Sorry it has been so long. Hopefully it will not be as long again.
Chloe's Point of View
"What do you mean she is yours?" Lucifer asked.
He was eyeing me with a suspicious look and I had to break eye contact.
"Come on detective?" He pressed.
I took a deep breath closed my eyes and took a moment. All I could think was how much I needed to see her again but there was no way Lucifer would let me go without an explanation. So I took another deep breath and forced myself to look at him. He had a hint of concern on his face as he waited.
"Amber…I had a kid when I was 16…." I began.
"What like a hot tub time machine baby?" Lucifer smirked.
He thought I was joking I knew it.
"Lucifer!" I scolded.
"Sorry detective please continue." He apologised.
"I had a kid when I was 16 obviously I wasn't ready to have a baby let alone look after her and feed her and all the other motherly things she deserved. So I gave her up for adoption…." I sighed.
"So this morning when you saw Amber she made you think of your daughter and how she might not have been adopted….That's why you are here?" Lucifer finished for me.
Grateful he had I nodded in response.
"And what they told you I adopted your daughter?" He asked for clarification.
I nodded again before looking at him to see his reaction. At first I couldn't read it so I waited for him to speak.
"Well isn't that fantastic! It means you and I will always be in each other's lives." He smiled.
I couldn't help laugh at his response it was so Lucifer.
"So you want to talk to her?" He asked.
"Um I don't really know what I would say to her…" I admitted.
"How about hi I am Chloe we need to talk? You know detective she isn't a monster and doesn't blame her mother for giving her up. She has told Maze that in the past." Lucifer told me.
"Really Maze? I didn't think she would be good at talking to kids….." I replied.
"Maze? Maze can get anybody to talk especially Amber. They have a good relationship." He informed me.
"Oh…that's good…" I replied. I was unsure if Maze was a good influence but nevertheless glad Amber had her to talk to.
"Ok well then how about we get this boring murder over with and after we can go talk to Amber?" Lucifer suggested.
"Sounds good." I smiled.
Amber's Point of View
"You throw like a girl!" Maze joked as I threw another knife at the wall behind her head.
"Yeah I haven't got a very good teacher!" I smirked as she easily dodged the knife.
Maze pretended to be offended as she threw one at me. I easily dodged it as it hurled towards the lift and lodged in the wall just as the doors opened.
"Mazikeen!" Dad cried as he inspected the damage in the wall.
"You are paying for that!" He complained as he through it at Maze.
I ducked as it spun towards her. She reached up and caught it.
"Well if Amber here had practiced catching then it wouldn't have happened!" Maze retorted.
"Well then I guess you are both paying!" Dad replied as he pointed to the both of us.
"How about you don't throw knives at all?" The voice of the detective said as she came out of the lift hesitantly.
Dad spun round on his heels, clearly forgetting she was with him.
"Oh don't worry they are both very good. They never hit anyone they aren't aiming for." Dad smiled proudly.
"Well except that one time….." Maze began before dad shot her one of his looks.
The detective eyed her suspiciously.
"Another time then….over a few drink…" Maze mumbled.
"Or few!" I added.
The detective looked horrified as she looked to dad for some sort of parental authority.
"Now Amber darling you know you are not allowed to drink with Maze unless I am there." Dad sighed.
The detective looked even more horrified as dad realised his error.
"I am of course joking! She isn't allowed to drink at all…." Dad corrected poorly.
"Smooth." I replied.
"Ok so if you two could leave now we are just getting to the big knives!" I said annoyed they were interrupting my time with Maze.
"Actually Maze we need to talk to Amber so could you give us some space please?" Dad said sounding more serious than her ever had in my time with him.
Maze seemed to sense this to as she nodded and walked towards me.
"Don't worry kid we will start with the big ones tomorrow." She whispered to me.
A huge grin crossed my face as she winked and walked towards the lift. Before getting in she inspected the damage in the wall.
"You are so paying for that." She said as she realised it was bigger than she thought.
Once Maze was gone dad gestured for me to follow him to sit.
"Drink?" He offered the detective.
"No." She half replied.
She was sitting staring at me an expression on her face I couldn't read.
"What is this about?" I asked the detective unable to take her staring anymore.
She looked at dad who seemed to give her approval to continue. He stayed close to the bar and seemed tense and nervous. Something I had never seen him show before. There was a silence as neither of them spoke.
"Guys seriously…" I said getting impatient.
"I don't know how to say it…" The detective said barely above a whisper.
"Say what?" I snapped a little harshly.
"Amber!" Dad hissed.
"Well if she can't say whatever has summoned this meeting then you better!" I yelled.
I didn't know why I was getting so annoyed. Something about the way they were behaving was giving me a sense it was big and possible life changing. It was in that moment something clicked. I let out a gasp as the detective looked at me tears in her eyes.
"You're my mother…." I said for her.
"Yeah…." She mumbled.
Despite her tears and lack of words I knew she cared, I knew she was happy and that she didn't want to ruin my life of hurt me. However in that moment I had a knee jerk reaction and jumped to my feet. A million emotions were running through my head. Bad foster, bad foster families, sleeping rough, getting hit, getting arrested everything bad in my life was rushing through my head. The woman I had dreamed of meeting, of saving me was finally here but it seemed too late. I already had dad who pulled me out of the life she left me in.
"I don't…..I don't want to hear this now…" I managed to say as I ran towards the lift.
Dad tried to stop me but I avoided him.
I left the club I didn't know where I was going or why I was running but I was. I ran until I got to the beach. It was a place I had always loved and took great pleasure in. There was something about catching a wave that cleared my head. So I grabbed my board from the hut and took to the waves.
I was about to catch a massive wave when I saw dad and the detective on the shore line. I knew they saw me. In that moment I lost my balance and slipped into the ocean hitting my head as I did…..
Until next time ;-)
