Lately, Hinata has been noticing some of your weird habits.
It's little things really. But those little things have been gnawing at him, telling him that something is incredibly wrong. The way your eyes linger on your reflection, the way you absentmindedly circle your thighs with cold stone eyes, the constant daze you've been in, all the little things that leave him very worried.
As someone who cares about you, it's his duty to check if you're alright. As your friend, he so incredibly worried that you're gonna do something stupid. And he knows that you would.
Still, it's hard to approach you when your usual carefree smile is nowhere to be found. The only thing he sees are vacant eyes staring seemingly at the ocean.
"Hey, you've been doing okay?" He asks, taking a seat next to you on the sand. "You've been really out of it lately."
The question was apparently unexpected, as you raised your eyebrows at him. "What are you talking about? I'm fine, Hajime," you genuinely look and sound confused, but he knows better.
A flash of annoyance hits him before telling himself that this was to be expected. He just settles narrows his eyes at your words, telling you that he's not buying it for a second, to which you shrug at. If he was anyone else, he would've fallen back and taken your word for it. But no, he knows better than to fall for one of your half-baked lies. He knows of your tricky and deceptive nature. And as much as he hated that part of you, it was the same smooth talking that has him so curious. But now…
"Cut the crap, we both know that something's wrong. I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong."
You don't answer. You're not even looking at him. Your eyes are still glued to the ocean, and he wonders if you would say anything at all.
"Heh, you really are a sweet guy… But is that really okay? Can you even handle that kind of burden?"
"Wait, what do you—?"
"What if I said that I was lamenting the death of a loved one? What if I said that I wanted to throw myself off a building? What if I said I just want to watch the whole world burn?" Eyes still facing forward, she continued to list each sentence like it was just everyday chitchat.
"W-Wait, calm down—"
"What if I said I wanted you dead?"
That immediately shut him up. He doesn't say anything, he can't say anything. You're finally looking at him but he wishes you weren't. The intensity of the formerly small gripe grows tenfold its original size. You're lying. You have to be. But even so…
How many more lies will it take before you got bored of him?
You're piercing stare melts into the usual carefree smile that he adores. "I'm just kidding! There's no way I would actually want you dead!" The lighthearted words do nothing to soothe the turmoil and it seemed like you pick up on that too. Your eyes soften, looking at him with such a tender gaze. "So don't look so down. You know that I'm a pretty good liar after all."
He could only laugh weakly at that. He definitely knows that for sure. But…
You hop up from your seat, dusting sand off your pants. "C'mon, Hajime! Let's get back to the other to see if Nanami has any games we could play!" Despite calling for him, you're already marching to the hotel as your usual upbeat self. Hinata stares are your back before slowly getting up to follow you back to the hotel, with much less enthusiasm and much more to think about.
Like usual, I am incapable to have a couple actually hook up orz. There's implications if you squint hard enough.
