Episode 21: Thor VS Raiden (EMH VS MK8/9)

Everyone watched the screen as the Zeta Tube suddenly lit up. From the platform, a man in a red and gold costume with a white cape stepped into the room. Seeing the others, he smiled and waved.

Recognized: Captain Marvel A05

The teens and several adults blinked in confusion at the arrival of the kid turned champion. They were still getting used to knowing Captain Marvel was a kid.

"Hey! What are all of you guys doing here? Did I forget it was game night again?" His eyes drifted to the Dark Knight. "Batman, you finally got invited. That's great!"

Diana blinked. "Uh, not really, Marv... Billy."

Marvel sighed. "Come on, Wonder Woman. Are you still on that? I said I was sorry."

"Uh, hey, Captain," waved Robin.

"Sup, Robin. So, what are you all doing if it's not game night?"

"Shouldn't you be telling us why you're here first?" asked Artemis. "Isn't it already past your curfew?

"I'll have you know my curfew is at nine since school is still out, so I'm not in trouble." Marvel continued walking to the kitchen, opening one of the cabinets and munching on some cereal. "We're kinda low on snacks at the house right now." He gestured to them in the living room. "So..?"

The teens shared looks with the adults.

"I'm cool with it," shrugged Conner.

"Uh," Oliver began. "It's more of a movie night sorta thing."

"Really? Cool." Marvel made a snack bowl for himself before walking to a seat. "What are we watching?"

Zatanna raised a brow. "You want to join us?"

"It's a bit violent," countered Megan.

Marvel shrugged. "So? You guys are letting Robin stay, and he's only a few years older than me."

"True. You've probably seen worse in horror movie trailers. You should be fine. The fight is animated, after all," defended Artemis.

None of the adults were either his parent or his mentor, so they didn't have any say on what he can or can't watch.

Bruce seemed neutral on the situation. Oliver was okay with it. Clark was reluctant. Dinah was neutral, knowing that watching violent media doesn't cause violent behavior. They all looked at the tie-breaking hero.

Diana pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "You can watch it with us if you want, but you must follow your guardian's curfew."

"Sweet!" Marvel pumped a fist in the air and got comfortable with a fistful of chips.

"On with the show, I guess." Wally pressed play for the last episode of Death Battle for today. After they mentioned Netflix again, the video started playing, showing two men fighting each other while they controlled lightning all over the area.

(Cues Invader - Jim Johnston)

"The gods of thunder might be eternal, but in a Death Battle, only one can leave the ring alive."

"The mighty Thor, Prince of Asgard..."

"...and Lord Raiden, defender of Earthrealm."

The room was both interested and excited to see them introduce gods of other pantheons. While Kratos was possibly justified in his crusade against his extended family, they would like to see more benevolent gods.

The man child grinned wide. "Woah! Are we going to see other gods fight? Cool!"

"He's Wiz, and I'm Boomstick."

"And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle."

The first contestant is a very tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular man with long blond hair, and blue eyes. He wears a silver winged helmet, a red cape, black armor with silver circles, red wristbands, a large golden belt, blue tights, and golden shoes.

While some of the guys looked at the man in awe, Zatanna, Artemis, and Dinah couldn't help but blush at the literal god bod before them.

"He pulls off the helmet and armor. Maybe I should get one too," said Billy.

"That dude is jacked!" exclaimed Wally.

"He's like a Dorito chip." Oliver rolled his eyes while trying to puff up his chest without anyone noticing.

Thor

(Cues Thor (2011) - Sons of Odin)

"According to Norse mythology, Thor is a god of many things: Thunder, lightning, strength, protection, fertility, and... oak trees? Huh. Really? Well, at least he's not some tree-hugging hippie. Thor's still a badass in my book."

Marvel looked on at the Norse counterpart. "Huh. He's like Zeus, then."

"Wait, isn't Thor supposed to have red hair?" asked Robin, remembering the image from social studies.

"It's likely the records are simply inaccurate when it comes to the more mythological areas," answered Kaldur. "I can attest that Plato's Timaeus and Critias had taken some creative liberties on some aspects of the city."

Diana nodded. "I haven't met the Norse gods, but the blonde hair does suit him."

"I guess it makes sense for him to be a god of trees and fertilizer." No one wanted to correct Billy on that particular topic.

BACKGROUND

Full Name: Thor Odinson the Mighty

Universe 8096

Race: Asgardian

Age: At least 1000 years

Height: 6'6"

Weight: 640 Ibs.

Guardian of Midgard AKA Earth

"Thor Odinson, as the name would suggest, is the son of Odin, the All-Father of Asgard. Surprisingly, his birth mother is Jord, Earth's Elder Goddess, also known as Gaea."

Many of them were surprised by the intimidating presence of the white-haired god. Diana noted how the man looked similar to Zeus.

"Gaea? Isn't she one of the Greek Titans from before?" asked Artemis.

"This must be one of those times that one god has different names for different religions," deduced Clark.

Wonder Woman was surprised at the connection and wondered if there were similar instances here.

"The family tree is even more complicated," joked Wally.

Marvel raised a brow. "Wouldn't that make Thor Zeus's uncle and both gods of lightning?"

Oliver blinked at the thought. "That's pretty cool."

SUPERHUMAN ABILITIES

Super Strength

Superhuman Durability

Can Survive in Space and Underwater

Godly Stamina

Immunity to Mortal Ailments

"It shows because this guy's a powerhouse. He has godly strength, can survive in space and underwater, and has lived for centuries."

Marvel raised a brow in interest. "Kind of the same can be said about Black Adam and me. He's from Ancient Egypt."

"Maybe you'll learn something new," suggested Zatanna.

"This Dude is a tank. He's resisted heat, cold, Gamma and Solar Radiation, and an explosion with an Earth-sized blast radius. You shouldn't expect less when god bangs the Earth."

The group was not surprised by his natural abilities. It made sense that they would be durable and long-lived, but they still didn't know to what extent. Some were shocked that he survived all types of dangers. Megan would love to have those defenses.

Wally placed a hand to his chin. "That's pretty insane since Gamma radiation kills cells and damages DNA."

Conner snorted. "Gods don't need to worry about illness. People pray to them for medicine."

Artemis looked down and crossed her arms. 'Can the Greek Gods help with spinal injuries?'

"While Thor is not invulnerable, he is augmented by his godly status and a fraction of the all-powerful Odin Force sealed within Mjolnir, his enchanted hammer."

They are shown a close-up of a small hammer.

Marvel frowned. "I expected more for a godly weapon."

Diana raised a hand. "Just wait. Even the Titan Cronos wielded a Sickle."

"That's his weapon? That thing is way so tiny! Might as well call him the god of whack-a-mole. He-"

The group watched as Thor used Mjolnir to destroy a large section of New York with a single blast.

Billy looked at the lightning surge with wide-eyes. "Woah..."

"Such magic," muttered Zatanna.

"WHOA! Oh shit! That was amazing!"

"Damn right, it was," laughed Conner.

"Wait a minute!" exclaimed Clark. "Why did he blow up part of a city?"

"I think it's safe to assume that the entire area was evacuated before he blasted the ground," added Kaldur. "Still... who is the enemy?"

"That guy, likely," answered Bruce, who pointed back at the screen.

From the center of the crater, a bearded man in a blue jumpsuit falls to his knees in pain.

Robin dropped his jaw. "How did he even survive that?!"

Zatanna huffed. "His opponents are no joke."

"Man, I gotta try that," grinned Marvel

"No. No, you won't," chastised Diana. "Your blessings from Olympus shouldn't be used frivolously.

MJOLNIR

Means "Crusher"

Forged from Uru

Bound to Thor

Flight

Unbreakable

Control Lightning and the Weather

Hypersonic Flight

Create Portals

(Cues: Thor (2011) - Prologue)

"Mjolnir is mystically bound to Thor and obeys his mental commands."

Diana, Kaldur, and Zatanna knew that mystical artifacts would have caveats to fit their users.

"There are different reasons for its rather small size. For one, if it were any larger, it would be too uneven to wield."

"So it's not the size of the hammer, it's how he uses it!"

"I understand the hammerhead, but what about the handle?" asked Wally. "It would look more like a sledgehammer if it were longer, and he would have better leverage."

"Considering Thor's strength, I don't think that'll be an issue," replied Clark. "I've used hammers similar to that back home."

Billy shrugged. "It looks more portable, easily fitting on his waist."

"This magical hammer is made of Uru metal crafted by the dwarf King Eitri on Nornheim. With it, he is given even more godly power such as flight, weather control, and lightning control."

They are shown a storm that covers North America.

"That's huge."

Megan raised a brow. "Nornheim?"

"It probably one of the areas in Asgard," answered Bruce.

"Yeah. Screw a sword and shield. I'll take that war hammer on the spot. Where can I get one?"

"Mjolnir is magically protected by Odin's spell. It can only be lifted if the person is worthy enough to wield it."

The hammer is shown on the ground with the inscription on the side glowing. "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor!"

Kaldur smiled. He admired the King's choice to control who wields such great power. Not anyone can steal and use it.

"Aww. What does that even mean?"

"So anybody can become like Thor if they can lift the hammer?" asked Conner.

"That's just like King Arthur and the sword in the stone," added Oliver.

"It's not exactly clear, but we assume it includes humility and self-sacrifice since Thor was originally exiled on Earth because of his arrogance."

Captain Marvel put a hand to his chin in thought. 'If the Wizard thought I was worth to receive his magic which came from the Greek Gods, would I be worthy enough to use Mjolnir from the Norse Gods?'

"Well, that sucks. In any case, people have said that the best defense is a good offense, and Mjolnir fits that to a 'T.' Since it's practically unbreakable, Thor uses it as a shield to plow through enemy attacks."

"I can't fault that use of his weapon," chuckled Dinah. "If it works, it works."

"Thor has fought many of the most powerful warriors in his world. This includes Frost Giants, Graviton, the Hulk, and Galactus, the World Eater."

While the room wasn't familiar with those beings, the latter sounded quite impressive.

Oliver sighed. "I'd pray to any gods that we don't have to deal with something like that."

Diana nodded. "Sounds like something from the wrath of Titans."

"I'm fine dealing with criminal masterminds and occasional terrorists," stated Robin.

"Remember that large energy blast from earlier, scaling the size of the buildings to the crater Thor made, such an explosion would need to be worth at least 750 Kilotons of TNT."

"That's not all. When a portion of New York fell from the sky, Thor slowed it down."

Wally's jaw dropped. "Holy crap!"

Captain Marvel sweatdropped. 'I'm starting to understand why the wizard warned me of the power.'

Robin turned to Zatanna. "Do you think your dad can do something like that with Nabu?"

Zatanna shrugged. "Probably. Nabu said that if he was brought back earlier, he could have stopped the Yellowstone eruption easily."

"While Thor is a master of armed and unarmed combat, he seems to heavily rely on his hammer, using it for his strongest attacks."

"Considering that he's not as powerful without it, it's pretty stupid to keep seeing him throwing the damn thing, even if it flies back. Does this god have an Achilles heel?"

Ignoring the irony of that name, Billy was still trying to think of ways to use his lightning without transforming back to normal.

"I guess that's how he gets around using it with a short handle," commented Wally.

Clark shrugged. "With his strength and it coming back to him, it's not a bad way to fight."

"Aside from a few exceptions, he has managed without his hammer's power. While he has no specific physical weaknesses, he still suffers from lingering arrogance and eagerness to fight, often ignoring obvious dangers."

Bruce huffed. "If someone can get their hands on the hammer and prove themselves worthy during the fight, it would turn around on Thor."

"True, but what are the chances of him fighting an enemy like that?"

"If anyone in this room is worthy, it's gotta be Wonder Woman," whispered Dinah to Oliver.

"It's no contest," he replied.

"Eh. Thor's an Asgardian. After fights, it's his tradition to eat mutton and drink surrounded by the warriors and Valkyries. He is someone I can get behind!"

"I could go for a feast after missions," snarked Wally.

Conner smirked. "Same."

Artemis nudged his arm. "You two would blow our budget in less than a month."

The screen shows a large being in purple armor fire eye lasers at a blonde woman with glowing hands. She manages to absorb the attack and fire back. An ally of hers in a dark battle armor fire his energy beam at the threat.

Not even phased, the being once again fires eye lasers sending both attackers to the ground.

From behind and overturned car, they see Spiderman swing to someone else as the giant walks away. "It's the end of the world! I'm freaking out, why aren't you freaking out?"

"Dude. It's Spiderman!" pointed Robin.

Marvel blinked in confusion at the red and blue hero on the screen. "Who?"

"Uh... nothing," the boy wonder replied. "You wouldn't get it."

"Okay... but who's that other guy?"

"I don't know," answered Clark. "But I like his suit."

'Of course, you would,' thought the others in the room.

The other man was in a red, white, and blue uniform with a complementing round shield. The man looked on in the distance. "Because I can hear it."

"Hear what?"

"Thunder."

Up above, dark clouds fill the city-scape. They crackle before they unleashed about a dozen bolts of nature's wrath. Each of them struck the giant with extreme prejudice, forcing the being to his knee.

"Dear Zeus," muttered Diana.

"That was amazing!" cheered Billy.

When the bolts stopped, he got back up, looking for the attacker.

Thor descends from the storm. With a roar, he throws his energized hammer at the invader, striking dead center in his chest. Once again, the cosmic being is brought down. Thor is shown floating in the air in the middle of a thunderstorm with Mjolnir returning to his hand. "Hear me, Galactus. I am Thor the Thunderer, son of Odin, prince of Asgard. But today, above all things, I am an Avenger, and this world is under my protection!"

"Now, that's badass," remarked Oliver.

Overall, Thor seemed like a nice God. He used his power to protect the people and the world he cared about. Diana was very interested in his Norse God culture and how it differed from what she read. Maybe she would ask her mother about Gaia and of any connections to other pantheons. The greeks haven't done much in communicating with other Pantheons. A lot of the guys liked his weather powers and Mjolnir. Each of them wondered about how to become worthy in the eyes of Odin. Dinah and Oliver hoped to see more of his combat prowess in the later fight. Clark saw a bit of himself in Thor. He, too, needed a bit of an attitude adjustment even in adulthood. While Bruce commended his strength, seeing a city get blasted didn't help his lingering paranoia.

Now it was time to see the next godly combatant.

The next one was a tall and slender god that wore a white and blue combat attire. He had blue, glowing eyes and wore a straw Chinese coolie hat. He stood stoically with hands behind his back. His expression is one of wisdom and experience.

Raiden

(Cues Parotoe - Mortal Kombat Theme *Metal*)

"According to Japanese myth and Shinto belief, Raiden is a god of lightning, thunder, and storms."

Marvel was trying to remember if the Egyptians had a thunder god of sorts for Black Adam.

"There sure are a lot of gods for thunder and lightning," remarked Megan.

"The Greeks have Zeus, the Romans have Jupiter, and the Norse have Thor," Oliver surmised.

Marvel never got a chance to ask the wizard why he used Mercury and not Hermes for the naming along with who Solomon was.

Artemis nodded along. "The Vietnamese gods of thunder and lightning are Thiên Lôi and La Sát." Some of her friends raised a brow at the info. She coughed into her fist. "My grandmother was very traditional. As a kid, she told me that they punish the wicked. I didn't believe her at the time, but in hindsight, I should reconsider."

"Parents would tell their children to hide during thunderstorms so that Raiden doesn't take them away and eat them."

"Mmm, child haggis. Mom always knew how to make them tender."

"Why would they tell their kids that?" asked Marvel. "That's just mean."

"It's just something that parents do for fun," replied Zatanna.

BACKGROUND

Full Name: Lord Raiden

Height: 7'

Weight: 350 Ibs.

Age: Over tens of thousands of years old.

Protector of Earthrealm

Martial Arts Mastery

- Jujitsu, Nan Chuan, Judo, Taekwondo

Weaponry: Japanese bō staff and War Hammer

"Under the guidance of the Elder Gods, Raiden is the protector of Earthrealm, defending the realm from the likes of Shao Kahn and Onaga from Outworld."

The screen shows two beings. One seems to be a tall human wearing a warlord helmet, pads, and gauntlets with spikes and a skull-like design. The other was a tall bipedal green dragon. Frankly, they looked like the type for conquest. The room wasn't sure what Outworld was, but they assumed it was either an alien planet or another dimension.

"Isn't he the guy that Shang Tsung works for?" asked Megan.

Marvel frowned. "Am I missing something?"

Kaldur nodded. "There were other episodes we watched before this one."

"Oh, cool. You gotta let me see the other ones."

The Atlantean looked to the others who were unsure. "We will see."

"Not much is known about his origins, but all we need to know for now is that he can kick ass. Using his godly lightning, he supercharges his mastered fighting styles."

"While he has been shown using a wooden staff or a war hammer, he generally fights unarmed. Thanks to Raiden's diverse fighting styles, he can apply them in ways to take down all sorts of opponents."

Most of the room was interested in knowing his fighting skills since Thor didn't seem to have any specific techniques. The martial artists in the room were hoping to incorporate something new in their arsenal.

"As one would expect, this thunder god has many lightning-based moves, like classic lightning bolts, the Electric Fly, and the Vicinity Blast."

Bruce and Robin ended up on the same wave-length, regarding taser gauntlets and disruptors.

Diana was still trying to test Zeus's blessings within her bracelets. She could feel the essence within, but she couldn't harness it just yet.

Billy was the only one to voice his opinions. "Do you think I could do that."

The Amazon crossed her arms. "Even with your blessed wisdom, there is always more to learn. Perhaps you should take the time to train with us sometimes."

"Really?" he beamed.

Dinah joined the discussion. "Let's talk to your guardian later before we make anything final."

While Marvel was excited to learn from them, the other teens felt pity for his ignorance of the brutal training they went through.

"When he needs to get fatal, Raiden fills opponents with so much electricity that they explode from the boiling blood."

They saw Raiden grab onto an opponent and discharged so much electricity that his opponent exploded.

A lot of them blanched at the brutal execution like in the movies. It must be horrible to have your blood boil to the point the body pops like a balloon.

Billy cringed a bit at the exploding head. 'These special effects are very good.'

"It's been speculated that the sheer power of these lightning attacks causes him to spout out random gibberish."

They see Raiden spouting syllables as he torpedos into his opponent. It reminded Billy of those old Kung fu movie re-runs.

"Raiden is composed of ethereal energy and can morph it into various forms of electrical energy. With this trait, he gains teleportation, flight, and extreme endurance."

"I don't think we ever met energy being before," remarked Clark.

Bruce shook his head. "Hal and John mentioned meeting a few similar species while on duty. They vary in terms of energy composition."

After seeing Thor and Raiden being able to teleport, Marvel wanted to try it as well.

"And like any other thunder god, Raiden has all sorts of control over the weather and lightning."

"Raiden can even channel electricity through a wooden staff, which is scientifically impossible."

"Haha. Take that, Bill Nye!"

Wally made a face. He loved those re-runs. "Unless the wood was damp or covered in polishing oil, that shouldn't happen."

Artemis laughed. "He's a god. At this point, this is pretty tame."

"He is one of the most powerful beings in the realms, successfully defending Earth for centuries. He eventually became a more powerful Elder God of Earthrealm, but relinquished this power to protect the people of Earth."

"Wait. What? That doesn't make any sense."

"Gods can become higher gods?" questioned Megan.

"Something like that," replied Zatanna. "Gods can ascend or descent to different states depending on certain conditions."

"There are reasons why there are different hierarchal structures across different beliefs," added Robin.

"While he is an immortal, formless god, he is not indestructible and has limits. To fight among others, he must take a form susceptible to mortality."

"The dude can blow up an entire palace."

They see Raiden and two others battling the one called Onaga. In a last-ditch effort, Raiden self-destructed, blowing up everything. Unfortunately, Onaga was still left standing.

"That's sad," remarked Marvel. "He sacrificed his body but couldn't take the evil dragon guy down."

"I'm sure they found a way to take him down eventually," consoled Kaldur.

"Scaling the heights of other fighters to the inner passageways and factoring hollowness, we estimate the blast yield to be at least 4.5 Kilotons of TNT."

Zatanna nodded. "Well, he's not permanently dead. So he has that going for him."

"I can't even imagine the damage a fight in his true form would cause," exasperated Oliver.

"Successfully defending Earthrealm against impossible odds, Raiden proved his leadership and wisdom in battle. He is a cunning and daring strategist, willing to make whatever sacrifices are necessary to achieve victory."

"You can't intentionally put the lives of others on the line for your own goals." While Bruce acknowledged the god's mindset, he was wary, as there had to be a line in that philosophy. "Ends should never justify the means."

Raiden held back a Shaolin monk from confronting Shao Kahn. "Have faith in the Elder Gods... have faith in me."

Wally frowned. "From the way things have been progressing with Raiden, he's asking for a lot."

Overall, Raiden looked to be a skilled fighter and possibly more experienced. Batman appreciated the extent of his master of Jujitsu. The teens were impressed by his incorporation of martial arts and lightning. The Speedsters could become master assassins if they used their speed to a deadly degree of skill and precision.

With his connection to the Greek Gods, Billy hoped to have a similar standing as Raiden, protecting the innocent and those he cared about from bad people. Diana and Clark were thankful that there were gods out there who would defend the innocent.

"Alright, the combatants are set. Let's end this debate once and for all."

"But first, my free trial of Netflix ran out, so here's another one!"

Both thunder gods were quite similar in their element, but they had different methods of execution. Thor's fighting style seemed less refined in comparison, but he made up for it with overwhelming power. On the other hand, Raiden seemed more pragmatic about his battles. Raiden could outsmart Thor, but it wasn't clear if he could overcome his natural defenses.

Bruce appreciated Raiden's fighting mastery. "At its core, Jujutsu uses the opponent's force against themselves rather than your own."

"That would be useful against someone like Thor," replied Dinah.

In the end, Billy, Diana, Conner, Artemis, and Zatanna voted for Thor, and the others voted for Raiden.

"It's time for a Death Battle!"

Sky Temple, Earthrealm

The simulations showed a large multi-level temple in the mountains during the day.

Billy's eyes went wide. "Wow. That thing is so tall we can't even see the bottom from this angle."

"It's reminiscent of some depictions of Olympus," commented Diana.

Kaldur smirked. "Considering that Raiden is analogous to Zeus, that makes some sense."

At the top of the temple, Raiden is shown meditating in front of a dragon mural. Nearby, his War Hammer is mounted in the center of the floor.

Suddenly dark clouds begin to form above. Lightning crackled before bolting down to the roof, each of them drawn to the Goldy weapon like a lightning rod. With a final flash of electricity, Thor, the Thunderer, appeared in a kneeling position. He raised his head with a heated gaze toward the other thunder, god. "Raiden."

The Japanese deity ended his meditation and rose to his feet. "Thor."

Thor pointed Mjolnir at him accusingly. "Explain yourself. You were entrusted to protect Midgard. Do you have any idea how many innocent lives were lost?"

"I guess they know of each other in the simulation," Artemis smirked. "It looks like Raiden is getting karma for what he did to protect Earthrealm."

"Don't you think I know that!" Raiden yelled. "The Elder Gods had spoken. Shao Kahn's invasion had not broken the rules of the Tournament. My actions were the only way to get them to intervene and prevent armageddon. I had foreseen it in my visions!"

"The end of the world?" asked Zatanna.

Clark glowered. "That's still no excuse of putting your friends and allies in unnecessary danger."

"In your attempt to prevent one future, you may have created a worse one. Had you been stronger, you would not have needed the Elder God's aid in the first place. Asgard is not bound by the rules of your elder gods. It is through Odin's wisdom and power that we thrive."

"We've seen that type of thing happen in a lot of time travel movies," added Oliver. "Trying to prevent something tends to make things worse."

"Don't think you are innocent here." Raided grumbled. "You and your people allowed the demon Surtur to escape. He is just as much a threat as Shao Kahn."

Thor sighed in acknowledgment. "I am aware of the threat. When Ragnarok comes for us, we shall be prepared."

"What's Ragnarok?" asked Megan.

"It's the Norse version of the end and rebirth," answered Robin.

Thor took a solemn breath. "I know about Sindel and the revenants. Dammit, she killed her daughter!"

That was certainly a shock to the room. What could have happened to cause a mother to kill her daughter? Some thought of mind control. Others thought she was plain evil from the start.

Raiden grit his teeth. "It was an accident and an unfortunate loss."

"Really? That's all you have to say about that?" hissed Dinah.

"But at what cost, Raiden. Cities burned in ruins. In Odin's name, I will not let you continue on this path. Return to your Elder Gods. Let them know that Midgard shall be under my protection from now on."

Wally agreed. "Frankly, that's probably for the best." The rest of the room shared the same sentiment.

While Marvel never heard of this series before, he agreed that Raiden was doing a pretty bad job as a protector if all that happened.

Raiden stuck a finger at the blonde. "That is not for you to decide!"

"Perhaps not through words alone. I challenge you for the title as the defender of this realm."

"Then we shall settle this dispute like gods. Through Kombat!" Raiden immediately got into a fighting stance along with Thor.

"Is that really how disputes are settled?" asked Conner.

Diana sighed. "More often than you would like."

In any case, there was general excitement in the room to see which thunder god will reign supreme.

FIGHT!

(Cues Mortal Kombat Deception - Sky Temple Theme)

Raiden initiates the fight by shooting several bolts of electricity as he backed up.

With swings of his hammer, Thor effortlessly blocked them.

Seeing this, Raiden fired. While one bolt was blocked, the second struck Thor from behind.

"Where did the second attack come from?" asked Oliver.

Clark shrugged. "Maybe it came from the clouds."

Thor glares as he spins Mjolnir before launching it at the other thunder god.

Raiden quickly teleported out of the way with Thor's weapon that was soon coming back to its owner. Raiden then appears behind the man and unleashed a series of striking combos, finishing with an uppercut that brings Thor into the air. Seeing his opening, Raiden continues his assault. He teleports and attacks from multiple angles, managing to stay ahead of his opponent, before throwing Thor to the ground and knocking him away with Vicinity Blast, a close-range anti-air blast of electricity.

Many were astounded by the chain of attacks Raiden performed. Each one flowed to the next. If one attack brought Thor to a vulnerable position in the air, the next attacks capitalized on it while keeping him vulnerable.

"Raiden knows how to never to let an opening go unused," said Kaldur.

Marvel smirked. "That uppercut set everything up."

Thor crashes to the floor only to stand back up soon after. "Have at thee!" Using Mjolnir, he summons the power of storms. Thor raised his hammer, charged with electricity. "Mighty Spark!" Thor shoots lightning at Raiden.

As the energy makes contact with the god, his arms move in a flowing motion, channeling the power through him without substantial taking damage. He manages to combine the attack power with his own for a redirected counter-attack.

Many were surprised at Raiden's application of Jujutsu and his lightning control.

"Instead of letting the energy discharge through him and into the ground, he continued the circuit traveling through his body and amplifying it before sending it back. Quite clever," deduced Bruce.

"If I could do that with Jujutsu too, that would be amazing!" glowed Marvel. If he did that, he wouldn't need to risk transforming back and using his magical lightning as a directed attack.

Like a make-shift shield, the spinning war hammer stops its element. Thor raises his hammer and smashes the ground, causing the entire structure to quake. When Raiden was momentarily staggered at the center of the roof, pillars of lightning rained down upon him. Not losing the momentum, Thor shot more beams of electricity from his hammer forward, causing the area to explode.

Conner frowned. "Is it over already?"

"I wouldn't be so sure." Diana saw what was within Raiden's reach.

When the smoke dissipated, Raiden was shown wielding his war hammer, arcing with electricity. With great speed, he performs a Lightning Dash, rushing at Thor and shoulder bashing him while simultaneously electrocuting him. Raiden swung his weapon down, sending Thor through the floor and into the room below.

Recovering from the blow, Thor smirked at the other god drawing a weapon similar to his own. They rushed at each other, and the two weapons collided. Each strike released a massive discharge of electricity and shockwaves. The storm above them grew even worse. Random bolts set fire to the exposed wood. Papers and debris swirled all around them. The final strike ended with the two crossing handles.

"Holy crap!" muttered Wally.

Diana crossed her arms in amusement. "We shouldn't expect less for a battle of gods."

Clark was glad that he didn't have to deal with magic users like this so far.

Billy was too engrossed in the fight to care about anything else.

If one took a closer look at Raiden's weapon, they would see the hairline fractures spreading across its face. Slowly, Thor pressing down on him, forcing Raiden on one knee wh attempting to hold back Mjolnir. Thor then kicked Raiden down flat on the ground.

Before Raiden could get back up, a weight fell on his chest. Looking at the object, Raiden saw Mjolnir resting on his body. No matter how much he pushed himself or the hammer, he couldn't budge.

The room laughed at the seemingly obvious abuse of Mjolnir's enchantment.

Dinah held back her laughter. "Huh... Who knew that could be a viable tactic."

Bruce raised a brow. "If only the worthy can lift the hammer, then whatever is underneath is kept in place as well."

"I doubted that Raiden would be worthy of moving it," snarked Zatanna.

'I wonder if the Wizard will let me have a staff or something,' thought Marvel.

They saw Thor pick up Raiden's war hammer and crushed it with his bare hand. "Yield, Raiden."

"No! I won't give up Earthrealm so easily!" If he couldn't move the hammer, then he had to move without it. Raiden teleports away, causing Mjolnir to drop to the ground before returning to the Asgardian. Raiden reappeared behind Thor and fired two electric bolts while jumping back.

Thor knocked both aside and then kicked Raiden back to the rooftop, followed by a powerful blow with his knee. Raiden grabbed onto the incoming leg and used the momentum to throw the god overhead.

"Excellent reversal," commented Kaldur.

Megan crossed her arms. "Raiden needs to make a comeback if he's going to pull through."

Thor's rough landing caused Raiden to stumble. With the opening, Thor grabbed him, headbutted him, and then slammed him to the floor.

Raiden instantly got back into the fight, teleported behind, and launched a large surge of electricity at Thor, leaving him a bit stunned. Raiden teleported in front of him and sent several blows and a roundhouse kick. Raiden warped behind Thor and punched him in the spine. Raiden lifted Thor overhead and sent electricity into him, followed by another punch and a Vicinity Blast. Seeing an opening, he flew at Thor while spouting gibberish, pushing him through the temple railing and down to the lower balcony.

"Raiden's not holding back his combat flow," said Robin. He reminisced of the times that he would try to fight to a beat when taking down goons in Gotham. Maybe he and Wally should make a beatdown music video.

"We're reaching the finale," cheered Conner.

Recovering, Thor jumped back and called a tornado. Thor tried to attack, but Raiden uppercut him into the air, and the two proceeded to trade blows until Raiden used his Shocking Touch. Raiden pulled out his bo staff and struck true, stabbing his opponent in the chest, lifting him, and sending more electricity through. Unfortunately, Thor was still capable of fighting. In a rage, Raiden sent a variety of punches, kicks, and chops before grabbing the large man and delivering intense shock through his body. While Thor was still off the ground, he delivered punches and a Vicinity Blast. Raiden blasts Thor with electricity, then teleports behind him to elbow them in the back. He then teleports in front of him, karate-chopping his skull. He finished his assault by creating a ball of electricity that blows down the dazed god.

"Damn. If all that didn't work, then Raiden is done for," huffed Wally.

Suddenly, the skies darkened even further. The wind around them blew faster and faster. Raiden turned to look at the fallen Thor only to see an enraged one, eyes crackling with lightning.

"He's done it now."

"Bring down the hammer!" yelled Robin and Conner, much to the other's amusement.

Thor jumped with his hammer, tackling Raiden into the air then smashing him down with Mjolnir. Thor's body charged with energy, and he lunged forward with his hammer. "Feel Heaven's wrath!" Mjolnir makes contact below Raiden's stomach, destroying his entire lower body.

A collective "Ooh" echoed through the cave. Everyone cringed in one form or another at the brutal hit.

Marvel, Megan, and Zatanna gagged a bit at the blood and guts effect.

The upper half of Raiden fell to the ground in pain as blood squirted out of his body. "By the Elder Gods!"

"I can't believe Raiden's still alive," started Oliver.

"It's do or die for him," concluded Clark.

On his back, Raiden brought both of his arms together to charge up a ball of lightning. "I will give everything I have."

"He's not gonna..." started Robin.

"He is," finished Bruce.

Understanding the tone of the defeated god, Thor had a good idea of what was coming.

"Hara-Kiri!" In a flash, the energy ball expanded over the entire temple, engulfing it in blue light.

Billy looked at the screen in disbelief. "Raiden bombed his building just to stop Thor."

"He is lax about acceptable losses," dryly stated Dinah.

As the scene faded back into view, they were astounded at the lone figure in the middle of the rubble. The familiar winged helmet rose. Thor raised his hammer to the heavens in victory. "For Asgard!"

THOR WINS!

K.O!

Soon those on Thor's side cheered at the victory, while those who voted for Raiden clapped their respects.

"All that destruction, I love it!"

RAIDEN

Smart, but Much Weaker

Resistant to Electricity

Versatile Fighting Styles

Relies on Electrical Attacks

"Raiden is a clever and versatile combatant, but while Raiden's mastery of Jujutsu allowed him to use some of Thor's attacks against him, there's a limit to what Raiden could counter without failing."

"Besides, Thor had taken a fair share of his attacks before and still stood strong."

Bruce nodded in agreement. "I had my hopes, but it was an expected outcome without proper preparations made. Jujutsu was developed to defeat an armed and armored opponent, but skills without the right power behind it can still be lacking during intense situations."

"Think of it like redirecting a snowball compared to redirecting an avalanche," continued Dinah.

The others agreed with the description. The glass cannons in the group considered learning some of the art forms to at least hold their ground against people like Bane or Blockbuster.

THOR

Stronger, Tougher, and Faster

Resistant to Electricity

Does Not Solely Rely on Electrical Attacks

Mjolnir is Ridiculously Powerful

Arrogance Only Prolonged the Fight

"While both combatants were comparable in speed with each other, it doesn't help that Raiden's main weapon, electricity, was relatively useless. The same can be said about Thor to an extent, but he still makes up for it with his physical strength."

"Remember, when Thor slowed the descent of that piece of New York? It's estimated to be over eleven billion metric tons. Just slowing its acceleration 1 meter per second per second would require a force equivalent to 3.8 Megatons of TNT, trouncing Raiden's self-destruction resort."

Eyes widened at the gap in power. Thor would easily survive Raiden's last resort.

"It's no wonder he's one of the heavy hitters of the Avengers."

They wondered who the Avengers were, and some assumed that it was a group similar to the Justice League.

"Haha. Well, at least Raiden went out with a bang."

Some of them chuckled at the pun while others sweatdropped.

"The winner is Thor."

Overall, the episode was quite entertaining as they all just saw two different thunder gods fight to the death. Now they saw what was coming up next time.

"Next time on Death Battle."

The group then hears some epic music before showing a strong swordsman with blonde hair and wearing a green tunic, and he wielded an awesome looking sword and shield as he defeats a large number of enemies as his names show.

The music changed, and they saw an advanced city. They saw another blonde-haired man with a spiky hairstyle who wore a sleeveless outfit and wielded a colossal single-edged blade as he fought powerful enemies with his name also shown.

CLOUD

"We're having a swordsman fight!" exclaimed Robin.

Wally knew the hairstyle of the blond. He had to be an anime protagonist.

Marvel cheered as well. "Man, I can't wait to see the next fight and try out some new moves."

Diana glanced at the clock. "Are you sure? Isn't it getting pretty late for you?"

The man in red blinked. "Why, what time is it?"

"Five minutes till nine."

His eyes widened in fear. "Ah! I'm gonna be late!" He bolted to the Zeta Tubes without a second thought. "Bye, guys! Talk to you later!"

Recognized: Captain Marvel A05

With another friend come and gone, they got ready for another episode.

Wally inserted the new disc and pressed play.
