"Mum!" Nymphadora Tonks called, opening the door and throwing her coat on the rack with reckless abandon.
"I'm in the kitchen, Nymphadora. Put your stuff away neatly and come join me." Andromeda Tonks answered, her voice echoing through the walls of the house.
Nymphadora walked through the hallways of her home, reaching down to pet the scruffy pygmy puff she had brought back from when she and Charlie Weasley attended the opening of the twins joke shop.
Upon reaching the kitchen, Nymphadora Tonks was greeted with a familiar sight: her father cooking something while her mum did the cleaning behind him, waving her wand familiarly from the table spot she was sitting in.
"Wotcher mum, dad. What's new with you?" Nymphadora asked cheekily, watching her mother smile politely at the sight of the gleaming wedding ring.
"Hello, Dora. Had you told me you were coming to visit I would have whipped up something for you." Ted Tonks said cheerfully, waving his arms around as he talked.
"Sorry, dad, I wasn't expecting to but I was in the neighborhood- order work, you know how it is. And since I missed last week's visit, I thought I'd pop by, check up on you two."
"And why were you sick?" Andromeda questioned, her gaze narrowing onto her daughters face with a bird-eye sharpness.
"I think I've caught some kind of bug, muggle maybe. I've been nauseous a lot in the mornings and-"
Andromeda's face paled and Nymphadora froze. "Mum? What's wrong?"
Andromeda stiffened. "Nymphadora, have you been to Saint Mungo's?"
Nymphadora shook her head. "It's not safe for me, not since the Daily Prophet published that article about me marrying Remus. I mean, they hate me enough as a Black, let alone as a werewolf's wife."
Andromeda closed her eyes for a minute, looking older then Nymphadora had ever seen her. "Nymphadora, I believe you may be pregnant. There is a spell I can use, if you want to be certain."
Nymphadora bit her lip. They hadn't planned for any kids while the war was going on but a child! She would be a mother and Remus would be a father. Wasn't that the best kind of shock?
"Okay. Try the spell."
Andromeda waved her wand and a cloud of pale blue smoke appeared around Nymphadora, concealing her from the outside world. The air was heavy with magic, a kind she hadn't ever felt in her life. It was something almost nurturing, a defensive shield that set around her shoulders and Nymphadora knew the answer to the question long before her mother spoke.
Pregnant.
