(Song Starts)
My broken wings dream of a sky
And they'll never be able to fly
Only if we never try
On my looooooove!
If I could become just one thing,
I'd be a butterfly-free soaring.
I really miss you...
So now finally I'm on my way
Let's focus on the people we trust
And leave all the doubt behind us
So if you're ready...
Can we go? There's no time to waste
I want to know~oh, oh, oh, ooh...
If the sky above is only for show
I want to know~oh, oh, oh, ooh...
What tomorrow will bring
So let's spread our wings
Maybe this world's an infinite dream
And there's only hope living in me
May it not fail me now
We'll turn this thing around
And bring back the lovin' somehow
My broken wings dream of the sky
And they'll never be able to fly
Only if we never try
On my looooooove~
On my loooooooooooove!

Chapter 7: Welcome to Beacon Pt. 2: Initiation
The large transport vessel was finally docking at the airship docking area of the school. Once it came to a complete stop, future students began to exit the ship. The first one to exit however was the blonde boy that Ruby, Gigimon, Yang and Koromon saw earlier. The first thing he did was rush over to a trash can before expelling his breakfast he held in from the flight. Yuck.
Ruby and Yang finally exited out of the transport, carrying their Digimon with them. They trekked from the docking onto the main avenue which led to the very courtyard of the school. As they finally got a good view of it, they and their Digimon were in nothing more than awe. They see the main academy buildings and their large, impressive main doorway, which opens up to a large amphitheater surrounded by a double ring of colonnades bisected by the main avenue with the outer ring rising high over the main entrance to the academy itself. The avenue is marked with trees and flag-draped light-poles, as well as a number of impressive aqueduct-like features and archways. In front of the entrance to the main amphitheater is a large statue and fountain of a Huntsman and Huntress standing atop a rock, beneath which a Beowolf cowers. There's also a large circular pond feature surrounded by a pathway and a garden of red trees.
The most prominent part of the academy buildings is a large tower in the distance. The tower was surmounted by a number of green spheres or lights, possibly the beacon after which the academy was named, as well as an intricate clockwork mechanism consisting of many interlocking cogs and gears. This made Ruby and the others believed they had walked into a fairy tale.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this!" Yang said.
Koromon couldn't help but nod. "Yeah. Way cool!"
However both the girl and the Digimon's attention turned towards Ruby, whose eyes appeared to have specks of sparkles in them. They knew that look. Ruby had just spotted some impressive weaponry being carried by the various students.
The said girl began pointing one direction like a fan girl before saying, "Sis, that kid's got a collapsible staff!" She then noticed another student walking past her. "And she's got a fire sword!"
"Uh oh," Koromon muttered. "Ruby's getting weapon crazy again."
Before Ruby to could flutter after the "marvelous weapons", Yang immediately grabbed the girl by her red hood before pulling her back. "Easy there, little sister. I think you need to think this through."
"Yeah," Koromon added. "I mean, aren't they just weapons?"
"Just weapons?" Ruby muttered out, before immediately getting close to both Yang and Koromon, causing them to flinch back a bit. "Just weapons?! They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us!" She then looked back in the direction of the students carrying the weapons, swooning before saying, "Oh they're SO cool!"
Gigimon pops out of Ruby's backpack before saying, "Aren't you happy with your own weapon, Rubymon?"
"Yeah, what he said." Yang added.
The sound of Ruby's weapon, Crescent Rose, unfolding revealed the scythe/sniper rifle combo weapon being held tenderly by the said girl. "Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose! I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people… But better."
"Ruby, come on." Yang said as she playfully pulled down the girls red hood over her face. Why don't you try to go make some friends of your own?"
"Yeah!" Koromon added. "It's always worked for me and Yang."
"But, why would I need friends when I have Gigimon and you guys?" Ruby asked.
Without saying a word, Koromon immediately took to Yang's backpack, hiding inside. This signaled Gigimon to jump into Ruby's and hiding inside as well. Ruby was confused by this until she saw what appeared to be Yang's friends from Signal Academy surrounding her.
"Well, actually my friends are here now! Got to go catch up!" Yang said quickly as she and her friends rushed off.
This caused poor Ruby to be spun around like a top as her older sister continued further into Beacon. Swirls appeared on her eyes from the dizziness and confusion of the situation.
"Wait, where are you going?!" Ruby called out as she spun. "Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms? I don't know what I'm doing…"
And with that Ruby fell back in a dizzy collapse. However, she didn't just fall onto the ground. What she did fall on was what appeared to be porter, which you see used in hotels to carry luggage, and the result of her fall caused white suitcases and luggage to fall off it. Ruby groaned as Gigimon, who luckily wasn't crushed by the topple, popped out and looked over his friend.
"Rubymon, are you okay?" Gigimon asked.
"I'm fine," Ruby replied as she held her head.
The sound of growling caught both her and Gigimon's attention. They turned to the direction of the growling and saw what appeared to be a white-furred puppy with round blue eyes wearing a gold ring collar around its neck. Unlike most dogs Ruby has seen, the paws of this one were more round and had no claws on it. The look it was giving her made Ruby shiver a bit.
"N-Nice puppy." Ruby stuttered a bit in fear.
Sensing the tension, Gigimon hopped in front of his friend and growled back at the unusual dog. "Back off!"
Seeing the sight of Gigimon caused the puppy to stop its growling. In fact, it had a look of shock on its face as it blinked a few times. What shocked Ruby and Gigimon the most was what came from the puppy's lips. "A Digimon?"
Hearing the dog speak caused both Ruby and Gigimon's eyes widen. They just couldn't believe the chance of this encounter.
"Y-Y-You just talked!" Ruby exclaimed pointing the puppy. "Which means—"
"She's a Digimon!" Gigimon added.
"HEY!" A voice of a girl calls out. "What are you doing?!"
Ruby and Gigimon look up to see a girl standing in front of her next to the puppy-like Digimon, looking agitated. Ruby could tell she was a few years older than her and noticed she wore a white dress with a long skirt. She had pale skin, white hair, bright blue eyes, a rapier-like weapon at her side and a rather noticeable scar on her eye.
"Uh, sorry!" Ruby squeaked out.
"Sorry?!" The older girl exclaimed pointing at Ruby. "Do you have any idea of the damage you could've caused?!"
Ruby immediately grabbed one of the cases handing over to the white-haired girl, who took it back with a bit of force. Ruby flinched from the glare she was giving.
"Give me that! Did you lose any of them?" The girl said as she opened the case inspecting its contents. Seeing that it was she gave a sigh of relief before turning to the puppy-like Digimon. "Salamon, are any missing?"
This got a blink of confusion from Ruby. "Salamon?"
Ruby watched as the puppy-like Digimon, known to her now as Salamon, went to work. She rushed over to each case and sniffed each one intently. Watching this, Ruby had to admit it was kind of cute. It reminded her of the little corgi she owned, named Zwei, back in Patch. He would always sniff new things to see if they were okay to be near. Ah, good times.
Salamon finished her sniffing sweep before turning to the white-haired girl and said, "None are missing, Snowflake." This got a sigh of relief from the girl.
"Oh, that was a close one." She said before turning to Ruby with an indignant expression, causing the red-cloaked girl to tense at the look. "Do you have any idea what this is?"
"Um…" Ruby said while fidgeting from the girl's look.
"This is Dust, mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry." The white-haired girl explained. Not getting an answer she continued while pulling out a vial, unknown that a cloud of powdered dust leaked from the suitcase as well as the vial. "What are you, brain dead? Dust! Fire, water, lightning, ENERGY! Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself?!"
While the girl argued with Ruby, unbeknownst to her, the cloud of varied Dust entered the range of Ruby's breathing area. The cloud itself tickled the girl's nose, first causing an itch before a familiar sensation to appear that inflicts all. Ruby tried to hold it in but couldn't no more. She reared her head back before giving a major sneeze.
"UAAA-CHOO!" FWOOSH! CRICK! CRACKLE!
The result of the sneeze, to Ruby's horror and the white-haired girl's discomfort, was a mixture of fire, ice and lightning. Thanks to the mixture of Dust and the catalyst that was Ruby's sneeze, the white-haired girl was covered in a minor explosion of fire, ice and lightning. The end result reviled the white-haired girl, completely covered from head to toe in soot. Fear and guilt built up in the red-hooded girl as the white-haired girl's expression read, "This ISN'T how I wanted my day to go, but it has, anyway...".
"Wow, Rubymon." Gigimon spoke up in awe as his tail wagged a bit. "I didn't know you can use an attack like a Digimon."
The white-haired girl immediately took notice of the red In-Training Digimon. In her mind she was shocked to see the girl, currently causing her strife, had a Digimon partner as well. The only other person she knew that had one was her older sister. However, she didn't have time to think about it now. She had a current issue to deal with.
"Unbelievable!" The girl shouted at Ruby as she shook herself clean of the soot covering her. "This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!"
"I'm really, really sorry!" Ruby said as she nervously twiddled her fingers together.
"Ugh! You complete, dolt!" The girl shouted back. "What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?"
"Well, I—"Ruby muttered a bit trying to look away from the white-haired girl's look.
"This isn't your ordinary combat school!" The girl continued. "It's not just sparring and practice you know. We're here to fight monsters! So watch where you're going!"
Ruby's nervousness immediately went away as she raised her voice, "Hey, I said I was sorry, princess!"
"It's heiress, actually." A feminine voice spoke up catch all four individuals' attention.
They turned to see a girl around the white-haired girl's age walk up to them, holding one of the bottles of Dust that were flung from the minor explosion. She was a fair skinned girl with amber eyes and long black hair. A ribbon is tied with a large bow on the top of her head. She also wears a black buttoned vest with coattails and a single silver button on the front. Underneath this is a white, sleeveless, high necked, crop undershirt and white shorts with a zipper on the front of each leg, emblazoned with the YKK logo.
"Weiss Schnee," The black-haired girl explained. "Heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world."
This got a smile from Weiss. "Finally! Some recognition."
Unfortunately for her, the black-haired girl wasn't finished. "The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners."
"What?! How dare—! "Weiss stammered in anger, while Ruby and Gigimon giggled quietly. "The nerve of—"
The girl then held up the Dust vial that rolled to her during the aftermath of the explosion towards Weiss. "I believe this belongs to you?"
With a disgruntled huff, Weiss retrieved her Dust vial before turning and walking away from the two, gesturing to her Digimon. "Come, Salamon."
The said Digimon looked at the two before giving a huff, turning up her nose and followed after Weiss.
"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Ruby called out, but was ignored. She sighed. "I guess I'm not the only one have a rough first day." She then remembered the other girl with and with a smile she turned to her. "So what's-?"
She was immediately silenced by the sight of the black-haired girl leaving. Ruby watched as she walked away in the opposite direction that Weiss had left in. This saddened Ruby greatly. Despite Gigimon being with her, she didn't have anyone at the school she could call a friend. She then slid to the ground in a sitting position with a sigh before lying on her back. She looked up at the sky with a look of sadness before Gigimon nuzzled her cheek with comfort, which rewarded him a scratch on the head from his partner.
"Welcome to Beacon." She muttered to herself as she lied there with her Digimon partner.
Her sulking didn't last long as a shadow over casted her and her Digimon. She looked up and to her surprise saw the boy who had thrown up on the ship, carrying a gym bag of sorts. He was holding her hand out to her with a smile on his face.
"Hey…" He said. "I'm Jaune."
Ruby smiled before taking his hand as she was lifted up. "Ruby." She looked at the boy's face before giving a snicker, "Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?"
A minute or so later, both Ruby and Jaune were walking side-by-side in the courtyard. Ruby, even though just meeting him, immediately took a liking to Jaune. The boy looked harmless, plus he was a bit funny. Considering the current conversation they were having at the moment.
"All I'm saying is motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" Jaune said.
Ruby couldn't help but wave her hand in apology before saying, "Look, I'm sorry. "Vomit boy" was the first thing that came to mind."
"Oh yeah?" Jaune argued. "Well what if I called you "crater face"?"
"Hey!" Ruby replied with a pout. "That explosion was an accident!"
"Well, the name's Jaune Arc!" The boy said with introduction once more. "Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue. Ladies love it!"
Ruby raised a brow at the boy. "Do they?"
"They will…" Jaune replied a bit in hesitation. "… Well, I hope they will. I mean, my mom always says, uh… nevermind." This got a minor giggle out of Ruby, while Gigimon blinked in confusion.
"I don't get it." Gigimon spoke up, catching Ruby with shock and Jaune with surprise.
'Oh no! Gigimon spoke!' The thought echoed in the red-hooded girl's mind.
Jaune immediately got close to Gigimon as the two both stared at one another. Gigimon blinked at the boy, which helped confirm the blonde's suspicions about the little creature being alive. He, however, poked the Digimon on the cheek gently, getting a giggled from the little red In-Training Digimon. Ruby at the moment was sweating bullets of fear.
"Oh, hey, you got one of those too?" Jaune said with a casual tone. That question caught Ruby completely off guard.
"Wait…" Ruby spoke up. "…What do you mea—"
Her voice was cut off at the sound of a muffled voice which, surprisingly, originated from Jaune's bag.
"Jaune, can I come out now?" The voice called out. "It's so stuffy in here and the smell of your socks is getting to me!"
Both Ruby and Gigimon blinked in confusion seeing the blonde boy's bag talk.
"Did your bag just talk?" Ruby asked.
"Is it magic?" Gigimon asked as well.
Jaune gave a minor laugh before saying, "No, no, nothing like that." He then unzips his back, opening it. "Also, sorry about that, buddy! Almost forgot about you for a minute!"
To both Ruby and Gigimon's surprise, a Digimon popped out of the bag. It had a round body like Gigimon but lacked a tail and bat wing-like ears. Instead it had two ears similar to Koromon's and its body was white. It had two black doll eyes, four limbs and a cat-like smile with two fangs. The definition of this one, in Ruby's case, was absolutely adorable.
The little Digimon gave a gasp of air, taking in the sweet breath of life with relief on its face before saying, "Finally, fresh air! Jaune, there's a thing called laundry day you—"The little Digimon then took notice of Ruby and Gigimon staring at him. "Oh hello, I am Tokomon!"
Jaune gave a smile, "Yep! Tokomon is my little buddy."
"He's so cute!" Ruby exclaimed with a gush.
This got Tokomon to smile before saying, "Thank you!"
"Oh!" Ruby said before looking at Tokomon. "Where are my manners? I'm Ruby Rose and this is my Digimon partner, Gigimon."
Gigimon lifted a stubby limb to wave. "Hiya!"
"So, what weapon do you use?" Ruby asks before pulling out Crescent Rose, which unfolds before the duo. "I got this thing."
"Whoa!" Jaune said with a shout as he stood back. "Is that a scythe?!"
"It's also a customizable, high impact sniper rifle." Ruby added, while hefting up her weapon.
"A what?" Jaune asked in confusion.
Ruby cocks her weapon before saying, "It's also a gun."
"Oh." Jaune said in awe. "That's cool!"
"So what've you got?" Ruby asked the blonde boy.
Before he could answer, Tokomon spoke up. "Jaune's got a sword and shield."
"Ooooooh!" Ruby said in admiration as Jaune pulled out the sword and gave a few swings.
"Yeah, Tokomon's pretty much my little weapons guy." Jaune said. "So, yeah, I got this and a shield too." He showed Ruby as he pulled off his sheathe which folded out into a shield.
"So, what do they do?" Ruby asked while inspecting the shield and touched it a bit. Once she did, the shield began to shift between sheathe and back, causing the blonde boy to clumsily lose grip and try to catch his tool. Luckily he was able to catch in as it folded back out into a shield.
Jaune timidly smiled as he said, "The shield gets smaller. So when I get tired of carrying it, I can just… put it away."
"But…" Ruby spoke up. "Wouldn't it weigh the same?"
Jaune couldn't help but sigh in defeat before saying, "Yeah it does."
Trying to brighten the blonde's situation, Ruby spoke up with a giggle while holding Crescent Rose. "Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons. I guess I did go a little overboard in designing it."
Jaune gawked in shock. "Wait, you made that?"
"Of course," Ruby exclaimed. "All students at Signal forge their own weapons. Didn't you make yours?"
"Nope!" Tokomon spoke up, catching the girl's attention. "It was a hand-me-down. If I remember human's calling it that."
"Hey, it's more like an heirloom, Tokomon!" Jaune said to his partner. "It's not like I can toss it! My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war."
This got a laugh from both Ruby and Gigimon before Ruby said, "Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days."
"Yeah, the classics…" Jaune replied with a warm smile. The two then began their walk again.
"So," Ruby spoke up. "Why'd you help me out back there? In the courtyard?"
"Why not?" Jaune answered. "My mom always says, 'Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.'"
"Huh…" Ruby replied in a tone of understanding. "Hey where are we going?"
"Oh, I don't know." Jaune replied. "I was following you."
Ruby gave a minor sigh before looking at her Digimon partner. "Gigimon?"
The In-Training level Digimon nodded before he started listening as well as sniffing the air. To Ruby's relief it didn't take long to figure out where to go.
"Rubymon," Gigimon said as he pointed to a direction. "I smell a bunch of people that way."
"I guess that's where we're going." Ruby said as she put Gigimon into her backpack, before turning to the blonde boy. "You coming, Jaune?"
"Yeah," Jaune said. "We're coming."
Tokomon gave a sigh, jumped back into the gym bag before saying, "I'll get back in the bag."
Jaune rubbed the back of his head apologetically. "Yeah, sorry, buddy."
Following the direction Gigimon pointed them to, Ruby and Jaune finally made it to their destination, the auditorium. Once they entered, they were in awe on how many students were gathered in the building. It was a sight to behold. Not only that but the architecture within the building itself was a wonderful sight as well.
"Ruby!" A voice called out. "Over here!" Ruby then turned and saw the owner of the voice being none other than her sister, Yang, who waved to her. "I saved you a spot!"
"Oh, hey, I gotta go." Ruby said to Jaune, as she started making her way towards her sister. "I'll see you after the ceremony!"
"Hey wait!" Jaune called out but was ignored by the girl, causing him to sigh. "Ah, great. Where am I supposed to find another nice, quirky girl to talk to?"
Tokomon popped out of the bag and looked to his partner before saying, "Don't worry, Jaune. At least you still got me." This gave the blonde boy a smile, as he and his partner walked into the crowd, unbeknownst that they were watched by a pair of vivid green eyes.
Just as Ruby walked up, Yang turned to her with a smile. "How's your first day going, little sister?"
Ruby gave Yang a minor glare before answering, "You mean since you ditched me and I exploded?"
Yang flinched a bit at that answer before saying, "Yikes. Meltdown already?"
"No, I literally exploded a hole in front of the school," Ruby explained in a heated tone. "And there was some fire, and I think some ice…"
Yang and Koromon, as he popped out of her backpack, blinked, looked at one another then looked back at Ruby before Yang said, "Are you being sarcastic?"
"Ugh, I wish!" Ruby replied. "I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage and she yelled at me! I sneezed, and then I exploded! And then she yelled again! And I felt really, really bad! And I just wanted her to stop yelling at me!"
"YOU!" A familiar voice said behind Ruby, causing the girl to jump into Yang's arms, who looked and saw it to be Weiss.
"Oh god, it's happening again!" Ruby cried out.
"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!" Weiss berated the red-hooded girl.
Yang was wide-eyed hearing this before looking to Ruby and muttered, "Oh my god, you really exploded."
Ruby was set down before she turned to Weiss and said, "It was an accident! It was an accident!" Before she could say more, Ruby had what appeared to be a pamphlet in front of her face which said, "Dust for dummies and other Inadequate Individuals" written on it. This caused Ruby to blink before asking, "What's this?"
"A simple pamphlet for those like you," Weiss explained. "I realized that it wasn't YOUR fault, but rather mine for assuming that you were a… functioning individual. So, I figured that you should be given a simple how-to guide on how to handle Dust. First off, the Schnee Dust Company is not responsible for any injuries or damages sustained while operating a Schnee Company product."
Unfortunately for the red-hooded girl, she and the others couldn't keep track of what the white-dressed girl was saying, considering how fast she was talking right now. Ruby couldn't help but be puzzled to what the girl said. "Uh…"
Koromon blinked a bit before turning to Yang and whispered, "Did you follow any of that?"
Yang gave a so-and-so gesture with her hands before saying, "…Ish?"
Gigimon then poked his head out of Ruby's bag, blinking before saying, "Did somebody say something?"
This caused Salamon, who was seen near Weiss's legs, gave a scoff as she saw Gigimon. "Him again…"
Weiss took notice as well before saying, "Oh, I see you've got one of those as well, too."
Ruby scratched her cheek with her index finger before saying, "Yeah…"
Weiss gave a sigh before saying, "You really want to start making things up to me?"
"Absolutely?" Ruby replied, her thought still unsure before she was given the pamphlet.
"Read this and don't ever speak to me again." Weiss added with a hard look.
"Look, uh…" Yang spoke up. "Sounds like you two just got off on the wrong foot. Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?
This got Ruby to smile at her big sister. "Yeah! Great idea, sis." She cleared her throat before turning to Weiss, with her hand raised to shake the white-haired girl's hand. "Hello, Weiss. I'm Ruby. Want to hang out? We could go shopping for school supplies…"
"Yeah!" Weiss added with an excited girlish tone. "And we can paint our nails! And try on clothes! And talk about cute boys! Like tall, blonde, and scraggly over there!" To emphasis this, Weiss pointed to none other than Jaune, who's attention was grabbed by the white-haired girl.
"Wow!" Ruby exclaimed with a hopeful smile. "Really?"
Weiss then answered her with a frown on her face before saying, "NO."
The sound of speakers coming to life was heard by the students, as their attention was drawn to the stage. There they saw none other than Ozpin and Glynda standing on the auditorium's stage. The headmaster himself standing in front of the main microphone, while Glynda stood next to the man's left. He then began to speak.
"Greetings, new students of Beacon Academy. I'll... keep this brief. You have travelled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills. And, when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I can see is wasted energy. In need of purpose… direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will only prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."
As he finished speaking, he walked away as Glynda took his place at the microphone and spoke, "You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow your initiation begins. Be ready. You're dismissed."
"He seemed kind of… off." Yang spoke up.
"It's almost like he wasn't even there." Ruby added.
Before long, Jaune walked up to them, looking at Weiss with a prideful grin. "I'm a natural blonde, you know."
This caused Weiss to grip the bridge of her nose with her index finger and thumb in annoyance, showing she was getting a headache from this. Salamon responded to her partner's distress by biting Jaune on his leg, causing the boy to yelp in pain while Ruby, Yang and their Digimon watched in pity of the boy.
Time past as night fell onto Beacon, the stars glistening in the sky while the shattered moon shone high above. The sound of nocturnal wildlife echoed in the wind. Meanwhile, the new potential students settled down within the ballroom, per Ms. Goodwitch's instruction. Every one of them were already settled in their nightwear and asleep, while a few others stayed up a bit.
Ruby was one of the few who stayed up longer. She was wearing her regular pajamas she had packed for Beacon. She wore a black tank top featuring a heart-shaped Beowolf design on the chest and long white pants decorated with pink roses. She also wore a black sleeping mask decorated with triangular red eyes reminiscent of shadowed Beowolves on the top of her head. At the moment, she was laying on her sleeping bag while writing on a piece of paper. Gigimon, at the moment, was resting under her chin as she wrote.
The sound of a body landing next to her caught the young girl's attention. She turned to her right and saw that Yang had flopped next to her, on her own sleeping bag, while holding Koromon as if they were a plush toy. She too was wearing pajamas which consisted of an orange tank top with her emblem on the front in a red, and black boy shorts. Both the blonde and her Digimon had a grin on their faces.
"Isn't this great?" Yang asked. "It's like a BIIIIIIIIG slumber party!"
Ruby gave a deadpan look on her face before replying, "I don't think dad would approve of all the boys though."
"I know I do!" Yang said with a purr as she looked at a group of topless, well-toned students. Her watching however was cut off as Jaune walked in front of her view wearing what appeared to be light-blue feetie pajamas. This caused Yang to cringe a bit before focusing on what her little, half-sister was doing. "What's that?"
"A letter to the gang back at Signal." Ruby answered. "I promised to tell them all about Beacon and how things are going."
"Aw, that's so CUUUUUUUTE!" Yang commented. Just as she did, she was hit by a flying projectile that was a pillow, thrown by Ruby.
"Shut up!" Ruby berated. "I didn't get to take my friends with me to school. It's weird not knowing anyone here."
Gigimon looked up at his partner with innocent eyes before asking, "What about me, Rubymon?"
Ruby smiled and petted her Digimon before replying, "You're different, Gigimon."
"What about Jaune?" Yang spoke up as she placed the pillow to her side. "He's… nice. There you go! Plus one friend! That's a hundred percent increase!"
"Pretty sure Weiss counts as a negative friend." Ruby replied as she grabbed Gigimon and flipped onto her back and laid on her sleeping bag. "Back to zero."
"There's no such thing as negative friends!" Yang said as she puts Koromon down next to her pillow. "You just made one friend and one enemy." Her answer was replied with a corgi pillow hitting her face. "Ruby, look, it's only been one day. Trust me, you've got friends all around you. You just haven't met them yet."
The sound of a match being lit caught Gigimon's attention. He looked and saw a familiar black bow-wearing girl lighting a candle. She was wearing a black, long-sleeved, yukata-styled shirt with white edging over a purple undershirt, and a matching skirt. A black obi was wrapped around her waist and tied with a black and white string. At the moment, she was reading a book.
"Rubymon, look." Gigimon said catching her attention.
She looked in the direction Gigimon was looking and she inwardly gasped at who it was. "That girl…"
"You know her?" Yang asked.
Ruby shook her head. "Not really, she saw what happened this morning but left before I could say anything."
Yang smiled a bit deviously before saying, "Well, now's your chance!" As she said that, she stood up, grabbed Ruby's hand and proceeded to drag her over to the black haired girl, much to Ruby's discomfort.
"Wait! What are you doing?!" The two In-Training Digimon watching blinked a bit.
"Should we do something?" Gigimon asked.
Koromon shook his head. "Nah, just let it run its course."
The girl at the moment was reading her book. However, the sound of footsteps and a girl grunting caught her attention. She looked up from her book to see Yang walking over, dragging Ruby with her, with a smile on her face.
"Helllllllllo!" Yang called out with a wave. "I believe you two know each other?"
"Aren't you the girl that exploded?" The girl asked with a raised brow.
"Uh… Haha… Yeah," Ruby replied nervously before holding out her hand. "My name's Ruby. But you can call me… crater… Actually you can just call me Ruby."
"Okay." The girl said as she continued to read.
"What are you doing?!" Yang whispered to her.
"I don't know! Help me!" Ruby whispered back.
"So, what's your name?" Yang asked.
"Blake." The girl simply replied.
"Well Blake, I'm Yang!" Yang introduced. "Ruby's older sister! I like your bow!"
"Thanks." Blake replied.
"It goes well with your… pajamas!"
"Right." Blake replied as she continued to read. This made the two siblings to laugh nervously.
"Nice night, don't you think?" Yang asked again.
"Yes, it's lovely." Blake replied. "Just as lovely as this book." The two girls were silent. "That I will continue to read-"They were still silent. "-as soon as you leave."
"Yeah, this girl's a lost cause." Yang said looking at her sibling.
Ruby then looked at Blake. "What's it about?"
"Huh?" Blake looked up at Ruby.
"Your book-"Ruby asked again. "Does it have a name?"
"Well, it's about a man with two souls." Blake replied. "Each fighting for control over his body."
"Oh yeah… That's real lovely." Yang said trying to keep her smile.
"I love books." Ruby spoke up. "Yang used to read to me every night before bed. Stories of heroes, monsters… They're one of the reasons I want to become a Huntress."
"Why is that?" Blake asked in kind amusement. "Hoping you'll live happily ever after?"
"I'm hoping we all will." Ruby answered. "As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books. As someone who fought for what was right and who protected people that couldn't protect themselves."
Blake couldn't help but smile. "That's very ambitious for a child." However, her smiled dropped a bit. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."
"Well, that's why we're here." Ruby replied. "To make it better."
"Oh, I'm so proud of my baby sister!" Yang spoke up as she immediately hugged and lifted up her sister while giving cutesy noises at her.
"Cut it out!" Ruby shouted annoyingly as she proceeded to scuffle with her blonde sibling.
Gigimon wagged his tail watching this with a smile. "Oh boy! Play fighting!"
Koromon smiled as well. "Sign me up!" Without another word both In-Training Digimon joined the dust cloud of scuffling. Seeing this Blake couldn't help stifle a laugh.
"Well Ruby, Yang, it's a-"
"What in the world is going on over here?!" Weiss's voice called out as she was seen walking over. "Don't you realize some of us are trying to sleep?!" It was at that moment, the scuffle stopped and Weiss and Yang saw one another.
"OH NO NOT YOU AGAIN!"
"Guys, she's right." Ruby said shushing the two girls. "People are trying to sleep."
"Oh, now you're on my side?" Weiss asked heatedly.
"I was always on your side!" Ruby retorted.
"Yeah!" Yang added. "What's your problem with my sister? She's only trying to be nice!"
"She's a hazard to my health!" Weiss countered.
Blake shook her head with a sigh. She put down her book before grabbing the candle. Taking a breath in, she immediately blew out the candle. This allowed darkness to encompass ballroom and she immediately tried to go to sleep.
The next morning came as the sun shone and the birds sung. Today was the day of initiation, a day for the students to prove themselves to be allowed into Beacon. One of the students in question was still resting.
The student was a young man with long black hair tied into a ponytail that ends midway down his back. There was a magenta streak on the left side of his hair. He wore a dark green, diagonally-buttoned, long-sleeved tailcoat that was red on the inside, with black and gold trimming and pink cuffs. The trimming goes down the right side of his torso and forms a black collar. He wore a black, long-sleeved shirt beneath the suit and light-tan pants with black shoes.
He wasn't the only one resting though. Lying on his lap was a bird-like Digimon. It had a round body with pink fur. It has two small wings, a stubby tail, a beak, and a red feather with a yellow tip on the back of its head. The two were sleeping soundly until…
"Wake up, lazy butt!" A feminine voice spoke up, waking the boy and Digimon from their slumber.
"Yeah! Wake up, wake up!" A child-like voice spoke as well.
The boy's eyes along with his Digimon's opened. The boy's eyes were magenta while the Digimon's was blue. They both looked up tiredly at the origin of the voices.
The first voice was a girl with short orange hair and turquoise eyes. Her clothing is a mix and match of some sort, with different colors and themes. She wears a collared black vest that ends at her waist. Her signature emblem, a hammer with a lightning bolt, can be found on the back. Under the vest are two layers of clothing, colored red and light-blue respectively. She also had a turquoise bow at the back of her skirt.
They also saw a small Digimon on her shoulders. It had a round head with a horn and floppy ears and its body looked like a jellyfish. The color of its skin was whitish-lime and had two black dotted eyes and two fangs in its smiling mouth.
"Good morning, Nora. Gummymon." The boy greeted tiredly.
Nora smiled with a grin. "Good morning, Ren! Poromon!"
Poromon blinked tiredly before yawning. "Why do I keep forgetting she wakes us up like this?" Ren only replied with a sigh as he sat up before grabbing his Digimon partner.
"It's morning! It's morning! It's morning! Ittttt's morning!" Nora sang as she posed around Ren.
Ren immediately began his morning duties. With Poromon under his arm, he walked to his locker, grabbed a toothbrush and headed for the restroom. He brushed his teeth before making his way back to the ball room and tied up his sleeping bag. Once that was done, he went to go eat breakfast. The main dish, pancakes. Once he was done with that, he headed back to the lockers to gather his weapons. During all of this, Nora was talking.
"I can't believe we've been to Beacon for a full twenty-four hours! Not that I thought we'd get kicked out or anything. I mean, you're the perfect student and I'm... well I'm me! But it's just crazy, you know? We've all been friends for soooo long! What are the odds we'd still be together? Well, not "together" together. Not that I'm saying you're not handsome, you are handsome! But that'd just be weird. Right? Right. What was I thinking? But still, I hope we end up on the same team together. Ooh! We should come up with some sort of secret plan! To make sure we end up on the same team together! What if we bribed the headmaster? No, that won't work… He has the school. I know! We'll have some sort of signal! Like a distress signal or a secret signal so that we can find each other in the forest! Can you imitate a sloth?"
"Nora…" Ren spoke up.
"Yes Ren?" Nora asked tilting her head a bit.
"I don't think sloths make a lot of noise." Ren said as his weapons shifted into a smaller form before disappearing into his sleeves.
Poromon blinks before turning to Gummymon. "Do you know what a sloth is?"
Gummymon shrugged before saying, "Not a clue."
"That's why it's perfect!" Nora exclaimed. "No one will suspect we're working together!"
Ren couldn't help roll his eyes playfully before grabbing Poromon and said, "Come on, Nora. Let's go."
"But not "together" together." Nora said as she grabbed Gummymon and followed after Ren.
Gummymon giggled before saying, "Nora, momentai!"
The two teens walked past none other than Ruby and Yang, who were also getting ready for the initiation. Sitting on the brown bench watching the two were Gigimon and Koromon. Ruby looked in the direction of Nora and Ren with a puzzled expression on her face.
"I wonder what those two are so worked up about." Ruby asked aloud as she proceeded to open her locker.
"I dunno," Yang replied as she fiddled with Ember Celica.
"You seem happy this morning, Ruby!" Koromon said with a smile on his fanged face.
"Hm, yep!" Ruby replied as she pulled out Crescent Rose and cuddled it. "No more awkward small talk or getting to know you stuff. Today, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking."
"What about me, Rubymon?" Gigimon asked with a wag of his tail. Ruby then picked up the little Digimon before tickling him on his stomach.
"And how could I forget my wonderful little partner?" Ruby replied with a cutesy tone. Gigimon couldn't help but laugh as he was assaulted by Ruby's tickling fingers.
"Well, remember Ruby, you're not the only one going through initiation." Yang spoke. "If you want to grow up, you're going to have to meet new people and learn to work together."
"Ugh, you sound like dad!" Ruby groaned. "Okay, first of all, what does meeting people have to do with fighting? And secondly, I don't need people to help me grow up! I drink milk!"
"Me too!" Gigimon added with a cute smile.
"But what about when we form teams?" Yang questioned. This caused Ruby to be a bit nervous.
"I don't know, I—"Ruby spoke timidly. "I'll just be on your team or something…"
"But… what if you were on a different team?" Yang asked again.
Ruby sighed at that question before turning to Yang. "If I was on a different team, do you think Gigimon would be happy about that?" That caught Yang off guard a bit. "He would have to hide all the time or pretend to be a stuffed animal. It would break my heart seeing him not being able to have the freedom or breathing room. That's one of the main reasons I'd like to be on the same team as you, Yang. So Gigimon wouldn't have to hide."
Koromon turned to Yang before saying, "When she puts it that way…"
"Come on, Rubes!" Yang spoke. "It won't be all bad. Besides maybe you should try being on someone else's team." She tensed when Ruby got close to her face.
"My dear sister Yang," Ruby said with a stern tone. "Are you implying that you do not wish to be on the same team as me?"
"What? No! Of course I do…" Yang replied trying keep her sister calm. "I just thought, I dunno— maybe it would help you break out of your shell!"
"What the—! I don't need to break out of my shell!" Ruby retorted. "That's absolutely—"
"Ridiculous!" Jaune spoke aloud as he walked past Ruby and Yang. "There's no way I put my gear in locker 636 yesterday! I would've remembered having to count that high! Aww, why does this have to happen today?"
As if the situation couldn't get worse, the sound of Tokomon's voice calling out to him from one of the lockers hammered the nail further on the situation.
"Jaune, is that you?" Tokomon called out. "It's cramped in here! Also your socks ain't making it more bearable!"
"Oh no! Tokomon!" Jaune said in a frantic shout before rushing to the locker his Digimon was locked in. "I'm so sorry, buddy!"
As Jaune was dealing with that situation, Weiss was interacting with another girl. She had red hair in a waist-length ponytail, curled slightly into a loose ringlet. She also wore light-green eye shadow around the far upper corners of her green eyes. She was tall and quite muscular compared to most of the other girls at Beacon. As a top, she wore a brown over bust corset with a vertical strip of lighter brown in the center. Additionally, she wore an elastic, black, A-line mini skirt and brown opera-length gloves on both arms. She wore a red, ankle-length sash that wrapped around her skirt. As for accessories, there was a small circular bronze plate on her right hip opposite two pouches with both connected to a belt. The plate bore her "shield and spear" emblem. Underneath her hair, she always wore a brown circlet adorned with a pair of small, green, teardrop-shaped emeralds on thin chains. She also sported a large bronze gorget around her neck and a bronze bracelet on the upper half of her left arm. Unlike the other girls, she wore armor. She had elaborate bronze greaves that started below her mid-thigh before continuing downwards into her boots, as well as a pair of cuisses that began mid-thigh and ended slightly above her knees. She was also equipped with a bronze bracer capable of connecting with her weapon atop the sleeve on her left arm. Her high-heeled boots were brown with bronze trim, matching her skirt and sleeves and reaching up to mid-calf. Weiss knew she was Pyrrha Nikos, a well-known Huntress-in-training from Sanctum.
"So, Pyrrha?" Weiss asked, catching the red headed girl's attention. "Have you given any thought as to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well known individual, such as yourself."
Pyrrha hummed a bit before replying, "I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may."
"Well, I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together!" Weiss proposed.
"Well that sounds grand!" Pyrrha replied.
"Great!" Weiss exclaimed, while her thoughts raced in her mind as she had a devious smirk on her face which seemed a bit more… maniacal.
'This will be perfect! The smartest girl in class combined with the strongest girl in class! Together, we will be unstoppable! I can see it now! We'll be popular! We'll be celebrities! We'll get perfect grades! NOTHING CAN COME BETWEEN US NOW!'
Her thinking came to a halt, when Jaune came between her and Pyrrha, with the recently-freed Tokomon under his arm. "You know what else is great? Me. Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you."
"You again?" Weiss said with irritation in her voice.
"Nice to meet you, Jaune." Pyrrha greeted with a wave, however she was moved aside by the boy to get near Weiss.
"Yeah, yeah." He said before focusing on Weiss. "So, Weiss, couldn't help but hear your fondness for me the other day."
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." Weiss groaned.
"Don't worry, no need to be embarrassed." He assured her. "So, been hearing rumors about teams… I was thinking you and me would make a good one. What do you say?"
"Actually," Pyrrha spoke up. "I think the teams are comprised of four students each."
"You don't say?" Jaune said as he walked over to Pyrrha. "Well, hot stuff, play your cards right and maybe you can join up with the winning team."
Weiss took immediate action and got between the two. "Jaune, is it? Do you have any idea who you are talking to?"
"Not in the slightest, snow angel." Jaune replied.
"This is Pyrrha." Weiss said gesturing to the red-head.
"Hello again!" The red-head replied with a wave and a smile.
"Pyrrha graduated top of her class at Sanctum." Weiss explained to the blonde boy.
"Never heard of it." Jaune simply replied.
This made Weiss scoff a bit. "She's won the Mistral Regional Tournaments four years in a row! A new record!"
Jaune raised a brow. "The what?"
Hearing that caused Weiss's face to start turning red with anger before waving her arms angrily and shouting, "She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!"
This made Jaune gasp in awe as he looked at Pyrrha, "That's you!? They only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!"
Pyrrha blushed a bit before saying, "Yeah… it was pretty cool. Sadly the cereal isn't very good for you."
"I don't mind!" Tokomon spoke up. "I love Pumpkin Pete cereal! It's yummy!"
Hearing his partner's voice caused Jaune to flinch. Not only that, this cause the two girls to look at the Digimon under Jaune's right arm. Realizing what's happening right now, this caused Tokomon to blink before sweating with fear. Why did his stomach have to open his big mouth?
"Tokomon," Jaune spoke with a whisper through gritted teeth. "Remember the whole "keeping a low profile" bit?"
"Sorry, Jaune." Tokomon replied with a whisper apologetically. "My stomach took control of my voice again."
Both human and Digimon partner tensed as Pyrrha bent down and looked at Tokomon. However, the look in her eyes wasn't that of hostility but that of a kind soul. Seeing that made Tokomon feel a bit at ease, if for a moment.
"Who's this?" Pyrrha asked with a smile and kind tone. Jaune nervously chuckled a bit as her rubbed the back of his head.
"Oh...uh...he's...something I found on my scroll one day? You know, order service, plush toys, that sorta thing?" Jaune replied, before pausing as Pyrrha looked at him, and Weiss looked as well but with a raised brow. This caused him to sigh. "You're not buying that, are you?"
This made Pyrrha giggle. "Not really. Considering I know that he's a Digimon."
Not only hearing that shocked Jaune but Weiss as well. Pyrrha Nikos, the pride and joy of Mistral, knew about the existence of Digimon? Even though she was a celebrity, Weiss knew from her older sister that Digimon were kept secret for a reason. If the public knew about them, it'd be like the mass Faunus discrimination only on the levels involving the Creatures of Grimm. She couldn't imagine if Salamon got caught up in a situation like that.
Her thoughts were broken when she heard Jaune speak again.
"Really? H-how do you know about Digimon?"
Pyrrha smiled before rising up and replied, "The reason I know is because I have a Digimon partner myself." She then pulled out, to their shock, a Digivice similar to theirs. However, the color of Pyrrha's was different. It was colored red and gold while the buttons were colored green, like her eyes. "Would you two like to meet him?"
"Oh, um, sure!" Jaune replied with a smile.
Pyrrha smiled again before pointing her Digivice to the ground before calling out, "Sunmon, realize!"
With a press of a button on her Digivice, the screen shined as a cloud of bits and pixels covered the floor in front of them. It started to the form of a Digimon, roughly around Tokomon's size. It had a round orange body shaped similar to that of an old symbol of the sun. On top of its head was a speckle of flame that burned bright. It opened its eyes to reveal to having similar eyes to Tokomon. It looked up at both Weiss and Jaune with a smile.
"Hello!" The Digimon greeted with a child-like voice.
"Weiss, Jaune, I'd like you to meet my partner, Sunmon," Pyrrha introduced.
"Wow!" Jaune said in awe. "That was cool!"
"Thank you, friend of Pyrrha!" Sunmon thanked Jaune as he bowed a bit.
Jaune turns to Tokomon before setting him down and said, "Hey, how about you hang out with him for a bit, Tokomon?"
"Okay, Jaune!" Tokomon said with a smile before walking towards Sunmon. The two greeted one another before they too began conversing.
Watching this, Weiss couldn't help but frown. Sure she was surprised that Pyrrha had a Digimon partner but for this nameless blonde to have one too infuriated her. Though watching their Digimon interact with each other did make her soften a bit. Seeing both Pyrrha and Jaune's reaction to it though made her a bit jealous. She felt something brush her leg and saw it was Salamon watching the scene before them as well.
"Is it me…," Salamon quietly spoke up. "… or are humans and partner Digimon popping up everywhere we least expect it, Snowflake?"
"Don't call me that, Salamon," Weiss replied with a hushed voice. This made Salamon raise a brow.
"But you've never minded that nickname before?"
"Ix-nay, ix-nay, ix-nay!" Weiss quietly replied giving a sweep hand gesture near her throat.
Salamon gave a sigh before replying, "Yes, ma'am."
Without further ado, Weiss immediately got between the star athlete and blonde boy with a look of irritability. "Look, after hearing all of this, do you really think you're in a position to ask her to be on your team?"
Hearing this, Jaune realized before becoming crestfallen. "I guess not. Sorry."
"Actually Jaune," Pyrrha spoke up as she walked up to him laying a hand on his shoulder. "I think you'd make a great leader!"
"Ah, stop it." Jaune gushed out.
"Seriously, please stop it." Weiss added. "This kind of behavior should not be encouraged!"
"Sounds like Pyrrha is on board for Team Jaune," Jaune said. "Spots are filling up quick! Now, I'm not supposed to do this, but maybe I could pull some strings? Find a place for you? What do you say?"
Weiss stepped back a bit from his forwardness. "Alright, that's a bit too close! Pyrrha, a little help please?!"
Just as Jaune turned around, he was hit by a gold and red blur, causing him to be shot back and pinned in the wall. The object that put him in place was actually Pyrrha's weapon, which shifted to its spear mode. Jaune was in a daze as part of his hood was stuck by the spear, this sight caused both Sunmon and Tokomon to sweat drop a bit. Pyrrha, on the other hand, had a look of minor regret on her face.
"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha apologized. Before she could continue, the sound of the intercom caught all their attention.
"Would all first year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation. Again, all first year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately."
"That's our cue. Salamon?" Weiss spoke up as she walked away. Right behind her, Salamon followed.
Pyrrha went over the Jaune, pulling her spear out, causing him to fall to the floor. "It was nice meeting you!"
"Likewise," Jaune groaned.
Pyrrha turned to her Digimon before walking away, "Sunmon, time to go!"
Sunmon nodded before turning to Tokomon. "See you later!" With that said, Sunmon followed after his partner with a series of hops. Tokomon gives a wave to his new friend.
"Bye-bye, Sunmon!" Tokomon said before turning to Jaune. "You okay, Jaune?"
"Physically, yes." Jaune said before groaning. "Spiritually, I'll have to get back to you on that." Once that was said, Ruby, Yang and their Digimon walked up to the boy.
"Having some trouble there, lady killer?" Yang said with a playful smirk.
"I don't understand…" Jaune said. "My dad said all woman look for is confidence. Where did I go wrong?" Jaune looks up to see Ruby offering a hand to him. Without further hesitation, Jaune grabbed Ruby's hand before being pulled up and slung over her shoulder.
""Snow angel" probably wasn't the best start." Yang added.
"Come on Jaune, let's go." Ruby said as she carried him to their destination.
A few moments later, the first year students gathered at Beacon Cliff. The cliff itself was tall as it overlooked over the heavily forested area below. The forest itself was known as the Emerald Forest. Here, Beacon hosted the initiation exams for first year students to be allowed into the school. Not only was it filled with natural wildlife, but teeming with Creatures of Grimm. At the moment, Ruby and the other students were lined up on platforms in front of Glynda and Ozpin. All of them looked at the headmaster and teacher as they began their speech.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors," Ozpin said. "And today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."
"Now," Glynda spoke up. "I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates. Today." Hearing this made Ruby whimper a bit.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon." Ozpin added. "So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone whom you can work well." Another whimper came from Ruby. "That being said, the first person you make eye contact with, after landing, will be your partner for the next four years."
Hearing this made Ruby's world shatter before saying, "What?!"
Nora turned to her friend with a knowing smirk. "See! I told you!"
"After you've partnered up," Ozpin continued. "Make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path or you will die." Hearing that made Jaune gulp. "You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation. But our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path, containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
Jaune then lifted his hand before saying, "Yeah, um, sir—"
"Good!" Ozpin spoke again without hesitation. "Now, take your positions."
With that said, each of the students took their positions. Every one of them was poised and ready for battle, everyone except for Jaune of course.
"Um sir…" Jaune speaks up again. "I've got um… a question."
From the platform, Weiss was launched into the forest.
"So, this landing strategy…" Jaune spoke as more people being launched. "What is it? You're like, dropping us off or something?"
"No." Ozpin simply replied. "You will be falling."
Another student was launched into the forest. Jaune was getting more nervous.
"I see…" Jaune spoke. "So, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?"
Nora was launched, who gave a happy holler as she soared.
"No." Ozpin simply replied again. "You will be using your own landing strategy." Another student was launched into the forest.
Sweat began to drip from Jaune. "Uh-huh."
Yang gave a wink to Ruby before putting on her sunglasses and launched off into the forest with a whoop and holler. Ruby gave a determined smirk before being launched into the forest as well.
"So, um, what exactly is a landing strateg—" Jaune said before being launched with a scream. "YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!"
Ozpin watched as the students disappeared in the distance. Kudamon finally uncurled from his disguise as he too watched the students disappear in the horizon.
"This should prove interesting." Kudamon spoke up.
"Indeed." Ozpin replied before holding his mug to him. "Care for some, my friend?"
"Thank you," Kudamon replied before sip of the bean nectar his partner enjoys.
Over the forest, a single Nevermore flew. Unlike most Nevermores, this one was around the size of a crow or raven. It didn't mind its size, but if only it could snack on some humans it would. Unfortunately, ever since those new creatures showed up in the forest, life for the Grimm has been a living hell. At least nothing could get worst.
Suddenly a red blur hit the Nevermore, causing it to die in a puff of black feathers. Yep, it definitely got worse.
"Birdie no!" Ruby shouted in a pout.
She didn't let that stop her though as she fired Crescent Rose three times to give enough recoil force to slow her decent. Once there, she changed her weapon to her scythe mode allowing her to stick to a tree branch, do a few loops around before flinging herself to the ground safely.
The rest of the students took their own approach of landing. Weiss used her glyphs to stop her free fall in several bounds. Ren used the blades of his weapons to twirl down the trunk of a tree, allowing him to land safely and dust off any sawdust that got on his sleeves. Yang fired off her gauntlets in the air, propelling her forward until she got to the forest. There, she began jumping from tree to tree until she safely landed.
"Nailed it!" She said as she rushed off into the woods.
Pyrrha had her shield and sword out as she used the shield to smash through several trees before making a safe landing in one of the trees. She quickly shifted her sword into a rifle looking around. In her sights she saw someone familiar to her left. The person in question was Jaune, who was still falling through the air out of control. Without hesitation, she then shifted her rifle into a spear before aiming carefully before throwing it. It let out a dust shot, launching itself further towards Jaune. She waited a bit before hearing a long distanced thunk against a tree. She even heard Jaune's voice in the distance.
"Thank you," He groaned.
"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha called out.
In another part of the forest, Ruby landed on the grass and dirt ground similar to that of a super hero. She looked around for any danger nearby, luckily for her, there wasn't any. She stood up before grabbing her Digivice from her belt.
"Gotta find Yang," She said quietly aloud. "But first…" She aimed her Digivice at the ground. "Gigimon, realize!"
With a press of a button and a glowing screen, Gigimon appeared on the forest floor in a cloud of bits and pixels. The little Digimon looked up at his partner as his tail wagged happily.
"Thanks, Rubymon!" He said with a smile. "It was cramped in there."
Ruby returned her partner a smile. "No problem. Do you think you can help me find Yang?"
Gigimon gave a nod before saying, "Sure!" He took a minute to get scent in the air. Before long, he turned to Ruby before pointing in one direction. "Rubymon, I smell someone that way!"
"Good job, buddy!" Ruby said patting the Digimon on his head before picking him up. "Alright, let's get to it!"
Without hesitation, Ruby activated her Semblance and took off into the forest like the wind. She and her Digimon looked around, hoping to find signs of Yang. Despite the sound of the wind rushing in her ears, she decided to call out to her older sister.
"Yang!" she called out. "Yang!"
"Koromon!" Gigimon also called out. "Koromon!"
As she ran, a thought began to also run around in her head. 'Oh, this is bad. This is really bad! What if we can't find her? What if someone finds her first? There's always Jaune and Tokomon… they're nice. They're funny… I don't think Jaune's very good in a fight, though. Oh! What about Blake? So mysterious… So calm. Plus she likes books! Then again, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her. Ugh, ok. Who else do I know in this school? There's Yang, Jaune… Blake and...'
She noticed something in front of her. Immediately she skidded to stop in front of the very thing she saw. Once she stopped, she was able to get a good look at it. It wasn't a thing but mainly someone, a certain someone known as Weiss Schnee. Weiss had turned around just as Ruby stopped in front of her. Once Ruby had raised her head, her eyes had made contact with the white-haired ones. Thus by the rules, forced them to become each other's teammates.
A minute or two passed as the two continued to stare at one another. Wasting no time, Weiss immediately turned around before walking off in the opposite direction. This made Ruby tense before reaching out for her.
"Wait! Where are you going?" She called out but got no answer. Her voice became quieter after that. "We're supposed to be teammates…"
Weiss walked through the forest, Salamon keeping up. The heiress was doing everything she could to keep her dress in order and avoiding some of the more… objectionable parts of the forest. She then heard a groaning noise and looked up to see… Jaune, stuck in the tree by a spear through his hood. Not only that, she also saw Tokomon trying to pull the spear out. So far no success on the little Digimon's end.
"Don't worry, Jaune!" Tokomon said with a grunt. "I'll get you out!"
Jaune grunted and struggled before looking down to see Weiss. "Oh… hey!"
Just after he said that, Weiss immediately turned the other direction. Salamon quickly followed after her partner. Both had finally arrived back to where Ruby and Gigimon were at before. Weiss immediately grabbed Ruby by the scruff of her cloak and dragged her away.
"By no means does this make us friends." Weiss muttered irritably.
This made Ruby raise her arms in excitement. "You came back!"
"Yay! Friends!" Gigimon spoke up with a wagging tail.
Salamon gave a groan. "This is going to be a long day…"
"Hey wait!" Jaune called to them. "Come back!"
"Looks like they're not going to help us," Tokomon pointed out before continuing the pull the spear. "No worries! I'll get you out!"
"Jaune? Tokomon?" A familiar voice called out. They looked down to see Pyrrha and Sunmon looking at them. "Do you have any spots left on your team?"
Jaune crossed his arms. "Very funny." This, however, got him smiling at Pyrrha, who smiled back.
With Weiss and Ruby, they trudged through the forest. Gigimon was resting in the hood of Ruby's cloak while Salamon followed after the two with a trot. Ruby caught up with Weiss and kept the pace with the white-haired girl.
"What's the hurry?" Ruby asked her.
"I will not let my mission be delayed because you're too slow." Weiss replied irritably. "I swear if I get a bad grade because of—"Suddenly Ruby appeared in front of Weiss, who had a cat smile on her face, causing Weiss' eyes to widen a bit. She looked back behind her to where she was before then back to where she was now.
Salamon even blinked in shock before uttering, "How did she—"
"She was just—"Weiss added.
"I'm not slow, see!" Ruby spoke. "You don't have to worry about Gigimon and me!"
"When did—"
"Weiss," Ruby spoke again. "Just because I don't exactly don't know how to deal with people, doesn't mean Gigimon and I don't know how to deal with monsters! You're about to see a whole different side of us today, Weiss! And after it's all over you both are going to be like, "Wow, that Ruby girl and Gigimon are really, really cool… and I wanna be their friends."
Once that said, Ruby disappeared in a flurry of speed, the only thing left behind was a patch of roses. This caused Weiss to groan and grow irritated at the young silver-eyed girl. Why could she see the importance to the situation at hand?
"You may be fast, but you still excel at wasting time!" Weiss said aloud. When there was no answer, this got the white-haired girl worried a bit. "Ruby?"
The sound of a rustling bush caught Salamon's attention. That wasn't the only thing. She smelled the air, catching a scent. It smelled of wet dog, blood and tar. It was a scent she was familiar with since Weiss' days of training. Then in one of the bushes, she saw it, the glowing red eyes of a familiar enemy. The dog-like Digimon growled, catching Weiss' attention.
"Salamon?" The girl asked. "What's the matter?"
"We've got company, Snowflake." The Digimon replied.
Weiss tensed as she brought out her rapier, Myrtenaster, having it ready for battle. She then heard the various growling around her and her Digimon as she too saw the glowing red eyes in the bushes. A rustling was heard as something stepped out before the two. It was a Beowolf, but unlike the common breed, this one was far larger and its body covered in more bone armor. There before the two was none other than an Alpha Beowolf.
It growled at the two partners before giving a howl. This caused the others of its pack to come out of the foliage and surround them. Weiss tensed at her situation and she did the one thing she never thought to do, she called out for her teammate.
"RUBY!"
