Chapter 5: Meeting The Heiress

The trio finally reached Rustboro City, their first destination being the Pokemon Center. Ruby, Blake, and Yang walked into the Pokemon Center to a scene of chaos. There were several people at the front counter calling for Nurse Joy to heal their injured pokemon. Nurse Joy was dealing with the trainers as best she could, but even with Chansey helping her out there were still many people waiting for their pokemon to be healed. Ruby gave her pokeballs to Yang to give to Nurse Joy and went over to one of the more patient trainers sitting in the waiting area.

"What's going on with all these people?" Ruby asked the boy, who was holding his injured poochyena in his lap.

"From what I can tell, most of them came from the forest after being attacked by some rouge group of trainers wearing these creepy pokemon masks." The boy rubbed the poochyena's head gently and said "I was attacked by two of them at once. Yena did her best to fight back but they overpowered her. Thankfully the two of them got distracted by a pack of zigzagoon running past and I was able to escape back here, but I don't feel safe going back there to train anymore"

Ruby nodded, "The same thing happened to my sister and I on our way to the city. We barely managed to escape. Where do you think these guys came from?"

The boy shrugged and started petting his pokemon's head attempting to comfort it. "Whoever they are, they're a real threat. Once news starts spreading of these attacks, I'm sure people will start avoiding the forests."

Ruby nodded and looked around at all the trainers gathered in the pokemon center, either waiting patiently or begging Nurse Joy for some news on their partners' conditions. Seeing that Yang and Blake were still waiting in the mob of people trying to shove their fainted pokemon into Nurse Joy's arms, Ruby decided to stock up on supplies and more pokeballs for the long journey ahead. She said her goodbyes to the boy and walked across the pokemon center to get in line for the shop.

After a few minutes of waiting in line, Ruby made it up to the front and bought eight more pokeballs and four potions. She payed the cashier for the supplies and wandered back over to the waiting area, noticing that the building had calmed down considerably since the last time she checked.

After waiting for another twenty minutes, Ruby saw Yang and Blake coming back from the counter, Yang looking ruffled and Blake holding back her amused chuckles at Yang's appearance. "Those guys deserve to be punched. Thinking that they get priority just because they're at the front of the crowd" Yang grumbled, handing Ruby her pokeballs back. Ruby immediately let Crescent Rose and Cookies out and kneeled down to rub their heads.

"Thank you both for fighting so hard and saving us back in the forest. If it weren't for you we wouldn't have survived that jerk's attempts to flatten us" Ruby said, pulling both her Pokemon into a hug.

"So what do you two plan to do now that you're in town?" Blake asked the sisters, her hand on her hip.

Yang and Ruby looked at each other and then back at Blake. "We're going to challenge Roxanne and then stay for a few nights before heading off to Dewford." Yang said. Ruby nodded in affirmation, a look of determination in her eyes.

"What about you, Blake?" Ruby asked, standing up and returning Cookies to his pokeball, "What are you going to do now that you've deserted the White Fang?"

"I'm… not all that sure. Going to the police won't be a good idea. My past association with the White Fang would do more harm than good." Blake said, frowning.

Yang wrapped her arm around the poke-faunus who tensed at the contact. "Don't worry Blake, till you find out what you're going to do next you can stick with us, we'll protect you from those psychos out there"

Blake ducked out from under Yang's arm and said, "I appreciate the offer, but I don't need protection. Right now we should focus on resting up and finding out what the White Fang plans on doing next."

Yang nodded and grinned. "Well until we find a place to stay, we should go out and train. Next time we go up against that Adam guy, I'm gonna wipe the floor with him

Ruby gave Yang a thumbs up and looked down at Crescent Rose. "You wanna go take a walk around the city? We can look for some places to eat, or maybe even a bakery" Ruby said, her mouth watering at the thought.

Crescent Rose nodded in approval and made a happy sound "Sol!"

"Ok then, let's go" Ruby said, making her way towards the door, out into Rustboro.

"Absol!" Crescent Rose cooed happily as she and Ruby came out of the third bakery they'd been in so far. This one was called "The Spotted Flour" and it was selling some the the most delicious looking brownies that Ruby had ever seen. She promptly went in and bought three of them, one for her, Yang, and Blake respectively, and some good looking pokemon treats for Cookies and Crescent Rose.

Taking a bite of her brownie, Ruby hummed in appreciation at how good it was. The inside was warm and gooey while the outside had a firmness to it so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hand. Throughout the brownie there were little chocolate chips that brought out the flavor even more.

Ruby sat down on a nearby bench and gave Crescent Rose her treat and relaxed in the sunlight, thinking about the attack earlier that day. 'I'm really fortunate that Cookies knew Metronome. I should probably buy him another treat for saving me' Ruby thought.

Ruby jumped up and started jogging towards the bakery. Unfortunately she wasn't watching where she was going and ran straight into a girl with pure white hair, knocking them both to the ground.

"Watch where you're going you imbecile!" The girl yelled, standing up quickly and glaring down at Ruby.

"I-I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention" Ruby said, cowering in fear at the harrowing glare the girl was giving her.

The girl continued to scowl at Ruby until she noticed something on the ground near her feet. The girl picked it up and Ruby saw it was a premier ball with a snowflake design decorating the top of it. "Unbelievable!" the girl screeched, "You knock me over and make me drop my pokeball!"

"I'm really sorry" Ruby apologized again, standing up and dusting herself off. Since she was no longer being stared down, she could see the girl she had knocked over. The girl was wearing a white strapless dress that ended at her knees. Over top of the dress she was wearing a white bolero jacket and stood a few inches taller than Ruby on high heeled boots. Around her neck was a black apple pendant and her hair was tied into an off center ponytail that was crowned with a black tiara pin. Most interestingly down the left side of her face was a crooked scar that ran over one of her light blue eyes. All together it gave her an air of superiority.

"A simple apology won't cut it. You could have damaged my pokeball and my pokemon along with it!" The girl yelled, her face becoming red.

"Ok, calm down princess. I said I was sorry, what else do you want from me?!" Ruby said, sick of this girl's attitude.

Fuming, the girl held up her pokeball. "Battle me", she said, "I want to take you down"

Taken aback, Ruby glanced over at Cress who looked back at her with a mix of shock and confusion on her face. Looking back at the girl, Ruby said "Yeah sure, I'll battle you"

"Excellent, follow me, there's a battle arena over this way." the girl said, marching off down the street leaving Ruby and Cress behind in stunned silence.

Ruby shook her head and started after the girl, beckoning for Cress to follow. "Hey, wait up. I'd at least like to know your name before we battle"

The girl looked back at her with a frown on her face "I am Weiss Schnee. My father owns Schnee Corporation, the main manufacturer and distributor of pokeballs in Hoenn"

"Wow guess I wasn't far off with the princess thing then, heh." Ruby chuckled to herself.

Weiss kept walking, ignoring Ruby's comment. Weiss led them to a small park with a few areas set aside for Pokemon battles. She chose the closest one and crossed the field, turning around to face Ruby when she had reached the far side.

Ruby stepped onto the field and Cress sat down beside her, watching Weiss. "So how do you want to do this, fight until we're out of pokemon or...?" Ruby trailed off, waiting for the heiress to give an answer.

"One Pokemon each. The first one to get taken out loses." Weiss said, taking a pokeball off her belt, another one of those custom premiere balls, Ruby noticed. "This should be a quick battle." she said, before tossing her pokeball out onto the field. The pokeball hit the ground and released a Weavile. "Ok Myrtenaster, ready up!" Weiss called out.

Patting Crescent Rose on her head, Ruby looked down and said, "Ok Cress, let's go beat this brat." Cress nodded before getting up and leaping onto the battlefield, crouching low to the ground and growling at Myrtenaster.

For a moment there was no movement on the field. Both trainers were sizing each other up and both pokemon were waiting on a command. Finally, Weiss broke the silence.

''Myrtenaster, Ice Beam." Weiss called out. Immediately the Weavile opened its mouth and fired a beam of ice at Crescent Rose.

"Cress, dodge it and use Quick Attack!" Crescent Rose got out of the way of the attack just in time and rushed towards Myrtenaster, slamming into it and sending it sprawling to the ground. Crescent Rose skidded to a halt and turned back to face Myrtenaster, waiting for the next attack

Weiss, still looking confident, crosses her arms and says "Myrtenaster, get up and use Metal Claw." In the blink of an eye Myrtenaster appeared in front of Cress and swiped at her face. Crescent Rose was sent flying backwards, hitting the ground hard. After a few seconds Cress stood up with some difficulty and squared off with Myrtenaster once again.

"Cress, are you ok?" Ruby called out. Crescent Rose nodded and answered with an "Ab-absol!" in response, not taking her eyes off of Myrtenaster. "Good." Ruby said, "Use Swords Dance and then hit her again with a Quick Attack!" Crescent Rose spun and jumped around, her muscles visibly bulging before speeding towards Myrtenaster again.

Before Crescent Rose could make it though, Weiss called out, "Myrtenaster, use Ice Beam and freeze the ground at its feet." Myrtenaster fired and froze the ground Crescent Rose was running on. Cress slipped and landed hard, losing all its momentum. "Now, Metal Claw." Weiss said. Myrtenaster jumped and slammed a metal claw into her, knocking her out and ending the battle.

"Cress!" Ruby yelled. Grabbing her pokeball, Ruby returned Crescent Rose and looked over to where Weiss was standing, congratulating her Weavile. "I hope you're satisfied." Ruby said, frowning. She then turned and started making her way back to the Pokemon Center. Watching her go, Weiss felt slightly ashamed for letting her anger get the better of her, but she was overall pleased with her Myrtenasters performance. "You've done well. Maybe this will change Father's mind. Come on, let's return home." Weiss says before returning her Weavile to it's pokeball and starting the long walk back to the Schnee Family Estate.

Wow, hi. It's been about three or four years since the last time this was updated I think, I don't quite remember and I don't really care enough to check. For the few of you who do actually read this chapter I want to apologize for how much time it took to write a little under two thousand words, and I'll be honest this could be a LOT better than what it actually is. Most of the time away from this I spent going through high school and now that I've graduated and we're all stuck inside, I decided to finish this chapter at the very least.

As for other chapters I honestly have no clue, because motivation to write comes at the oddest times for me. I'm typing this out at 2:20 in the morning and I haven't felt this excited to write in years, so I might just type chapter six out now too. I won't promise any kind of release date for the next chapter, and honestly I don't know if I'll ever write it. For anyone who does still read this, thank you for sticking with this story after the longest hiatus I've taken yet.

On the topic of thanking, thanks to all of Division 502 for getting me so into writing, and especially Archer for handing me this story and letting me do my own thing with it. I honestly have no clue where he wanted to take this, but I want to try my best to give this story justice. To finish off this lengthy AN, I want to say goodnight or good morning or whenever you guys are reading this and stay safe. The world is scary right now, so don't go licking airplane toilet seats for fun.
