Night had taken over Karakura Town with the star filled sky presenting itself as well. The streets were completely silent and most of the lights were turned off. However, inside the Kurosaki Clinic there was a much younger looking Ichigo, presumably around 9 years old, laying on his bed, and with his mother, Masaki, just putting the bed sheets on him.
"So Ichigo, when will you be able to beat Tatsuki someday?" Masaki asked with a bit of teasing on her part.
The childish Ichigo pouted his lips. "Ah come on mom! I managed to get a hit from her on the last match!"
Masaki giggled at this. "So, what made you decide to take up karate anyways? I keep forgetting to ask you that." she asked.
The young Ichigo blinked his eyes from that. "Well uh, that one is a secret." he said.
"Oh come now, you wouldn't tell that to your own mother?"
Kid Ichigo sheepishly rubbed the back of his head from that, but then he looked like he remembered something as he looked at his mother. "Hey mom, can I ask you something? There's something that's been going on in my mind for a while."
"Oh?" Masaki said with curiosity, wondering what was something her child wanted to ask her. "And what that may be?"
"So, let's say that you had the power to help someone, anyone for that matter. In fact, if you had the power to save strangers and you beat the bad guy that stood in your way, would you save those people?"
Masaki looked at him with a surprised look on her face. This had caught her off guard, as she had never expected that her little Ichigo would ask her such a question like that. "I'm...not sure. Why do you ask something like that?"
"Well, it's just that, I've been watching some cartoons lately, mainly superhero ones like the one with that Superman guy. He saves people all the time but he doesn't know who they are at all. There were some other ones where other characters had these cool superpowers like the one where someone has this weird watch that lets him turn into aliens and he saves people as well. I think there were more but I can't remember the names. So I had this thought where I asked myself… what if I had superpowers too? What would it be like to save some strangers that I don't know? To protect them?'
Masaki paused for a moment to think about this carefully before she spoke. "Well I'm not sure how to say this correctly to you, but I just think that maybe it would be for the best right now if you could just focus on protecting the people that you're familiar with. I'm not sure if focusing on strangers would be such a good idea dear."
"Hmmm, yeah I guess you're right. Night mom." Ichigo said turning over to his bed
"Good night my little protector." she said in a smile as she went over at her son's door closing. "Make sure you always remember what you are."
"Don't worry. I won't forget that."
Once again, normal came by.
Of course it did.
The day just started like any other day. Crazy father attacking him in the morning. Greeting his sisters and getting his breakfast started. Going to school as usual, all the while getting some greetings from all his friends. There wasn't any Hollow activity going on. Well that was good. After the entire situation from rescuing Rukia from the Soul Society, and the recent battle that came from the Bounts, he would say it's about time he got some rest. Besides, he still needed to uphold an image of himself.
His teacher, Ochi, came in to carry some glassed boxes, where inside of them were some spiders. Most just looked like normal spiders for him. Not really much of an interest to care about. Though there was one spider that had colors of red and blue on it. It was strange. He never heard of some spider with red and blue colors before.
He heard Tatsuki asking just what exactly was all of this for. He and the rest of the class had gotten an explanation. Apparently what all of this was about was an assignment for the rest of class, as some task to take care of the animals, as some responsibility or whatever it was.
"—Ichigo! Are you even listening to what I'm saying?!"
"Hm?" Ichigo barely glanced his head to look over at what his teacher was talking about. "Yeah, I am." he answered her.
Ochi sighs and pinched her nose. "Whatever, the instruction manual is on the right side of the box and yeah you'll know the rest..." she then made an excited smile."That's right! I almost forgot something! I wanted to announce that there are going to be 4 new students arriving! I'm not sure when they'll come, but they should be here very soon!"
Most of the class had to whisper about the news. But Ichigo could care far less about it. He then heard his new Combat Pass ringing by for a Hollow alert. He made a quick excuse and started to leave, being completely unaware that Tatsuki had seen the Pass earlier despite it being a powerful barrier for humans.
A day already passed by, and so far things were going except well. He was trying to take care of the spider that he had been given with, which was the red and blue one. This is what had happened throughout the day. It had been nighttime now from where he was at. His new Combat Pass had taken another ringing, which caught Ichigo off guard.
"I DON'T WANNA BE IN THIS BODY ANYMORE! I WANNA BE IN MY HEAVEN! I'M SUPPOSED TO BE A CHICK MAGNET HERE, DAMN IT." Kon wailed, not taking care of any more suspension of being stuck in this plushie body.
"I think you look better with a sock on your mouth! And be quiet, everyone in the whole house will hear you!" remarked Ichigo in annoyance, and gave some warning for the plushie to listen to.
"Oh yeah?! Well you're just jelaous that you're not as cudly as I am! And to be perfectly honest, this lion ain't lying!" Kon exclaimed. ''And to be perfectly clear, you're a pain in the butt! I'm just being in your body, all that peeping in the windows and under skirts didn't ruin my reputation, it only ruined yours!"
Ichigo loses attention to the spider, and brought his major annoyance of the mention of his career. "Damn it, Kon! That better be a joke! Don't tell me you were doing something illegal there!"
Kon had then bursted into overdramatic tears. "Being locked up was bearable when Rukia was around! OH, RUKIA, PLEASE COME BACK! COOOOOOOOME BAAAAAAAACK!" he screamed so loudly that you would have figured the entire house would have heard something.
"Why you—" Ichigo saw a fly right infront him, and he quickly squashes it before opening the box, and let the fly fall which made the spider eat its food. He was about to fully close the box, but he heard his sister calling him for dinner. Having no choice, he went down for dinner. Except for the fact he carelessly left the box open. And the spider was starting to be left out of its cage.
Dinner had been over relatively quickly. And once more his father had tried to attack from different places where he had been at. So in short he hadn't eaten too much out of the sheer annoyance Ichigo felt. So with that said, Ichigo had returned to his room, but when he had done so, he saw that the spider was chasing around Kon.
Damn, it looked as though he forgot to close the box. Now he would have to figure out how to get it back in
"Ichigo, help me! This thing won't stop chasing me!" Kon was running in circles, getting away from the out of its container.
Ichigo sighed before he began trying to catch the spider since there wasn't anything in his room useful to catch, so he settled with his bare hands instead. It took a minute, but he caught the spider with his hands. He had tried to put it back in the container, but the spider in his hands managed to still have some fight, as it had opened its mouth to bit Ichigo's hand there.
"Gah, fucking hell!" Ichigo cussed, as he instinctively let his hands go, making the spider fall down to its cage. Ichigo quickly closed the box so that it wouldn't just be let free again.
"You alright?" Kon asked
"Yeah..." Ichigo made a small hiss as he looked down on his hand that he got bitten by. "Just a little bite. It's no big deal."
Ichigo opened his eyes but he blinked severeal times. He opened them again with his head tilting around, looking where he was at. 'What the — where am I? This isn't my room.' he thought to himself. He knew where he was at, this was the hospital part of the house. But why was here? Did his hody somehow sleepwalk all the way here?
He then saw Yuzu walking in, holding a tray with medical suplies which looked like it could fall off right now with how her arms were shaking. The tray had then fallen off, and Ichigo's body reacted on its own, he got to pick up the medical supplies by taking the tray from Yuzu's hands. He lowered his back and in a matter of seconds managed to catch all the supplies and put them back on the table.
It took Yuzu's mind to register as to what had occurred, and so did Ichigo. But Yuzu had been more cheerful over that her brother had woken himself up. "Ichigo! You're awake now!"
"Huh?" Ichigo looked over at his sister with a semi confused look. "Well, of course I am. Why wouldn't I be? Wait, what exactly am I doing here?" he asked her. 'What just happened? It felt like my body moved by reflex alone.'
Yuzu didn't really answer hin, but instead she got of the room so that she could inform her twin sister and her father about him waking up. He didn't get it. What was all the fuss about? She talked as if he had been in some coma or something. He didn't get to think long before the rest of his family got in the room.
"I'm surprised you're already up." Karin spoke with her arms folded. ''I would think you're still in bed."
"What are you even talking about? I feel perfectly fine" Ichigo answered in irritation. "If this is some prank you guys are pulling on me, then it's not funny at all."
"What prank? You really don't remember what happened at all?" Karin said, in confusion. "Last night you were kinda yelling out. You looked really sick as well. So all of us kinda carried you here to figure what was with you."
"Really?" Ichigo asked. "Weird. I barely remember anything that happened." though when he thought about it... He did feel a burning sting that was very uncomfortable, but other than that, that was about it.
It was then at that moment that Isshin decided to charge at Ichigo by jumping off the floor and raise his leg at Ichigo, but Ichigo reacted far faster by grabbing his dad's face and pinning him down on the floor. "What the hell, old man?! Are you nuts?!" Ichigo yelled out.
"How could I be?!" Isshin grumbled under his son's hand. "I had to check out the proper way if you were alright like you claimed to be!"
"You couldn't have done anything else that didn't involve attacking me?!" Ichigo grunted, his agitation increasing more. That was until that he started to leave with his hands in his pockets. ''I'll just grab a quick bite to eat and head off to school. "
"Wait, but Ichigo—"
"Forget it. You're not gonna change my mind at all."
Later on, after Ichigo had gotten a quick snack and dress up in his school uniform, he started heading off to the usual path of school he took. 'It's weird.' he thought about back when he caught those supplies, and the way he stopped his dad's usual antics. But something was very odd about them. There was something ringing in his head for when his dad attacked him. 'How did I do all that? That felt like it was pure reflex itself. And then there was that weird ring in my head. What was that about?' he thought to himself
He then felt it again, but it felt more clear. Ichigo had only crossed the street halfway there when he looked at a truck coming at him. Moving on instinct, Ichigo leaped out of the way, where his hands and feet had sticked to a building.
"Holy shit! That was a close... call...?" Ichigo realized what he had done, and he looked carefully to see what he had actually done. "What the fuck?!"
Ichigo accidentally let go, and he fell down on the concrete ground, but the impact did hardly anything to him at all. He looked at his hands and he could see tiny microscopic barbed cilia emerging from his fingertips. He almost couldn't believe it. "What is going on with me?!"
Bloody hell, how many times have I re edited this chapter by now? It's kinda ridiculous how many times I had to do this. Well this chapter shouldn't be too cringry too anymore now that I managed to edit it.
For those who have their first reading this, the first few chapters would have a bumpy road to go through, but I swear the experience of this at the very end will be absolutely worth it. I improved a lot since I first wrote this, and you won't be disappointed when you get to the end of it.
