Lucifer tilted his chin down just slightly, then vanished as though he had never been there.

Sam stiffened, but waited. He tried to look to the side–

He couldn't move his head.

He couldn't move, couldn't do a thing, trapped, helpless, useless–

"If you're just going to panic, Sammy, maybe I shouldn't help you at all," His own voice snarked.

Sam's fear launched itself into the atmosphere. His body rolled its eyes. He couldn't move, he couldn't move, he couldn't move–

"Kick me out any time you want, you know."

Out? Kick out? He had to be free–

Sam gasped as he stumbled forward, wings flapping noisily from behind as they tried to stabilize him. Lucifer appeared in a corner once again with a raised brow. "Ready to try again?"

Sam snarled. "Then fucking warn me next time, you assho–"

"–yeah, yeah." The archangel rolled his eyes. "Ready?"

Sam glared in response. Lucifer shrugged and disappeared.

The box closed around him once again. Terror crawled up his throat until he realized–he was still breathing on his own.

Ready to calm down?

Sam grit his teeth.

I'll take that as a yes. Three, two, one–

Fleeing the mortal confines of his body was the hardest thing to describe in the world.

He was free, yet tethered. Nothing and everything. He was space and time molded into being, molded into a creature so far beyond human imagination.

Sam blinked. Or did he? Once, twice, three million times. His vision was split into thousands of screens, each sending thousands of images. It was impossible, and yet it wasn't.

While I detest the demon, he was right about the moose.

Lucifer's voice echoed through his head. Did he have a head? Yes. No. He had several, Sam concluded. That sounded right.

A moose? There was a moose. Yes. He knew that. What else was there?

It seemed there was a bird, too. Birds were cool. He liked birds. They were nice to watch. Did they watch him back?

Sorry, Sammy, I don't think your brain is made to process this. Whoops! But I think we can do better next time we try this. It'll be minus the feeling of tap dancing around in la-la land.

La-la land? Huh. Maybe. It was weird. He was solid and liquid and gas all at the same time. He was up and down and sideways and diagonal. He was in-between and outside. This sounded awfully like that problem with the cat in the box. Cats like boxes. Cardboard boxes. And–hey, wait, did Lucifer just apologize to him? Granted, it sounded sarcast–

The room was spinning. At least, it was to Sam. He fell back into his chair, feeling as if all the wind had been knocked out of him.

Lucifer winced. Sam couldn't tell if it was real or not. "You know how to get the sword now?"

Sam nodded jerkily. Blegh, big mistake. The world spun even faster. His face felt pinched.

"Hold–hold on. Just a quick break, then I'll–"

Lucifer snapped his fingers and the dizziness quickly faded away, even as Sam tensed at the noise. The archangel's eyebrow twitched, but he didn't comment.

"Ready to take a trip to Wyoming?"

Sam narrowed his eyes. "What about Cas?"

Lucifer rolled his eyes. "Don't worry, Sammy, your favorite angel is going to meet up with us when we get there." He focused in on Sam, blue eyes sharpening like ice. "Sword first. Castiel later."

Sam stood, straightening. "Fine," he growled, and with naught but a whisper of feathers, they vanished.

The first thing Sam noticed was that they were standing on a rock. A very, very, very tall rock. He swallowed.

Lucifer seemed to notice his discomfort, smirking. "Sammy, really? You have so little trust in me that you think I'd let you fall? So cruel." He slapped Sam's shoulder with faux-friendliness. Sam stumbled. "You'd just come back to life, anyway." He glared. Lucifer shrugged.

Sam let out an annoyed sigh, making sure his feet were staying in the same position. No matter what Lucifer said, he was not in the business of falling. "Whatever. Lucifer, how do we do this?"

Lucifer blinked innocently. "Hmm? Oh, this part? Easy. In fact…" Lucifer held up a hand and winked. "Easy peasy lemon squeezy."

Sam looked at him as if he were an idiot. "What the hell? Lucifer–" He took a step forward.

Lucifer snapped his fingers and Sam's body exploded with light.
