AN: So... this is the last chapter. I can't tell how much I am grateful for all your support in my first fic. This was the first time ever that I was able to finish one of my stories. When I first started writing this, I was going through a rough time - I still am, but I'm getting there... - and you really gave me strengh to keep writing and keep doing what was good to me. Thank you!

Now, I am really sorry it took me so long to post this. I guess I was a little afraid and then started another fic hahaha

I would also like to say... no, I'll say it at the end, don't want to spoiler you.

R&R, please!

Epilogue

Four months later

Luke took a sip of his coffee and looked at the woman before him. She was very different from when he met her. But at the same time, when he looked into those bright blue eyes, he could see the same confusion he saw a few months ago; they were still troubled. She was not okay.

".. and you?" She asked, finishing some story that he was oblivious to. He couldn't take his eyes off of her.

"I've been better, been worse." He stalled. "I'm thinking about moving here, to DC…"

"Really?" she asked, a smile on her lips. The first one since they've met again, but it never reached fully to her eyes. "That would be awesome! What made you want that?"

"You" he answered simply.

When she just stared at him, he continued.

"You are amazing, Jen. You know that, right?" he sighed. "All your strength, all your… resilience. I want that. I wanna help people, just like you've helped me"

She chuckled sadly.

"I didn't help you, Luke. If anything, I got your mom killed." She said, but looked at him immediately. "Sorry"

"Don't ever say that again! The person who killed my mother was Madalin, not you, Jennifer."

She shook her head, not believing one single word he said.

"But if it wasn't for me…"

"If it weren't for you, Madalin would have done it with someone else. She might still be killing until now. You stopped her, Jen. And you helped me, even if you don't realize. You helped me find a meaning to my life." He took a deep breath and the continued. "My mother wanted me to go to college, to be someone… and because of you, now I know exactly who I want to be. I'm gonna apply to the FBI academy. I wanna be an agent but, eventually, I wanna be a profiler. Just like you are."

"Were." She interjected, a sting of bitterness in her voice. But she hid it quickly. Not enough, but still… "I'm not a profiler anymore"

"But you're doing your treatment, Jen. You will be able to go back…"

She looked at him and he could almost see the tears in her eyes.

"I'm not sure… this damn hand just won't work properly… it got better, but still…" she said, extending her arm and closing her hand in a fist, showing to him how it was still shaky. "They won't accept me back. They have better options than a fucked up one-handed former agent"

He looked at her intently.

"How are you, Jennifer?"

She physically cringed hearing this.

"I'm fine."

He waited for her to continue, but she didn't. Her eyes darted around frantically, while she kept biting the inside of her cheeks.

"Jen… you were kidnapped. You lost your memory. You and Emily went through hell on her hands. You shot…you were in the hospital for two months!" He said forcefully. "I can't even imagine what that must do to a person…"

For almost ten minutes they just sat there, eating their meals.

"And how are you and Emily doing?"

This time a real smile appeared on her face.

"Tonight's gonna be our first date since all of this ended."

Luke smiled truthfully.

"Really? But you guys haven't… you know… you are living together, right?"

She chuckled at him. Really chuckled.

"You have one dirty mind! Yes, we are living together, but no, we haven't done anything…" she took a sip of her drink. "Like you said, I was in the hospital for two months. Unconscious, for most of the time. Then we went back, and I was in bed rest, and she was also on treatment for her leg… she just got cleared to work, by the way."

"I'm glad to hear that"

"We're taking it slow… though we did sleep together, literally. She slept with me while I was in recovery and then… well. We both enjoyed it, so we just continued doing this. Spooning together. It's really nice"

She said with a grin, and they both laughed.

He looked at her one more time, and asked again.

"And how are you?"

She sighed and then stared blankly at her plate.

"I don't know."

After her lunch with Luke, Jennifer went walking to her house. Emily's house, a voice in her head told her. But still, it felt like home for her, and maybe it was a good thing. Maybe she was finally starting to feel like she belonged somewhere…

She finally got home and went to unlock the door. She wanted to get some rest before the events of the night. She sighed, tired, and was relieved to know that she would be alone for the afternoon, since Emily was at the BAU handling the paperwork for her return. She would try to get some sleep.

Try. That was one of the words she hated the most at the moment. It seemed that she had to try to do everything lately, but she failed at almost everything too. Her hand, her work… sleeping, eating. She failed everything.

At least her memory was coming back, but neither that provided any comfort, it only made her realize how much she'd lost and how she was a failure in this 'new' life.

She opened the door and leaned on it, closing her eyes. She massaged her temples, feeling the beginning of a migraine. Fuck. She was feeling these headaches constantly lately. I need to sleep.

Going into the kitchen to get some aspirin, she took one pill and filled one glass of water. When she turned around and leaned on the sink, she was shocked to see someone sitting on the chair. She dropped the glass and barely heard it crashing into thousands of pieces on the floor. She closed her eyes and shook her head. No, no, no, this is not true; it can't be.

"Closing your eyes won't make me go away, love"

JJ opened her eyes and she hadn't gone away, indeed.

This couldn't be right.

She had shot and killed Madalin.

So how come she was sitting in her kitchen, talking to her?

"You're dead." JJ replied.

"And yet, you are talking to me".

What the hell? JJ thought, the irony of the situation dawning on her.

A dead person telling her the absurdity of her talking to a… dead person. Formidable.

She turned around and grabbed another pill, filling another glass of water and drinking everything in one gulp.

"Are you really going to ignore me completely?" Madalin asked. "I'm hurt" she said with a mocking tone.

JJ looked at it and shook her head, deciding to go straight to her bedroom. Her head was killing her.

She closed the door and put her hands in her temples again. Fucking migraine. But when she looked to her bed, Madalin was there.

"You won't get away from me"

JJ looked at her and said, angrily.

"I've already gotten away from you. I put a bullet in the middle of your fucking head, you failed in your shitty little plan. I won, you lost."

"Did you, love? Did you really win? Are you sure about that?" Madalin asked, getting closer and closer to her. "Are you working? Are you dating that whore again? Have you had sex with her or was I the last one who touched you?"

"Get out!" JJ said, holding her head between her hands.

"Am I really gone, Jennifer? Tell me! I am right here, in front of you! I don't think you really got rid of me"

JJ felt her world beginning to spin and it was like the air had been sucked from her lungs. She tried to lean on the bedside table, but her hand slipped and she fell to the ground, along with the table and the lamp on it. The last thing she heard before she passed out was Madalin's voice.

"I won, Jennifer. I won and you will never forget me"

The first thing she realized was the smell of cleanness that invaded her nostrils. Then, she felt something poking her right arm. She opened her eyes and closed them instantly, the brightness of the room hurting her eyes. Then, she opened them again, more slowly this time, and looked at her arm. There was an IV bag beside her.

She turned her head and saw Emily sitting right beside her; with her head on the bed and her arm though her waist.

"Em…" she whispered, the dryness of her throat making her uncomfortable.

Emily's head snapped up with the sound of JJ's voice and she perked up on her chair.

"Hey baby, you are awake. How are you? Are you in any pain?" she asked worried.

"Thirsty…" JJ whispered again and Emily immediately held her a cup of water.

JJ took small sips of it and looked at Emily.

"When are we leaving?"

Emily sighed.

"Jen, I found you passed out on the bedroom, the bedside table upside down. I'm worried about you…"

JJ gulped.

"I'm sorry, it's just… I was tired, thirsty. I think my blood pressure dropped… it's nothing. I'm sorry I scared you… and ruined our date"

"Jen, you don't have to be sorry for that" Emily replied and then hugged her. "I just want you to get better…"

"I am better… please, Em, I can't stand being in hospitals anymore" JJ said and closed her eyes. She just wanted to lie in her own bed and see if her headache would go away.

Emily looked at her sympathetically. JJ had spent too much time in the hospital; she understood why she was eager to leave.

"Okay, the doctor told me there was nothing wrong with you; they were just waiting for you to wake up. I'm sure he will let us go…" Emily said. "I'll talk to them"

JJ just nodded.

They arrived home and Emily decided to order something while they sat on the couch, spooning together while watching TV. They ate together and then just stood on the sofa, with JJ lying on Emily's lap and the older woman caressing her hair.

"Are you sure you are okay? Do you need something?" Emily asked. She was so afraid when she got home and saw JJ lying on the floor… she had already almost lost her once; she couldn't stand if it happened again.

"I'm fine, I just… want to go to the bedroom."

"So let's go" Emily said, getting up and helping JJ.

They entered the bedroom and lay on the bed, facing each other.

"I really wanted to go out with you… I'm sorry" JJ said apologetically.

"I told you, you have nothing to feel sorry about. We will do it another day, we have all the time of the world" Emily said, smiling.

JJ leaned on her and kissed her cheek, breathing in the scent of the woman that made her feel so safe.

"I just… wanted to do something…" JJ said, looking intently at Emily's lips.

She felt the older woman's pulse speed up and kissed her slowly on the lips. It was quick, almost like testing the ground to see how Emily would react.

Emily had her eyes closed and her mouth a little open, as if inviting her to continue.

"Jen…" Emily said, her voice rusty.

"I missed you" JJ replied.

And when Emily opened her eyes, JJ saw nothing but love and longing. Then she kissed her again.

This time, Emily's lips allowed her entrance and she slipped her tongue inside her mouth. The kiss was calm, both women exploring each other, remembering this feeling after more than a year apart.

Soon, the kiss got angrier, their longing and desire being too much for them to hold it anymore. Their breathing became shorter as hands started to explore. Emily gently leaned on top of JJ and started to caress her, moving her hands down her thigh and up her hips. JJ put her hand on Emily's back, under her shirt and started to stroke her.

"I missed you so much" Emily said. "I couldn't live without you, I was so lost…" Emily trailed off and kissed her on her neck, going down to her collarbone.

"I'm sorry" JJ said, her eyes filling with tears.

"I've got you now" Emily whispered in her ear, causing JJ to shudder.

JJ then took off Emily's shirt and unhooked her bra, moaning as she felt her breasts on her hand. Emily also took off JJ's shirt and moaned when she saw the blonde was wearing no bra.

Emily kissed JJ's neck and left a trail of kisses down to her chest, and moved to her breasts.

"You are so beautiful, Jen… your skin, your eyes, everything… I'd never forget you, this…" and she leaned down to kiss her again.

But JJ wasn't seeing her again anymore. She was seeing Madalin on top of her and she started to panic. Images flooded her mind and suddenly she couldn't breathe anymore.

Never forget that I love you, Kate.

"Stop"

You will never forget me.

As soon as this word left JJ's mouth, Emily stopped and got off of her, sitting on the bed wide-eyed.

"Jen? What's the problem?"

But JJ didn't answer. Her breathing was ragged and her eyes were unfocused. She was having flashbacks.

"Jen, look at me! You are okay, this is me, Emily. You are safe with me…"

Jennifer then looked at her and blinked.

"Em?" she asked, eyes darting all around the room.

"Yes, baby, it's me…"

"I…" she clutched her head in her hands. Fucking migraine.

"I'm sorry" the blonde whispered, feeling her eyes fill with tears. "I wanted to… be with you… but I…"

Emily, thinking that this was a good time to touch her, lay down next to her and pulled her to her chest, caressing her hair.

"It's okay, Jen. It's okay… it's not your fault, don't worry…"

"I… just…" JJ didn't know what to say. What was wrong with her?

"Just relax, babe. Close your eyes and relax…" Emily said, reassuring.

But JJ couldn't relax. She thought that once she got out of the hospital, everything would be right again. But it wasn't. What if she'd never go back to normal? What if she was fucked up beyond hope?

Sighing, she looked at the mirror in front of the bed. The image that she saw didn't connect with the thoughts in her head. The mirror reflected the image of a troubled woman in her early thirties. But in her head she was…

She didn't know who she was.

She didn't know if she would ever be someone again.

She wasn't Kate.

But she was so far from being Jennifer Jareau either…

She was nobody.

So, she hugged Emily tighter, closed her eyes and let her mind drift off. Maybe, by the morning, she would wake up to a new day where her head didn't hurt and she could do something different, be something different.

But then again, maybe.

The end?

AN: I know, I know! But hey, you also know how I am the queen of cliffhangers! So, as I was going to say before: sorry about this! I know you will probably want to choke me, but I am having so much fun with this... and I couldn't make myself believe that everything could end so quickly for Emily and JJ, not after everything that they went through. So yes, I am planning a sequel... and I'd like to hear your opinion about it.

Thank you very much again :-*
