Hypoglycemia a medical condition where the body has decreased blood glucose. This can lead to complications such as coma and death… This is due to the cells of the body being deprived of glucose, which, in addition to oxygen, is a crucial component in the creation of ATP. Without glucose, the cells have no means to create ATP, thus decrease in cell function, overall resulting in a decrease in organ function…

"Jazz!"

Hypoglycemia. The first signs in a person include anxiety, palpitations, shakiness, clamminess, inability to focus, later signs include unconsciousness which can progress to the patient being unresponsive overall. Can further progress to a coma and in some cases death. Ways to treat hypoglycemia: if the person is conscious, have them eat sugar, can be simple as orange juice or glucose tablets. Avoid foods with fat in them, want the absorption to be as fast as possible. If the person is unconscious, need to give glucagon intramuscular injection….

"Jazz."

Might have to give them other drugs if not responding to treatment. Such as epinephrine…epinephrine mobilizes—

"Hey, Fenton!"

Jazz whipped her head around with a jolt to see a tall boy with dark curly brown hair and hazel eyes waving her down. It was Parker, her study partner and one of the closet friends she had at the university.

She stopped, letting him catch-up.

"I had to call your name three times," Parker laughed, joining her side. "What are you thinking so hard about anyways?"

Jazz ducked her head in embarrassment. She was doing it again, but she really couldn't help it. "The lecture," she answered.

Today's lecture in anatomy and physiology was so interesting. The professor finally decided to mix it up and teach about an actual take medical condition, taking a break from the normal focus on the microscopic elements of the human body. Finally, a way for Jazz to flex her mind a little. The professor was brilliant, connecting hypoglycemia on a macroscopic level with what they were previously learning about the utilization of ATP in the muscle cells. Jazz couldn't wait to dive into her textbooks with this new perspective, which was half the reason she rushed out of class, leaving Parker behind.

Parker gave her a knowing smile. Probably guessing what she was thinking about doing. She would be surprised if he didn't guess right. They practically studied together every week since they were in multiple classes together. They were both pre-med majors; it made sense to team up.

"Sorry," she offered, half shrugging.

"Don't be," he smiled.

They started walking again. Passing the huge theater on campus.

"So, any plans tonight?" Parker said, starting the conversation.

Jazz hesitated. She knew today was one of the days this week her brother was on patrol. She liked to keep those days a little bit free just in case something happened. Of course, Danny wasn't aware she did this. She didn't want another lecture about how overprotective she was, which was rich coming from him.

"Uh," she said. "I think I'm kinda too busy today to study."

"Oh," he said, giving her a look. He ran his fingers through his curly locks, pushing them back in the process; he was looking to the side. He was blushing for some reason. "Well, I, uh, didn't mean—

A high pitch sound from Jazz's book-bag stopped Parker midsentence.

Jazz quickly dug into her book-bag, pulling the Fenton Ghost Detection Device, a name that could only be originated by Jack Fenton.

"What is that?"

"Ghost," she said levelly, already looking around her for any signs of paranormal activity. Whoever they were, they had to be close to set off her sensor. And when there was a ghost around, she knew her brother was soon to be present too, despite how many times she told him to go to class and leave it for their parents. But, unfortunately Danny only grew more and more stubborn with age. And, stupid. A fact she liked to point out to her brother during these disagreements.

She looked back at Parker. "I better go."

He opened his mouth to say something, but she was already running in the direction the sensor was displaying. She would make it up to him later for being so rude, but this was important. Danny might need her.

She didn't have to run too far. She found Danny fighting in one of the main quads against Bertrand and Vortex.

She stopped momentarily. That was an odd combo.

Not wasting anytime, she pulled out her ecto-gun, thankful her parents forced her to carry one—yeah, she knew she was a Fenton, but it made it hard fitting her books in when that bulky invention was taking up half the space in her bag.

She got a blast off quickly, hitting Vortex in the process.

Vortex let out an angry cry, turning his attention on her.

In retaliation, he shot a lightening blast at her, but she dodged to the side before it could hit its mark.

Danny was suddenly by her, then, forming one of his ecto-shields around the two.

"Shouldn't you be in class," Danny said, as he held up his shield around them.

She looked levelly at him, loading another ecto-cartridge in her gun. "Are you really going to lecture me on missing class?"

"What can I say, payback is a—" Danny's shield was struck by a nasty blast of lightening, making him wince in mid-sentence.

"What was that?" Jazz asked mockingly.

Danny's arms shook from the strain. "Shut up."

"Count of three?"

Danny nodded, keeping his eyes on the two ghosts.

Jazz held her gun up, getting ready. "One. Two. Three."

On three, Danny quickly let down his shield, allowing Jazz to fire two shots, each hitting their targets.

Danny zoomed past, slamming a hard upper-cut to Vortex, who was the first to recover from Jazz's attack.

Jazz aimed another blast at the ghost, concentrating hard on not hitting Danny.

"Jazz, look out!"

Suddenly, she was tackled to the side. The force making her gun knock out of her hands.

She saw Bertrand, in leopard form, pounce on where she was once standing, claws out and looking very pissed.

She turned her head, looking up, to see who was on top of her.

Parker was peering down at her, still posed above her, protecting her. His hands were on either side of her.

Before she could help it, she felt the heat rush to her cheeks.

Probably thinking the same thing she was, Parker's cheeks also took on a bright red hue. He got up quickly, then helped her up to her feet, muttering apologies the whole way.

It was cute, Jazz thought. But, they really didn't have time because now she was weaponless and a very angry looking ghost was glaring at them.

"Come on," she said urgently. She grabbed Parker's hand tightly, tugging him in a direction at a sprint.

She heard Bertrand roar and give chase.

She looked back to see the ghost begin to lunge at them again, claws out and teeth showing with a sneer.

Jerking Parker to the side with her, she dodged left, slamming into one of the building walls. The way the ghost landed, he was now cutting off any possible way of escape.

Knowing this, the ghost leered, beginning to stalk towards them, taking its time.

She still had no gun. And, no Danny.

Shit.

"Will you go out on a date with me?" Parker shouted.

Jazz whipped her head back to look at him. "What?"

"Will you go on a date with me?" he repeated, looking at her with a terrified expression, then back a Bertrand. For a second, he looked more scared of her than the huge ghost leopard stalking towards them.

"Uh," Jazz said, trying hard to focus on the threat. "Do you really think this is the best time to ask?"

"I was trying to earlier. But, you know, I figured since I might die and all, I might as well get it out now."

"We aren't going to die," Jazz said automatically.

"Is that a yes?" He said, smirking at her. He was using bravado, something Jazz could easily pick up since that was one of Danny's favorite tricks.

Before Jazz could answer, Bertrand made his move at the two, lunging towards them, going for the killer blow. Jazz felt Parker's hand grab her, pulling her so that she was behind him, but before Bertrand could make his hit, a large ectoblast connected to his side, throwing him across the quad.

"Down, kitty!" Danny shouted. He landed in front of them.

Seeing Bertrand wasn't getting up any time soon, he grabbed the thermos that was strapped to his back, and turned the spinning vortex on the ghost, sucking him into the container in the process.

"Are you guys okay?" he questioned, looking back at them, but his eyes strayed to Jazz.

She gave him a subtle nod, trying not to catch Parker's attention.

"Yeah," Parker said, still in front of Jazz in a tense position as if Bertrand was still coming at them.

"Vortex?" Jazz asked, looking around her.

Danny smirked, holding the thermos up and giving it a shake. "Taken care of."

Jazz let out a breath, then smirked at her brother. "Nice."

"Right back at you," he laughed.

Parker looked between them, the last of his terrified expression ebbing into one of confusion. "Do you guys know each other?"

"I'm/she's a Fenton," the siblings answered simultaneous, with such finality as if that was explanation enough, which it was. Especially since the asteroid incident, which completely set off their parents' ghost-hunting careers. Now, they were practically known as one of the world's leading ghost experts.

"Oh," Parker said, looking lost still.

"I think you broke him," Danny laughed at Jazz. Of course he would find this hilarious.

Jazz rolled her eyes. "Don't you have somewhere to be, dweeb?"

Danny laughed. "You're right, but this is much more fun to watch. Weren't you two in the middle of something?"

Jazz felt her cheeks heat up. Oh, no, he must have heard. She can tell by that downright evil smirk on his face. If they weren't in public, she would have hit him by now.

"You don't have to," Parker said, he was looking at her nervously. "I-I mean I want to, but you don't have to if you don't want to. I mean we can still be friends if you aren't comfortable. I guess I was in the moment, but don't feel like I'm pressuring you or anything like that. I wouldn't want that."

The poor guy's face was getting redder and redder by the minute, and Jazz could hear Danny trying—apparently not too hard—to muffle his laugh.

She threw a glare at him, starting to really get annoyed with her baby brother's presence.

She could tell Parker was getting ready to ramble again. "Wait," she said, putting her hand up in a stopping motion.

Still feeling super awkward with her brother watching and knowing he wasn't going to leave anytime soon, Jazz decided to just ignore him and focus on the more pressing matter.

Parker was asking her out. Her, bookworm and crazy ghost-hunting family Jazz Fenton.

Honestly, she was surprised that Parker asked her out on a date.

She thought they were just study buddies, but then again, she was probably just as clueless as Danny when it came to this stuff, not that she would ever admit it to anybody.

She didn't really even allow herself to think of him in that way—she never thought guys in that way, mainly because she didn't ever really see herself as the desirable type or at least never had time to. Not like she and any experience with this in high school, being a Fenton for the majority of high school was not exactly a guy magnet and after the asteroid, sometimes she couldn't tell the difference between a genuine inquiry for a date or not. But this was different, this was genuine, she could tell, which made the date with Parker even more appealing.

He was cute…and brave and smart. And, if she had to admit it to herself, sometimes she would see him that way whenever they were together…

"Yes," she said, finally deciding to stop thinking and take the leap. After all, what's the worst that can happen…almost immediately she started thinking about the worst…okay, stop thinking about the worst. Suddenly, she was filled with this nervous energy, something she never experienced before.

She saw Parker's face lit up. "Really?"

She smiled. "Just tell me the when and where."

"Okay," he said excitedly, his hazel eyes bright. "How about sometime this week when you're free. We can talk about today's lecture."

She beamed at him.

She heard a gagging noise and looked behind her to see Danny acting overdramatically to the display. "Okay, I think I'm leaving now; this isn't fun to watch anymore."

This was so hard to write for some reason. Get ready, next chapter, Dash and Paulina on a date, and of course, a couple of ghosts make it a little interesting.
