This is a au where Steven and Connie have a daughter, who has a gem herself. Shortly after her birth, Steven goes on a mission and is killed. This is kind of based on Rose's Scabbard. (Yes, Peridot does have her limb enhancers in this.)

The Warp Pad flashed, Rose furiously looking around the Alpha Kindergarten. Her eyes landed on Peridot, standing a few feet away. In her hands, she clenched Steven's shield.

"Peridot!" The brunette called. The green gem turned.

"Leave...me...ALONE!" Peridot yelled, running. Rose gulped, giving chase. Soon, she was next to the Crystal Gem, enough to see the tears.

"Wait for me!" Peridot just ran faster. Soon, her helicopter was extended up to a high cliff. Rose gulped, starting to climb up. "Yeah, right. I'll meet you at the top!" She slipped, watching a chunk of rock fall. "This is really hard to do in sandals."

"Go away!"

"Did I do something wrong?" Rose asked. "You have to tell me."

She grunted, lifting herself up to see Peridot. Her back was to the cliff, shoulders shaking. She turned to see Rose, expression widening in horror. "Rose!" The gemling could soon see why. The rock cracked under her hand. And then she was falling.

Then a green hand wrapped around her own. Peridot grunted, lifting Rose up. When the child was safely on the cliff, the gem sat down next to the shield. "Peridot, you have to tell me what's wrong."

A sniffle met her.

"S-Sometimes, you even sound like him."

Rose gulped. There was a quiet pop, then Peridot's real hand clenched the grass. "Do you remember this place? Do you have any of his memories?" The child walked up as she stood. "We were right here, sixteen years ago. Ready to fight against Homeworld. I was meant to capture him, and yet he saved me instead."

Peridor's gem glowed...

And Steven Universe stood there.

He was like her mother's pictures: a chubby young boy of fourteen, brown curls messy. He held a shield, a smile on his face. Peridot knelt, watching the hologram. She spoke along, having a conversation.

"Peridot, you don't have to do this. I'm going to stay, and fight for my home. You don't have to."

"But, I want to."

"You don't owe me a thing. Please understand. If we lose to these mean clods, we'll be shattered. And if we win, you'll never be able to go back to Homeworld."

"I thought I was already banished when I called Yellow Diamond a clod right to her face."

He laughed.

"That was pretty funny." Then he held out his hand. "My friend."

"My Steven." Peridot whispered, taking his hand. As soon as she touched it, he disappeared. Like smoke. She gulped. "After all I did to him, Steven still cared for me. And soon, everything I did was for him."

"Like Pearl and my grandmother."

"Yeah. Now, he's gone. But I'm still here." Peridot sat down. "Sometimes, I wonder if he can see me. Through your eyes." She sighed. "What would he think of me now?"

She stiffened as Rose hugged her. Like Steven used to.

"Well,"

"I think you're pretty..."

"Wonderful."

"Great."

Peridot sniffled as she cried.
