For Antiqua! A little focus on Sucy and Diana this time.

Chapter 21.

Akko is a little extra energetic today, because after classes she had proposed to have a picnic together with Sucy and Diana.

And while her two girlfriends are much more reserved and calm about it, of course Akko is bouncing off the walls with excitement, even though the three of them have been dating long enough by now that it really shouldn't warrant such an extreme reaction from her. But, as Sucy and Diana see it, it just goes to show how truly happy Akko is about being together with the two of them.

However, by the final lesson of the day, Akko is fidgeting so much in her seat that both Lotte and Sucy have to hold her down. Right as the final bell rings, Akko jumps up in her glee.

"All right, class is over!"

But of course ends up knocking against her table, which consequently causes one of the glass potion vials to fall and shatter. All the other witches turn to stare at her. Lotte and Diana both heave sighs while Sucy snickers to herself.

Akko freezes and stiffens, swallowing hard.

"Oops…"

Professor Finneran turns narrowed, angry eyes upon her before giving her punishment.

"Kagari Atsuko! Detention for one hour!"

"Waaaah?! No waaaay! But I had a date with-"

"Akko," Diana says hastily, standing from her seat beside her. "Please just accept the consequences of your actions and complete your detention. Be responsible." She clears her throat pointedly and looks away. "Whatever plans you had made can wait, I'm sure."

Akko sniffles, looking between her and Sucy.

"But Dianaaa-"

"Akko?" Lotte says, standing beside her friend. "Like Diana said, it'll be fine." She then leans in a little and murmurs so only Akko can hear. "Sucy was looking forward to your date too, though she didn't say it."

Akko forgets her plight just for a second and grins down at her other teammate.

"Oh, really~?"

Sucy glares up at her and shrugs.

"I dunno what you're talking about. And should someone who just got detention be smiling like that?"

"Guhh…" Akko slumps back onto her table now as everyone else begins filing out of the room. "All right… you guys go on without me… Leave me behind!"

"Don't be so dramatic," Lotte chuckles. "It's only for an hour."

"Perhaps," Professor Finneran calls out. "I could shorten it to half an hour if you were to start cleaning up that broken glass, Miss Kagari."

"Oh!" Akko shoots right up out of her seat and dashes to the supply closet at the other side of the room, then dashes back to start sweeping up the glass on the floor. Her friends slowly wave and file out, leaving her for the time being.

Lotte heads off to the library with Hannah and Barbara, leaving Diana and Sucy along together in the hallway. Both witches had made sure to keep their schedules clear for this afternoon for their date, so they have nothing to do now until Akko is released.

"So…" Sucy drawls. "What do you wanna do while we wait?"

Diana flashes her a brief glance as she thinks it over.

"It sounded to me as though Professor Finneran might be merciful and let her go early. Until then, I suppose we should wait for her at our intended spot, no?"

Sucy shrugs again as she continues following beside Diana.

"Guess so."

They don't speak much as they head down the hallways together, but where most people might interpret it as awkward silence, for Sucy and Diana, it's a comfortable one. Even when Akko isn't around to chatter away, the two of them have grown to appreciate the other's mannerisms and tendencies.

They make their way to the exit doors and outside into the beautiful afternoon, where dozens of other witches are already enjoying themselves eating snacks and chatting together at the various picnic tables. Sucy and Diana head for a nearby bench to sit and wait for Akko.

Sucy has an idea or two of what she might like to do to pass the time. But as she turns to Diana now, she isn't at all surprised to find the white-haired witch pawing through her school bag for a textbook to leaf through. Diana begins reading with the same studious expression as ever.

Sucy stares in disbelief for a moment, but decides she can still have her fun as intended like this. She starts things off with a long sigh, one that gets Diana's attention.

"Sucy? Is everything all right?"

"Yeah," she grunts. "Guess I shouldn't be surprised that all you wanna do is study more."

Diana blinks, clearly puzzled.

"I thought it would be best to use our time wisely until Akko arrives."

"Sure," Sucy nods. "But don't you think we could be using our time wisely in other ways?"

Diana closes her book slowly.

"Whatever could you mean?"

Sucy groans, putting a hand to her forehead.

"You might be super smart with the academics, but you're still really not good with this kind of thing, are you?"

Diana tilts her head and her brow furrows now.

"Sucy, I truly am not sure what you mean…"

"Think about it for a sec," Sucy offers. "You and me are dating, right? And we're out here alone together for a change. What do you think?" To make her point clearer, Sucy slides and inch closer to her on the bench. Diana tenses up a little bit, and a blush begins forming on her face.

"I… I see… but perhaps not when there are so many other people around…?"

"Come on. Akko's kissed both of us in front of the whole cafeteria before," Sucy reminds her.

"Th… That is true…" Diana sighs, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. "I suppose it's no surprise to anyone that the three of us are involved."

"Yeah. Literally everyone knows." Sucy slouches back against the bench fully. "But if you don't wanna do that sort of thing here with me, I won't force you. It was just an offer."

"An offer?" Diana blinks. "From you?"

"Yeah. Why not?" Sucy mumbles. "I like you too, after all…"

Diana's blush deepens a tiny bit. She's actually rather touched by the sentiment.

"I like you too, Sucy... Of course I do. Then perhaps we can take things one step at a time?"

"Sure," she agrees. "I guess going a little slow could be nice after always moving at Akko's pace. Then why don't we start here?" Sucy slips her sleeve out of her uniform's pocket and offers her hand. Diana fidgets a little nervously, but eventually brings her own hand to rest over hers.

"This is rather nice," she says. In response to Diana's smile, Sucy wears a smirk.

"Is it just me, or are your palms a little sweaty?"

"Eh? Oh, th-then please excuse me-" Diana begins fishing through her pocket for her handkerchief, but Sucy grabs both her hands now to stop her.

"Chill out, I was just kidding. Geez, you really are so uptight sometimes, Diana."

"Eh? Oh, I see…"

"But your hands really are sweaty though."

"Eh?"

"Again, kidding." Sucy has to admit she probably shouldn't be teasing her so much, but it's just too much fun to see the refined Diana Cavendish turn into a blushing mess because of her. Sucy decides to play it up for all it's worth.

"Say," she grins. "You're really pretty, you know that, Diana?"

"Eh…?" Diana's face turns even redder now and she quickly looks away. "Wh-Where is this coming from all of a sudden…?"

"It's not really coming from anywhere. I've always thought so. Just never really got the chance to tell you." And Sucy blushes a tiny bit too this time, because that much is actually true. But it's Diana she wants to fluster, not herself. She slides a little closer, until their thighs are brushing. "Hey, Diana-"

"Y… You too…"

"Say what now?"

Diana turns to face her properly again, though she's still cherry-red.

"I… have always thought you were rather pretty as well, Sucy…"

Sucy hadn't been expecting that; an honest reaction from Diana with only the purest of intentions. She'd meant her comment to Diana too, but had mainly said it right now to tease her. Sucy can feel her cheeks heating up more now.

"Thanks…" She hadn't expected Diana to turn the tables on her like this without even trying. She's something else, I'll give her that…

But Sucy plays to win, even if it's up against Diana Cavendish. Normally, she wouldn't care or put in much effort to most things, but this is something she wants.

So after another moment, Sucy slowly begins slipping her fingers through Diana's to intwine them. Diana stiffens again.

"Sucy… you're being rather forward today…"

"And you're being pretty cute."

Diana turns and even darker shade of red, and Sucy's smirk widens a bit devilishly.

"Hey, Diana~"

"Y-Yes?"

"Can I kiss you?"

Diana bites her lip and squeezes her eyes closed.

"I… wouldn't be opposed…"

Sucy has to try not to chuckle out loud. She should have some limits of how much to tease her, after all. And at this rate, if she keeps it up for too much longer, Diana might pass out. She wants to see just how close she can get to that limit without pushing over.

Slowly, Sucy reaches out her other hand to Diana's hip, turning her toward her a bit more. Diana keeps her eyes closed and waits, hoping Sucy can't hear how quickly her heart is beating. And Sucy just poses a guess for fun, but ends up hitting the nail right on the head.

"Hey, Diana? Your heart's beating pretty quick right now, isn't it?"

"N-Not at all…"

"You stink at lying."

Sucy leans in slowly, curling her nails into Diana's uniform a little to bring her closer. She pauses a few inches shy of Diana's lips, just to let it all soak in.

But by now, Diana is probably getting very close to the 'passing out' limit, so Sucy ends her games here.

She closes her eye as well and finishes what she started.

Diana had been expecting a taunt, or at the very least to hear Sucy snicker against her lips. But instead, the kiss is rather soft and warm.

Diana remembers how to breathe and relaxes a tiny bit, giving Sucy's fingers a squeeze. Sucy lets the kiss last, enjoying it for a moment, whereas Akko's kisses usually last only a few seconds. Diana seems to be in-tune with her now as well and kisses back.

And for a moment, they don't even mind if anyone else sees.

At last, they finally ease apart, both somewhat flushed now.

"My…" Diana sighs. "That was quite something, Sucy…"

"I guess…"

But before they can say anymore, there's another voice.

"Sucy! Diana! I'm-! ….Ahhh! You guys started without me?!"

And before either of them can understand what's going on, Akko throws herself onto the bench between them and wraps an arm around each of her girlfriends, pulling them close.

"Akko?!"

"Sheesh. Way to ruin the mood…"

"Aww, don't be like that, Sucy! Look, you can kiss me too~!"

"Don't wanna."

"Waaah?! No fair! You were just kissing Diana!"

"A-Akko, please! Keep your voice down…"

The trio of witches banter on for a moment before Akko jumps to her feet, pulling both of them along by the hands with her.

"C'mon! Let's get started on our picnic!"

And as usual, both Sucy and Diana are swept up in her undertow.

But this time they share a smile with one another as they follow along after her.
