A/N: I'm so glad I decided to watch this show this season, it's the cutest thing I've seen in a while and I love it. tried to go for a relaxing and chill vibe with this story, and hopefully I achieved that. I do plan on continuing it, when I was coming up with ideas I pretty much just thought to myself: what lazy things do I do in my life? Eg: Make my friend block the sunlight for me, call my brother who's down the hall from me to get something from the kitchen cause I don't want to get out of bed etc. So look forward to more chapters of this! Review/Favourite and all that stuff if you feel so inclined, it always makes me happy. :) And if anyone is interested, I also made a version of this story translated into Japanese, so check it out if that seems cool to you. Anyway, Enjoy!
"Ohta, come here for a second." A certain listless boy beckoned to his friend in a quiet voice, not wanting to waste any unnecessary energy on speaking loudly. For a pair of friends as close as these two though, his muffled request was enough to alert Ohta, and bring him across the classroom.
"What is it Tanaka?" The blonde questioned, knowing that it was still too early to carry Tanaka to their next class, and wondering what it could be he was needed for. Instead of answering him though, all the black haired boy did was motion with his right hand for him to move just slightly to the left, and a little bit lower. Ohta did so, but with a questioning expression lining his face, trying to figure out whatever ulterior motive his friend had.
"There's good, can you stay there and tell me about the new sweets shop you mentioned earlier?" Tanaka yawned as he spoke, his eyes only half open.
"Really, you wanted to hear about that? Well it's a bit far from here, but it's definitely worth the trip. I've heard that they have a 70cm tall parfait, and that if you finish it by yourself they'll put your photo up in the shop. Oh, and they have these amazing looking mini-cakes…" The blonde forgot almost immediately about trying to figure out why Tanaka had made him stand in this exact position, and instead fell right into his comfort zone talking about the sweets he loved. He was so absorbed in what he was saying that he didn't even notice when Tanaka laid his arms on his desk and his head on his arms and dozed off. Tanaka always enjoyed the sound of Ohta's voice, and today he had thought of a great idea, or at least, a great idea by Tanaka standards. To make the optimal use of his lunch break, he would have Ohta block the sun that was getting in his eyes, and use his voice as a lullaby to drift off to sleep to. It was a perfect plan. In his dreams, Tanaka went from sitting at the school to sitting at the sweets shop seemingly without moving, and before he even realised it, he was slowly sinking into the huge parfait Ohta had been talking about, taking small bites of the sweetness as he slipped through it, finding the ice cream, fruit and other various layers quite comfortable. As he continued to sleep, and as Ohta continued to talk, Tanaka saw his friend in his dream, his arms reaching down to pull Tanaka out of the parfait and onto his lap.
"Ohta… Ohta you taste so sweet." The boy mumbled in his sleep, bringing a sudden halt to Ohta's ramblings.
"Tanaka?" The blonde questioned, but to no avail, his friend already lost to a deep sleep. If he wanted to, Ohta could force Tanaka to wake up, but he just couldn't find it in himself to do that, especially when it seemed like he was sleeping so peacefully. He couldn't stop himself from wondering just what on earth was happening inside the black haired boys dreams though, and why they lead to such risqué sleep-talking. As he moved to step away from his friend though, he noticed the boys eyes twitching in discomfort, and when he turned around to see the sun shining in through the window behind him, he suddenly realised what Tanaka's earlier motive had been in calling him over.
"You really will do anything that helps you be listless, won't you Tanaka?" He chided at his friend, but was really just talking to himself. As he resigned himself to his fate of sun-blocker for the next half hour or so, he moved back into place with a short sigh. He had a feeling it wouldn't be the most comfortable job, but at least he got to stare unabashedly at his crush for a while, watching the subtle movements of his body as he slept. The wind from outside every so slightly drifting through his silky hair, the slow rise and fall out his chest as he breathed. Considering the kind of life Tanaka led, it wasn't surprising for him to fall asleep in public like this, but it still made Ohta feel special that Tanaka was always so utterly willing to show a vulnerable side to his friend. Over the course of the next half hour Ohta was visited by a few different people, some of them asking if he could help carry some supplies, one of them being Miyano offering some cookies which he gladly accepted, and some of them being friends wanting to wake Tanaka up to ask him something, but Ohta stood guard over his sleeping beauty, refusing to leave his side or let him be awoken. Even when it came time to change classrooms, he simply slung Tanaka gently over his shoulder and made his way across the school. He wasn't sure if he should be as quiet as possible, or if he should talk to the boy; he had noticed that his voice tended to make Tanaka sleepy sometimes. He ended up opting for the latter, and engaged his other friends in a chat so that the boy in his arms could fall under his lullaby. It wasn't until the teacher of their next class called on Tanaka that he was given a rather rude awakening.
"Huh? What's going on?" The boy asked as he rubbed his eyes, the cute scene would've made Ohta instantly forgive whatever transgression Tanaka had committed, but their teacher wasn't as forgiving, scolding the student for sleeping through another class, and insisting that he stand up and answer the question.
"I said, what verb fits into this English sentence? 'She _ to the market yesterday." The answer seemed obvious to Ohta, the teacher had included the word yesterday, so the verb must be the past tense of go, but all his attempts to mime that answer to Tanaka failed abysmally.
"Uhh, she goes to the market yesterday?" Tanaka's answer brought a disappointed sigh to his teacher, who had to explain where the student had gone wrong.
"You had the verb right, but it has to be in the past tense there. As in: 'She went to the market yesterday.' You would know that if you were ever awake during my class! I've half a mind to write you up for an after class detention right now, can you give me any reason why I shouldn't?" The teacher berated his student, but before Tanaka could struggle through a reply, Ohta had already risen from his seat to stand up for his friend.
"I'm really sorry about him sir, I've been having trouble with my math homework lately so Tanaka has been staying up late trying to help me. It's been making him even more tired than usual, do you think you could give him an exception this time and let me take him to the nurses office?" He proclaimed, lying through his teeth. In reality, the situation was exactly the opposite, Ohta had been staying over at Tanaka's house fairly often lately to tutor him, much to the dismay of the listless boys little sister. However, the blondes steady voice and the trust he had built up with his peers served to make his story believable.
"Is that so? That seems out of character for you Ohta, you're usually such a good student. I won't punish you for it this time, but if you do something like this again that prevents other students from learning I'm going to have to take disciplinary action, is that clear?"
"Yes, of course."
"Good, although I trust that you'll be a good enough student that I won't have to do that. Anyway, you can take Tanaka to the nurses office, just try to have him back by next period, ok?" With that, the conversation was over, and Tanaka was wrapped up in the warmth his best friends arms. He stayed silent on the way to the nurses office, still regaining energy from having to stand up and answer a question in class, but as Ohta laid him down to rest on one of the beds, he spoke up in gratitude.
"Thanks for standing up for me Ohta, I didn't know what to say to make him stop yelling at me. Why did you lie to him though?" Tanaka asked in a curious voice, but the question he had asked was an easy one for Ohta to answer.
"Well, I couldn't just not help you, and I knew that if I said that the teacher would forgive you." The blonde answered succinctly. Truthfully, it went further than that. Moreso than just making himself look bad in front of a teacher, Ohta knew that he was willing to do almost anything for Tanaka. He knew it probably wasn't good for his friend to be so dependant on him, but he was so in love with the boy, he just couldn't help himself from doing anything and everything for him.
"You're so smart Ohta, I could never think that quickly on my feet." The tired boy complimented, which lead the pair into a sort of peaceful silence. A minute or so of nothing much, before either of them spoke again.
"Will you stay with me while I'm in here?"
"Sure, do you want me to wake you up in time for next period?"
"Nah, that's ok. I kind of just want to lie down next to you for a while." As he spoke, Tanaka rolled to his side so that he was looking up at Ohta, staring into his gentle eyes. His sudden sweet words and intense gaze threw Ohta off for a moment, rendering him temporarily speechless. He found himself looking away to avoid Tanaka's line of sight, slightly flustered. As he took a deep breath and regained his composure though, he worked up the courage to ask his friend what he had been wondering about for the past 45 minutes or so.
"By the way Tanaka, do you remember what you were dreaming about before? You were talking in your sleep saying something about how sweet I was." He felt nervous trying to get the words out, but he managed to do it without stuttering or anything of the sort. His friendship with Tanaka had always been an easy one to maintain, the two boys just got along so well that he never really had to think about what to say. But ever since he had started thinking of his friend in this new, romantic way, he had found it harder and harder to act like he normally did around him. He harboured a hope inside him that Tanaka felt the same way about him, and every now and then, Ohta could swear that his friend was giving him a sign. Whether that be talking about him in his sleep, or inviting him over to his house for no particular reason other than to just enjoy his company. But despite that, he still had his doubts, and those doubts were currently threatening to overwhelm him, yelling inside his head that he was thinking too much into what he had heard.
"Oh that? I guess since you were talking about the sweets shop when I fell asleep, I started dreaming about it. I was surrounded by lots of yummy things, but you were there too. It's kind of fuzzy to think about now that I'm awake, but the one thing I remember clearly is that at some point you started kissing me. I guess I must've thought you tasted pretty sweet if I was saying that out loud."
"…" Ohta opened his mouth to say something in reply, but this time, words failed him. He had been worrying so much about whether or not his friend might reciprocate his feelings, wondering if it was possible that he liked him back. For weeks now he had been thinking about it, labouring on how best to confess how he felt. And yet, his friend had just so easily and calmly admitted to dreaming about kissing Ohta. Before he could even think of how to respond, he found himself laughing, a genuine smile plastered across his face.
"Ohta?" His friend questioned, but the blonde just kept giggling for a few more seconds before he explained himself.
"I just feel so silly, I've been worrying about this for so long, but you didn't even hesitate to answer me just now. I really should've just been up front with you weeks ago. Tanaka, I really like you. Not as a friend, but in a; I want to be your boyfriend kind of way. I'm really hoping that you having a dream like that means you feel the same." He confessed with a smile on his face and the feeling of a weight lifting off of him. Once he started talking, it just felt like the most natural thing to tell Tanaka how he felt about him.
"Of course I like you like that Ohta." Was all that the listless boy said in response, a sort of dumbfounded look on his face. On multiple occasions in the past he had asked Ohta if he wanted to marry into his family. Sure, his motives might not have purely been for love, he had also been thinking of the benefits of having someone as reliable as Ohta who would carry him and take care of him all his life around. But he never would have said those things for just convenience's sake, he had said them because he really cared about Ohta, and enjoyed spending time with him.
"I thought you knew that, or did you just always think I was joking when I asked you to marry me?" He continued on, and despite being taken back by his friends sheer lack of surprise towards the whole situation, Ohta somehow found himself thinking; 'That is just so Tanaka.'
"I guess I should've taken those comments more seriously then." Ohta retorted, still kind of shocked at how well everything had gone, but finding himself falling back into the easy rhythm of conversation the pair had shared before.
"Do you want to kiss me now then? In the real world instead of a dream this time?" The blonde continued on, and his friend, or rather, his boyfriend nodded back at him. Tanaka had already spoken so much in the last little while, he felt like if he wasted any more of himself on speaking, he would lose the energy to kiss Ohta, and that was something he didn't want to miss out on. Without missing a beat, the blonde bent over and brought his hands to the back of Tanaka's head, gently pulling him closer so their lips could touch. Their kiss was a slow one, an experiment of sorts to see just what it felt like to finally do this together. As he pressed his lips against his crushes, Ohta could feel just how perfectly soft they were, and how good they felt sliding against his own. He had never kissed anyone before, and he was pretty sure Tanaka hadn't either. That thought managed to make the experience even better somehow, which seemed impossible at first. His eyes were shut in bliss, but as he opened them just for a moment to gaze upon his boyfriend, he saw an expression he had never seen before lining Tanaka's face. One filled with both love, and also effort. Ohta knew that even the act of kissing would tire out his listless friend, so it made him even happier that despite that fact, Tanaka wanted to do this with him. After a couple minutes of their slow, sweet kisses though, their lips parted, and they both took some well needed time to breath.
"I guess my dream was right, your lips do taste sweet Ohta." Tanaka said with a rare smile, making even further use of the muscles on his face. It didn't take him very long at all though to remark how tired all this would make him when he woke up tomorrow.
"Really, if I wake up and I'm too tired to move, you have to come to my house and carry me to school, ok Ohta?" He remarked, and while it sounded too extreme a consequence to be serious, Ohta knew that for his boyfriend, the possibility was definitely there.
"Ok, If you really can't walk, I'll come and pick you up. But only if you let me take you out on a proper date on the weekend. I'll carry you then too, and I won't take you anywhere too energy consuming, so you'll do it for me, right?"
"I did have plans to lie down at home and watch reruns of shows on Tv, but if you're going to carry me then I'd be happy to go on a date with you instead. But right now, I'm all tired out. Will you hold my hand while I sleep?" The boy asked, even going so far as to hold his arm up with his own strength for the few seconds until Ohta grabbed it.
"Of course I can. I'll wake you before we get in trouble for being in here too long, so feel free to sleep." He reassured as his fingers linked through Tanaka's tiny ones. Ohta's hands were so big and warm, and his voice was so soothing, and it was no surprise to either of them when the listless boy had fallen asleep almost instantly. While he slept, Ohta started to plan their upcoming date, thinking up the perfect day for his new boyfriend.
