Hope Springs Eternal

Chapter Eight

Charmcaster and Ben had been called in to speak with Max about their next mission. Which was chosen because of the silver-haired sorceress' expertise. He told them, "We have a report of a number of stolen culture and art objects being shipped to Earth. The reason we wanted Charmcaster in this is because some of the items might have mystical powers and we want to be prepared. So you two are to stop and capture the thieves, return as many of the items as possible intact and check them for magic. Understand?"

The two Omnitrix wielders nodded, as Ben asked, "Any idea where the delivery is gonna be? Bellwood, Undertown, somewhere else?"

"We believe the shipment will be coming to Undertown in a disguised shuttle. But our informant has given us the landing site and the shuttle number. Hopefully this can be done without to much trouble, but don't be afraid to call if you need back up." continued Max as he brought up a print out of the information. It also contained a list of stolen items as well.

Charmcaster had remained silent, as she looked over the list. Most of it, she didn't know. Given the fact that most of the items being alien in origins. Some, however, seemed to tickle her memory of things she had read in Ledgerdomain. The sides of her mouth quirked up. She had a thought which perked in her mind, while they had any magical items in the Plumber's evidience locker. To avoid any trouble, she decided to ask permission then beg forgiveness. Especially since she had used up most of her forgiveness before and needed to earn more back.

She spoke up, "Would it be possible for me to study any magical items while we have them in our custody?"

"I'll see what I can do. Likely if you don't damage the item or the investigation, and add information to the Plumber files on magic, it should be okay. So get ready to go you two." was their commander's answer.

"We'll get those art items back to you as soon as possible." she answered as she and Ben got on the case.

Later in Undertown...

"So how much of this work is waiting? Cause this is getting a little dull." said Charmcaster, as she and Ben looked at spaceport in Undertown. They were hidden in the rooftops as they looked.

"While a lot of the time there's action and adventure, sometimes being a Plumber is waiting. After that comes more of the excitement people crave. If it helps, there's always the chance that a double-cross or something trying to steal from the thieves might happen. You'll get more action then you can handle." replied the young man, as he spied from high tech binoculors. Both of them had been given a pair, but Charmcaster prefered her methods.

They had been told the shuttle had been disguised as a grocery transport. So they had to wait for it to arrive. There were many different ships and shuttles were coming and going, as time stretched from minutes to hours. Before finally their ship came in, a ship which had a long length to likely hold all of the items it was carrying. A couple of trucks labeled with alien script were pulling up to the ship.

"Well, time to get to work." he said, as he pulled out a red pumber's badge for identification. They moved out, when the silver-haired sorceress could feel the magic in the air. The energy of portals opening, something she had trained to noticed more, and something coming out of them.

"Looks like we're getting that extra action you mentioned." she said as iron golems, with sigils on their bodies. She tried to judge what kind of sigil it was.

"You take the golems, I'll take the trucks." said Ben as he transformed into Blitzwolfer, to chase after the aliens unloading.

"Alright, let's see who I can use." she said, selecting one of the aliens before transforming. She transformed into something which looked like a dry cell. Black body with lightning bolt shaped limbs, violet eyes and a violet lightning bolt stripe down her front. On her back was a plus symbol near her head and a minus close to her legs. Her arms had two metal bolt on each of them, with the tip of her head being silver with the Omnitrix on top.

"I really need my own names for these things. Time for fun." she said before going off for the golems. She had guess they had something to do with lightning given the glyth she had seen. She hoped this alien and it's power could counter that. Still, in this form she felt amped up and ready to cause mayhem.

The metal golems marched without thought, while she caught up to them. She began to shoot electricity at them. Purple lightning hitting them, but not having any real affect. Then they turned to face her, and returned fire with their own yellow bolts. She tried to dodge them... until one of them hit. Instead of feeling pain or hurt, she felt like she had been charged.

"Guess I can take as much as you can give! Time to change it up." she answered as she changed her actions. Instead of avoiding the lightning, she moved to absorb it. Each time she felt like she was getting a jolt of caffee or something similar. However, by the same token, none of her energy blasts seemed to affect the golems. They had moved into position to surround her.

'I have two choices. Boost my attacks with magic or stop attacking with lightning. Given their magic nature, the first might not be a good idea. At least with more shock attacks.' she began to put a plan together. She continued her thoughts, 'Maybe I should let them charge me up, and then see what I can do.'

Elsewhere...

Ben was trying to get ahead of the trucks before they split up, memorizing the script and symbols of the trucks for later. There were three of them, hovering above the street. He jumped on them, moving up from the back to the lead vehicle. He then turned around once on the lead care and howled. It had the effect he wanted of damaging the trucks causing them to crash.

'Hope nothing broke. Or I'll be working extra hours at Mr. Baumann's.' was in his head as he tried to stop the final van, even while sending out a signal for back up by the Plumbers. He then bent over to face the drive, before asking, "I think that you should pull over. It would making things easier on all of us."

The answer was the truck swurving to get the hero off of the truck. Blitzwolfer's claws helped to keep him on the moving vehicle. He keep holding on as he tried to get access to the wheel to force them to stop. Twisting and turning it, as the alien driver did what he could to stop Ben.

'This isn't working. I have to try something else.' he then selected an alien and hit the Omnitrix. Gravattack replaced the werewolf like alien. While focusing his gravity powers to keep him on the truck, he also slowly increased the weight of the truck. He continued, 'Science might not be my best subject, but even I know making things heavier makes them harder to move. So either the truck stops because of that... or because the engine has overheated.'

Ben was getting results as truck was slowing down, smoke coming out of the hood of the machine. It soon came to a complete stop, as more smoke came from the hood. But Ben couldn't see any flames from the hood. He then used his powers to pull out the aliens, and pinned to the ground. He pulled out his plumber issued cuffs and put them on them. He then used gravity to pick them up and the truck as he headed back to the other trucks.

'Hopefully, I'll have things set up for the officers when they come. Then I can help Charmcaster with the metalheads.'

Back with Charmcaster and the Metalheads...

Charmcaster had been charging herself up and duplicating herself, then repeating the process. All part of her plan. The lessons Verdona had given her were the base of the plan. 'One of the basic aspects of magic. Like produces like. Rituals used for crops involving sex for instant. But in this case it more science-based magic.

Electricity is part of the electro-magnetic spectrum. So is magnetism. Since these guys are made of iron, it gives me options. With the right spell or combination of spells. Just have to get enough extra members and charging up.'

It was not too long before she had a couple dozens copies of herself. Each one bursting with electric power. Making sure to surround them, she cast her spell, "Badickinis Matalalurca!"

The energy transformed and hit the golems, giving her control of metal they were made of. Which caused her to move to her next step. She caused the bits of metal which made up the golems to be attracted to itself, to the point it crumpled them into balls of iron. The ferrokinetic spell continued to cause them to become attracted the centre of the ball they were becoming, causing it to become denser and denser. As the golems collapsed, they gave off electricity which was absorbed by Charmcaster's Megawatts form.

Soon, all that was left was some balls of extremely heavy iron. Drained of the electricity which gave them life as well as their shape which allowed them to move, they were now inert and harmless. After that, the Omntrix beeped and flashed red. Before all of the Megawatts reformed into one and transformed back into the silver haired sorceress. Who sat to catch her breath as she waited to recover before seeing what else had happened.

In another realm...

Addwaitya had been scrying the situation with his Iron Warriors, including their defeat. He thought to himself, 'Her ability to shapeshift will be a problem as it seems to amplify her magical abilities. I will need to make my warriors of something which would resist her elemental powers as well as other aspects like strength. Which will be difficult since there are too many possiblities to prepare for.'

'I need something adaptable as she is. A shapeshifting golem able to adapt and counter her powers. Something more of quality then quanity then. Something more complex, something made of more unique elements.' Thought the Turtle Alien Mage, as he summoned what spellbooks he had with him. Trying to research the materials he would need to construct what he wanted. The rarest of mystical metals, gemstones which can hold a mana charge, and other items to aid in his act of creation.

It would take time, but it would be worth it if he could use them to regain the power stolen from him. By Charmcaster and all the other beings taking his precious mana. The next step would be hunting down some mana-infused metal and other materials. That would take time, so the flaming head magical user knew he had to start soon.

Back at the Plumber Base...

Max spoke to the two Omnitrix users, "Other then the damages, the mission was a success. We have collected all of the missing art, religious, and magical artifacts. Job well done.

As promised, Charmcaster you can study the magical artifacts as we prepare them for trial and returning to where they had been stolen from. Under the supervision of Verdona, to make sure nothing bad happens. The Plumbers do have records of magic, even if they do have a bad habit of disappearing on us."

"I'll do my best, sir." she answered, trying to be polite due to her situation as well as the chance to look at the magical items.

Elsewhere...

Fistrick was overseeing his 'business' enterprise, as his minions spoke of a new seller of tech and more on the market. He asked, "So this Bro is selling us all of this stuff to help out other villain Bros? And is willing to help us make a profit?"

"Yeah, the guy offered both specialized equipment as well as general stuff for the working thug. Strange Bro though. Guy kept himself covered at all times. Couldn't really see who it was. Just brought the news to you, Bro." answered the thug as their skull faced leader rubbed his chin with his hand.

"Well, we can buy some of his products so we can see if it will backfire or not on us. I can do a quality check before we sell it. If it all turns out okay, we'll buy more of the Bro's stuff. So you can send word to the guy that we'll be willing to buy." said Fistrick as he took stock of things.

He had done robberies and other crimes from time to time, his biggest profit maker was selling to other criminals. Mostly tech. After Psyphon gang mostly collapsed on itself, he had managed to pick up the pieces in the criminal underworld in Undertown. Which gave him greater access to alien tech, contacts and criminals. A new market would only be good for him.

He then spoke, "Also Bro, keep Chadzmuth on speeddial. If any of this goes south and we have to deal with the Plumbers, we'll need him to open the doors of our cells with his legal magic."

"Right, Bro." said the Thugs, as they left. Fistrick then went back to making sales of 'liquidated' merchandise.

Author's Notes: Sorry this chapter is so short and took so long. But I have been sick and that has cut into my writing time. I tended to write shorter stuff. As well as other fic and stories. Hopefully, I will be able to write more. Whether or not it is this fic.

Hope you enjoy it. Thanks.
