"You haven't yet told me your name." Castiel said, a little hesitantly, his stoic façade threatening to fail him. He wasn't even supposed to be here. He should be at home, following orders, preparing for his new task as one of the earth's caretakers. But this strange boy…he reminded Castiel so much of himself. The way Koschei said that the boy was 'odd' reminded Castiel of how his brothers and sisters sometimes look at him, as if their trying to figure him, this 'peculiar thing', out. The boy was an outcast like himself.

The boy didn't look at him, but eventually he mumbled, "What's so important about my name?"

Castiel blinked with confusion. Koschei had told him that sometimes their people deny their birth name in favour of another, but still surprising to hear the boy having a complete disregard for his own title. It was confusing. But Castiel didn't want to be constantly calling him 'boy' or 'child' as such names didn't help him identify with the young Time Lord. "Names are what we identify with." he told the boy, "I wish to know how to identify you."

"But…" he hesitated, "My name says nothing about me…"

So that was it. Not only did Castiel want to get to know and identify the boy, the boy did also. Castiel never would have had to think about such things since all his decisions were made for him. He knew what he was, what he would be…but this boy did not. What advice could Castiel possibly give? He thought for a moment, and it soon stood to reason that, if he didn't like his current name or could not identify with it, then he should simply choose a new one. He voiced his thoughts to the boy and the boy smiled, apparently pleased with the answer.

"Well then…" The boy stood and turned to directly face Castiel. He placed his hand on his chest and gave a small bow of his head, which Castiel returned gratefully. "Hello, Castiel. It's nice to meet you. I'm the Doctor."

A.N: This is from a slightly earlier version of my SUPERWHO: The Apple Of Us story, but I quite liked it so I decided to post it. This version of the story featured a Castiel nearer to the one in season 4, instead of a naïve youth he is at the start of my story. This idea got changed when I decided that I wanted to imagine how Castiel became the jaded character he is in season 4 and I worked this into the final sketch of the story.
