"If it is your wish to save the boy that you love," said Kyubey to May Chang, who still seemed hesitant. He wagged his tail and stood patiently. "then I can grant it."

"And what do you request in exchange?" asked May narrowing her eyes. I really want to help Alphonse, but this seems too good to be true.

"That you become a magical girl and contra-"

Suddenly, a transmutation circle erupted into existence below Kyubey and blinded both of them.

"What?" Kyubey looked around at the white void. "What is . . .?"

Kyubey saw a figure with his stature but instead it was all white and had a large grin. It showed giant razor sharp teeth as if it were looking at its next meal. Kyubey tilted his head. Is this the figure that I've been researching about? I never expected a sentient being. I had thought that aspect of the information was part of a fable. No matter . . .

"Pleased to make your acquaintance," said Kyubey carefully, wagging his tail to appear non-threatening. "Might I ask who you are? And could you perhaps take me back? I was in the middle of making a contract with that young girl."

"Who am I? Some people call me the World, others call me God," said the strange being. Kyubey paused. God?! Is this being so arrogant as to -? "or perhaps the Truth; I am all and I am One, so certainly . . ."

The all-white copy of Kyubey pointed it's ethereal tail towards Kyubey. "I am You."

"Ah, and why have you interfered with me? I have no quarrel with you," said Kyubey, "I was just talking to a young girl about personal issues that she was forthcoming with telling me."

"I have come to bring you the truth. I am the truth of your despair. The inescapable effects of your boastfulness. You interfered within a domain that was beyond your comprehension," said the Truth slowly drifting closer. "and you attempted to interfere with the laws of equivalent exchange that I set forth within that domain. All the while believing yourself superior to humans, it was truly amusing to witness. You have no idea of just how amusing you truly are to me with all the contradictions that you exhibit."

"Well, of course I tried to give humans what they want instead of following those limiting natural laws within that planet," said Kyubey, straightening his posture. "Human emotions interfere too much with objectives and their own goals. It does little more than weaken obtaining their own goals. Anger, rage, apathy, and grief . . . and even their so-called positive emotions such as love cause all sorts of personal issues that create various forms of self-harm. Emotions become so extreme that they sometimes lead their own species to suicide. It is why my species views it as a mental illness. Human emotions have no value."

"Ah, there it is," said the Truth, grinning and pointing its tail at Kyubey, "for all your boastfulness, you do not see the fundamental self-contradictions with your philosophical view of human emotions. That is why I have brought you here and that is why that you shall receive the despair of truth."

"Despair of truth?" said Kyubey, tilting it's head. "My position is based upon extensive research of operant social behavior within human civilizations. I've seen countless empires destroy themselves and humans ruin their own personal lives while ignoring their chief objectives. There is no self-contradiction in my understanding of human behavior."

"Truly? Well, allow me to spell them out for you, one by one," said Truth, "Unlike the others that I bring truth too, I shall use simple logic to refute what you misperceive to be rationality. Your misconceptions about human emotion come from your own lack of understanding of what emotions are. You choose to denigrate humanity and believe yourself a higher intellectual being than humans because, as you've said it yourself, you don't understand them. That is, fundamentally, what humans would call the argument from ignorance."

" . . . I don't understand." said Kyubey, tilting its head.

"Precisely, that is why it is an argument from ignorance," replied the Truth, "but you commit a far worse self-contradiction. You argue that humans would be better off without such emotions but it is your harvesting of human emotions from their souls that continue the longevity of the universe from heat death. You do this, fully well knowing it is precisely this so-called mental disorder, the subject matter of which you admit to have no clear understanding, that is keeping all life from dying out. Yet, all the while, you constantly denigrate them and argue the very aspect of them that is keeping the universe alive is ultimately worthless."

"I . . . don't understand your point," said Kyubey, "such desires make no logical sense to my species because our chief aim is our goals. It has nothing to do with my harvesting of human souls as incubator."

"You harm the goals of humans that you sacrifice, and through it all, you claim to have no understanding of why they're upset," said the Truth, "despite understanding that they've failed in their intended goals thanks to your interference. Your wish granting is generally a part of their own greater goal, which they keep to themselves."

"That is ridiculous, it is their responsibility, they chose not to tell me their chief aims," said Kyubey, "if they didn't consider the effects then that has nothing to do with me. Beyond which, the more emotional turmoil they go through, the better it is for my own aims."

"Ah, but you too aren't forthcoming with the full truth of your information," said the Truth grinning, "and admit that you have no conceptualization of what a lie is. Fundamentally, yet again, an argument from ignorance. Despite this, you seem to understand well enough that you push humans into psychological states that are counterproductive to their goals but fall into the chief aim of your goal of harvesting their soul."

"That is because they don't ask about the full effects," said Kyubey, "besides, they achieve the aim that they wished for, why is that not enough? Humans conduct far worse upon other animals within their own planet and among themselves. Furthermore, from what I understand, are your methods so different? You punish humans who seek perfection and insult their human origins based on my research."

"Wrong, I simply set up the circumstances for humans to learn for themselves what they feel is the correct answer as long as they do not shame their own human origins while pursuing their goals and make the effort themselves. I bestow despair when they begin to lose touch with their own reality and sense of self. To denigrate one's own limited origins and deem their own origins as ignoble is an utter fallacy on their part because they believe themselves above their species instead of recognizing the very simple fact that their pursuits and desires are all human to the core. For that matter, there is nothing wrong or shameful about that." said the Truth, grinning once more as it was close to Kyubey's face. "Which is precisely why you're here, foolish one. Answer me this one question, for what purpose are you stopping the heat death of the universe beyond just survival of the interplanetary species? For what desire does your asexual quadruped species exist?"

"To learn the secrets of the universe to fully understand how it works," said Kyubey, "Now, for what purpose did you bring me here?"

"To give you exactly what you want," said the Truth.

Kyubey flinched as he heard the sound of two giant doors opened. He turned around to see a large set of double doors with a black void. Suddenly, the black void opened up to reveal a giant grey eye.

"Wh - what?!" muttered Kyubey, as he bent his legs to prepare to flee. "What is that?! I don't understand!"

Giant black hands charged forth towards him. Kyubey turned around and leapt to avoid the onslaught but another pair of giant hands grabbed him and began pulling him inward. Kyubey tried to wring himself out but was effectively immobile.

"What is this?! What are you doing?!" said Kyubey, looking at the smiling Kyubey impersonator. "Why are you doing this?! I DON'T UNDERSTAND!"

"I'm giving you the full knowledge that you desire," said the Truth, "all the knowledge of the universe through the link that humans have with such knowledge. This is what you wanted, isn't it? To gain the full scope of knowledge of the universe itself. Well, here it is!"

The Truth began laughing as Kyubey vainly continued trying to break free. Kyubey was pulled into the void and the doors slammed shut with a thunderous boom.

"That . . . cannot be . . . correct . . ." whispered Kyubey, as he fidgeted and his body shook before collapsing onto the ground. "That cannot . . . be . . ."

"Did you enjoy the show?" said the Truth chuckling. "You should feel honored for being granted the unique opportunity."

"I . . . no . . . it cannot be . . . !" said Kyubey shaking, as he pushed his head and neck to look up at the grinning Truth. "I saw it . . . I . . . saw all. But . . . I'm incapable . . . I'm too unintelligent . . . to understand the full scope?!"

The Truth stopped grinning and the mouth expression changed to a more solemn visage.

The Truth spoke. "Does the truth of your limitations really come as a surprise? You had no understanding of human emotions, no conception of just how volatile and dangerous they were, and treated the entire species as if it were in a constant state of mental disorder despite needing their emotions more than anyone else - including the humans themselves. You never thought to question just how deep your lack of understanding was. You never sought to question why other animals within the planet had the same emotional attachments to their own forms of cohesive social order. You didn't understand the species preserving aspects of social bonding. Did you truly not realize the utter contradiction in giving such vast quantities of power to an entire species that you deemed unfit to act rationally? Why did you not realize the simple fact that it could have traumatic and permanent consequences for both your entire species and I? You could already conceive the concept of God and feared such great power, but you didn't realize that you were bestowing God-like power to emotionally unstable children and forming conditions that exacerbated maladaptive behavior that could effectively destroy your own long-term goal? You took no precautions whatsoever? You never thought of the long-term consequences of how dangerous it could be? On a fundamental level, you could have unraveled the very essence of space-time and destroyed all life by allowing those young girls to become witches. Fleeing from such a catastrophe would have been impossible with even your powers."

"I . . . you're . . . right . . ." muttered Kyubey, "Why . . . did . . . I . . . never . . . make . . . precautions?! That . . . was an oversight . . . that would definitively lead to . . . disastrous consequences."

"And then there is your lack of understanding of the basics of humans." said the Truth, "You had a complete lack of understanding of their linguistic differences, such as dialectics, and the concept of love. Yet, what you couldn't understand, you denigrated as part of a preconceived mental disorder that you posited. Therefore, you arrogantly believed yourself superior as a result of your own lack of understanding. Should your wish granting powers have destroyed the planet, how would you have been able to fulfill your next quota when the time came to harvest souls to prevent the heat death of the universe? Yet, another oversight on your part. By your own admission, you're incapable of understanding from your own mistakes because you have no understanding of emotions themselves."

"But . . . what else . . . could be . . . done?" questioned Kyubey, breathing heavily as he lay on the ground. "How . . . else . . . can . . . the . . . heat death . . . be stopped?"

The Truth grinned once again. It's large, shining teeth reminiscent of a shark. "That'll be up to humanity to decide. Their fate is of their own making."

"You . . . cannot . . . be . . . serious . . . !?" wheezed Kyubey, his body flopped on the floor like a fish before his movements stopped and he helplessly lay on the floor. "Humanity . . . will kill . . . itself from . . . either stagnation . . . or . . . their own . . . limitations . . . they . . . are . . . incapable of . . . solving the . . . cosmic issues!"

"I disagree," said the Truth, the giant doors of the universe slowly re-opening itself. The giant eye fixated upon Kyubey's beaten body. "humanity may annihilate itself. However, that decision is up to humanity. Humanity has the infinite potential for both self-destruction and self-surpassing. You shall not interfere."

"No . . . !" whispered Kyubey before the black hands grabbed him once again.

"For your actions, I grant you this privilege and despair. You shall gain your ultimate goal. Have fun learning all the knowledge of the known universe for all eternity," said the Truth, "you and all of your other selves shall remain here forever. Enjoy!"

The Truth laughed a multi-voiced, high, and cold laugh filled with mockery as Kyubey's exhausted body was taken into the black void and the gates of Truth shut itself upon Kyubey forever.
