Petunia knew she had magic since she was ten. She could always do strange things, and it was only when Lily did strange things in the neighborhood park, and a boy saw it, that she understand what she was.

This boy, Severus Snape, was a wizard, and he explained to the girls that they were witches.

"It's very unusual for two people born to a Muggle family to both have magic."

Petunia blinked. "So, we're special?"

Severus nodded. "Yes. Usually if there is a Muggle-born witch or wizard, she or he is the only one in the family."

Lily smiled happily. "Well, if I'm a witch, I'm glad Tuney is as well!"

And just like that, the three of them became inseparable.

Since Petunia was a year older than the two of them, she got her Hogwarts letter first. Petunia stared at the list of supplies while Lily and Severus eagerly looked over her shoulder.

"Wow. Potions are real!" Lily gasped.

Severus tore his gaze away from the parchment and looked at Petunia with a frown. "You're not happy." It wasn't a question.

"I am. It's just..." She swallowed nervously. "I'm going to be going to Hogwarts by myself since both of you are too young. I'm not going to know anyone there."

Lily took her hand. "Tuney, you'll be okay. And next year, the three of us will be back together once again."

Severus nodded. "You won't be on your own. There are lots of Muggle-born and even Half-bloods that were raised in the Muggle world."

"Like you?" Petunia asked.

"Exactly like me. You'll make friends, and next year, you'll be the one showing us around."

Petunia finally allowed a smile to break free. "Thanks, Sev. I feel better."

And when she went to Hogwarts, she stared at the wonder of the Great Hall. Stared at the bewitched ceiling. She watched as kids went before her to get sorted.

And when her name was called, she confidently, or at least tried to make it look confidently, walked to the stool. She sat down on it, and the hat was placed on her head.

"Ravenclaw isn't for you. And although you are hardworking and loyal to the ones you care about, Hufflepuff is not where you belong. And I don't think you have the brash bravery of a Gryffindor. You have ambition in spades, though. You have a thirst to prove that even though you're a Muggle-born, you can still be great. Better be SLYTHERIN!"

There was silence. No applause like for the other students. Severus had told her about Slytherin. She knew that she was going to have trouble. There were no Muggle-borns in Slytherin. And many of the Slytherins believed in Pure-bloods being the best, and Muggle-borns, and even Half-bloods didn't belong in the wizarding world.

She slowly walked towards the table and sat on the far end, near the two other first years that had been sorted there before her. She did her best to ignore the glares aimed at her.

She held her head up high. She wouldn't show fear. Not to them. Not to anyone. If she was sorted into Slytherin, there was a reason for it.

But suddenly, she felt even lonelier. And she really couldn't wait until Lily and Severus were with her next year.
