💚 So I know, it seems I forgotten all my old stories, but I will try to update them all. And quite quick. Though, I don't promise long chapters. Just like this one. Which is something that might happen to Mistakes, so don't hate me? Just enjoy the new chapters, and accept my apologies for making you wait soooooooo long.

💚 And I know it has been forever, so maybe a quick recap. "Jace had a one-nightstand with Clary and discovered in the morning that she had a daughter (Zelda), and a very present ex. He works with Jon, her brother, who isn't really okay or them to be together since Jace is seen as a womaniser by Jon. Also, Seb, the ex, paid a visit to Jace when he learned that Clary wanted to present to Jace their daughter. In the midst of the conversation, Seb says that Clary will always be the love of his life and that he wants to make sure that Jace is here for the long run."

💚 The Consequences Of A One-Nightstand 💚

Chapter 5: Clary (3,6K)

Jace watched Clary sleep by his side, a lazy smile on his face. It was the first night of their weekend away, and as he knew it would, the night had been perfect. They had dinner in some fancy restaurant before they made sweet love for most of the night.

Despite Sebastian's reassuring words that he had 'no interest' in Clary, Jace couldn't stop thinking on how the man had told him, without any impunity, that Clary was the love of his life. He could understand that Clary and Sebastian would always be in each other's life, after all, they shared a child, and Jace would never be able to take that away from them. But that didn't mean that he was comfortable with how close Clary and her ex still were.

And there was Jon who kept saying over and over again that Sebastian and Clary were bound to get back together, that they only separated because it had been hard on them to be young parents and all.

Clary stirred next to Jace, and blinked, asking, "Hey, I thought I tired you at least until breakfast."

"Oh don't worry. You definitely killed me for at least another couple of hours."

"Oh. So what's keeping you awake, if it's not the chance to sex me up?" She asked, with a small concerned smile. For a moment, he hesitated to keep his worries to himself. He didn't want to ruin their weekend getaway, but Clary and he always had an open relationship.

"To be honest, … you ex paid me a visit yesterday for lunch."

Clary rolled her eyes and scooched closer to Jace as she told him, "Of course he did. You know how kids are. Zelda is going to get attached to you quickly, and none of us wants her to be disappointed if you're not here for the long haul."

"Of course. I just … I think he's still into you."

"It's like hearing Jon. Listen, Jace, Seb and I, we know where we stand. He is more than my daughter's father, he is my best friend as well. He's the person I call when I need to gush about you."

"Oh … you gush about me?" He teased.

She smiled, putting her hand on his face as she said as if nothing, "Of course, I do. That's what you do about guys you love. You gush about them."

Jace stopped breathing for a moment and looked at Clary with big eyes. "What did you say?"

Clary frowned, as if realising what she just said, and then she sat up, clearing her throat. Jace sat up as well, his smile even brighter as he couldn't stop thinking of those magic words Clary just told him.

"Well, I guess we're going to have this conversation now, rather than at the end of the weekend. The thing is, Jace, over the past few months, I came to fall for you. And I know you have no issue about me having a kid already, or Seb being present in Zelda's life. And you have no idea how grateful I am for that.

But … Seb is also part of my life. As I just told you, he is more than the father of my child, he is my best friend. I would love for nothing more for you to become my best friend in the long hall, but Seb will always be in my life.

I know it's not something you want to hear, but I love him. I'm not in love with him and given how he and I came to be, I can't really say I love him like a brother, but … if you cant accept that Seb is not only part of Zelda's life, but also part of mine, I'd rather for us to stop here. I'm not going to hurt my relationship with Seb to make anyone feel better about themselves …

So … I guess what I'm trying to say is, can you take on the baggage that comes with me?"

Jace longly looked at the redhead in front of him, thinking of what she said. On one hand, she just admitted that she loved her ex, and would never choose anyone over him. But on the other hand, he was the father of her daughter, and growing Seb away meant hurting her child. And besides, Clary had just declared her love t him, Jace. And he doubted that if she was two-timing him, or even second-guessing her decision to be with him, she would be so open about her feelings for Seb.

He tried to put himself in their shoes. After all, he had always wanted a family, he had just been waiting for the right one. But if he had thought he had found the right one and had discovered later on that it wasn't the case, would he be acting the same way Clary and Sebastian were acting? It was more than protecting their child, they were also protecting each other. And in a way, it was refreshing to see separated parents who didn't hate each other. His own parents couldn't stand one another since he was seven.

So he took a long breath and caressed Clary's cheek as he assured her, "I'm here for the long hall, Clary. I didn't run the other way when I realised you had a kid. I've always known you had baggage. I just … I guess I'm used to separated-parents hating each other, instead of supporting one another. Just bear with me and we will make it work. The four of us."

she smiled from the bottom of her heart, jumping on his neck and kissing him passionately as she told him, "Well, in that case, you better find some hidden energy."

He chuckled, pinning her against the mattress as he indeed found some hidden energy, and he said, "I love you, Clary."

"I love you too, Jace."
