The Truth Doesn't Sell
Xenophilius was a very busy man.
As sole editor of The Quibbler, the magazine he founded, everyday he had to souse out news stories and keep track of day-to-day true events of the esoteric and strange as they happened.
Although he had some writers he could rely on and who penned regular contributions, a lot of the articles and news-bits were ghost written by himself.
Anyone who could've seen inside the machinations of the Quibbler, would soon discover it was severely understaffed and under-financed. Unlike it's more respected and highly-acclaimed adversary, the Daily Prophet, Xeno received little to no funding from the Ministry or from advertisements of large businesses. The Quibbler's sole streams of revenue were from buyers of the paper, its regular subscribers, and the sparse advertisements that smaller businesses and entrepreneurs paid for.
Advertising in the Quibbler was not expensive and Xeno regularly got a few good number wanting to advertise. The trouble is that he could never charge much for these smaller businness's ads, otherwise they would have cancelled their advertisement altogether.
Unfortunately, all the large sponsors and wealthy businesses paid for large ads in the Daily Prophet.
They turned down their noses up at The Quibbler, as if it was lesser.
The truth was, though, that the Quibbler had a more independent style of reporting.
Unlike The Daily Prophet, which was completely bought out and controlled by its corporations, Xeno could say whatever he wanted. And it was the truth he preferred to say.
Of course the truth doesn't sell.
As Xeno only himself knew too well, and lamented, he was one of the few journalists with any integrity.
