Angel for a Babe

Koushiro had been unfortunate as a babe, so she prayed someone would at least take pity on him now. He'd become a beautiful and well-mannered boy under their care, but lonely and lonely was something they could do nothing about. Sometimes they wondered if it was a consequence of adopting him, of not being his real parents who would know instinctively what to do while they just blundered their way through – and at other times, they wondered if it was because of their inability to have children of their own that meant he would never have a sibling to share life with.

And now he was on his own more and more: at school, in the library, in the shadows of his own room lit only with the computer screen… And they couldn't look out for him forever. He was growing up, and growing distant, but he was still their little boy and they could only hope there was a guardian angel in some sort of guise watching over him.

And then one day, they meet that guardian angel. And they didn't expect an insect-looking other-worldly creature when they made that wish, but he seemed to be doing a stellar job in keeping their Koushiro safe and that was enough in their books, after the shock wore off.
