Rusty might feel embarrassed coming to her with this, but she really didn't mind helping the boys out in this situation. In fact, she was quite thrilled about teaching them a new skill, and especially one she was really good at.
It was a wedding that got the two boys bothered by the idea of dancing. Admitting that neither of them knew how to dance made Gus blush like a ripe tomato. Sharon barely managed to suppress her amusement as she listened to Gus describing how a friend from his new job said everyone must slow-dance at his upcoming wedding, including Gus and Rusty.
"I'm gonna teach you how to dance, it's no problem at all," Sharon said as she put away the file she was reading when the boys approached her. "Do you have music, or should we play one of my CD's?"
"Definitely our music!" Rusty called out before Gus had the chance to answer. Sharon's CD's included a variety of 80's songs and classical music. He though some modern-day slow music would be much more likely to be played at the wedding. He quickly connected his phone to Sharon's stereo system (he couldn't believe she still had one of those antiques!) and looked up for a suitable song. The first noted of Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' began playing.
"Oh, I love this song," Sharon smiled.
"You know this song?" Rusty's eyebrows arched in surprise.
"Yeah, I hear it on the radio almost every day when I drive to work. I am not unfamiliar with modern-day music, Rusty," she replied and her tone was playful.
"Whatever you say," her son grinned and Sharon rolled her eyes dramatically. "Okay, so I'm gonna teach both of you two things; one is to lead the dance, and the other is to be led in dance. Who wants to go first?" Both of the boys looked at her, suddenly shy and apprehensive. Sharon placed her hands on her hips and stared them down until Gus finally volunteered. He came to stand in front of her and she smiled at him as she placed one of his hands at the side of her body and the other in the air in front of her. She then demonstrated the way he should move his feet, and began leading him in dance across the room until his steps were smooth. "That was great, Gus," she said when they paused. "Now, instead of me leading you, I want you to lead me. The only different between what we've just done is that you are the one who controls the dance and I need to follow."
"Okay," Gus had a determined expression on his face as he took the first step and Sharon responded accordingly.
"You're doing really well!" Sharon called out and smiled. They came to a stop and Sharon looked at Rusty. "It's your turn now." Her son stepped forward and she repeated the instructions she gave Gus. She bit her bottom lip when Rusty stepped on her toes even before they made the first step. "It's nothing," she said and smiled reassuringly at her timid son, and proceeded to demonstrate the steps to him. It took Rusty a couple of attempts to move in the right direction, and with the proper posture and then Sharon let him lead her, as she's done with Gus. Dancing with Rusty wasn't as smooth as it was with Gus, and she knew that he would need to practice a little more, but she was sure that with Gus as a dance partner, he won't have much problem perfecting his dance moves.
THE END
As always, I'd love to know what you think about this story, so feel free to leave a review or send me a PM.
