Takes place weeks after the washer scene in the credits of Megamind.

Bernard was now staying in New York with his mother, telling him about what happened and why he didn't call for two months. Penny believed him- heck she had even seen this 'Megamind' on the news. She was taking care of his bills, though Bernard said that he could take care of it himself. Penny explained that she had money to spare and that she wanted to help her son.

Bernard was in his old room at the apartment- a single poster depecting the galaxy was still on the wall behind the bed- staring up at the ceiling. Two months, two months in a cube! Two months he lost, alone, afraid. He would wake up most mornings gasping and spitting, though he didn't know why. The buzzing of the washing maching made him jump, so he didn't handle his laundry unless he absolutely had to.

When Penny had trouble working on something, Bernard helped her out without asking for anything. He had nothing else to do, and she was his mother. One day, however, Bernard found Penny in a coughing fit. He took her to the hospital and waited for word on her condition. The prognosis wasn't good. Penny was ill, and Bernard knew that she couldn't work at Peabody Indusries while she was this sick.

"Mom," Bernard began when he went in to see her. "I want to stay, I'll take care of the company, and you."

Penny shook her head. "You don't need to, honey. I'll be fine."

Bernard took her hands. "I want to do this, mom. Please, let me." His eyes were sincere, as was his voice. "Please." He had nothing in Metro City, no house, no kids, nothing. There was nothing for him there. Here, his mother needed him and he could help her out by running the company while she recovered and even take care of her.

Penny nodded with a smile. "Alright. Thank you."

The doors of Peabody Industries opened and in walked a man in a blue suit, white button up shirt and a brown bow tie. His brown hair was held down with hair gel and he adjusted his glasses when he stopped at the front desk.

"Bernard Paul Peterson. I'm taking over the company for my mother." He said to the receptionist.

She looked up to see him. "Oh, Mr. Peabody!" She smiled. "Your mother called and told me about this." she took his hnad. "I am so sorry about what's been going on. Is there anything I can do for you, sir?"

Bernard shook his head. "No," he looekd at her name tag, "Crystal. I just need to know where my office is and I'll be set."

Crystal nodded, letting go of his hand. "Top floor, the elevator will take you right up."

Bernard nodded. "Do the stairs go up that far?"

"Uh, just to the third floor from the top." Crystal said, finding this question odd.

Bernard nodded again. "Thank you." He then walked to the stairs and up them. His new life on a path he was groomed for began with a step, walking up the path to what he was being prepared for.
