So I decided against pairing Harry with Tabitha now and am lost as who else to pair him with.

Chapter 16

Henri listened to the talk in the market, the Byzantine Empire and Persia were once again at war. He was pretty sure the Empire was meant to fully end sooner or later and he doubted that would change here since they had fallen to outside forces. Macedon was keeping out of the fighting but using mercenaries to try and profit from it.

Within a hundred years, the Empire had lost all of its African territory and but was working with Bulgarian Empire and Macedon/Greece. Christianity was flourishing and spreading throughout the world, seeing a massive decline in the worship of 'pagan' deities. He knew the signs to watch, many Pantheons were fighting each other for power, absorbing the followers and roles of those they defeated in order to survive. He wasn't worried for his Mother; she was old and very powerful.

Harald watched the raiding party as they got ready to leave for Britain. He had no interest in participating in a Viking raid on his homeland. He was better of remaining behind to help ensure the villages' safety while most of the men were off raiding. He was a teacher and healer, not a fighter.

He watched from the back of the crowd as King Aethelstan the Glorious united the heptarchy of The Anglo-Saxon nations of Wessex, Sussex, Essex, Kent, East Anglia, Mercia and Northumbria, thus founding the Kingdom of England. The layout of the world was becoming more familiar every year.

He stayed away from politics, he'd had no large role in things since General Chares had retired and it was better that way. He worked in the background to keep things stable when not hunting Daimons, he had to be careful when he did. He didn't want to come to the attention of the other Greek gods or the Dark Hunters, even though he suspected Speirr wasn't the only one among them he knew.

He kept his eye on certain countries and families, though he had to use magic to do so, names had changed too over the centuries. His descendants were still out there thankfully, which meant there was plenty of Apollo's blood still around. Thankfully, only two had gone daimon and someone had dealt with them before he could, sparing him that ghastly duty .

He frowned as he looked over the dead, this was no plague. The manor of death was very distinctive, these were daimon kills. How many had there been to wipe out a whole town? What on earth was going on? Where were the local Dark Hunters or had they fallen first? Scotland was still a remote land but the numbers of dead had still been noticed. If they didn't stop soon, who knew how far it would spread. Daimons had become myths since he had first arrived in this world, people no longer knew of them or how dangerous they were.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

He walked into what should have been the village of Taberleigh, finding only more death and destruction.

"The cause has been dealt with."

He turned to see his Mother staring at the bodies in grief. "Daimons?"

"Thanatos," she clarified and he frowned.

"Thanatos? These are not non-violent deaths."

"Artemis' pet, not the god he was named for. He was unleashed to kill a rogue Dark Hunter stationed in Scotland, only to go rogue himself. He summoned Daimons and Apollites alike to slaughter the humans. Unlike them, he is a daywalker and is almost invulnerable. The story of a plague was spread first by humans and then encouraged by Acheron himself to cover the truth. He killed Thanatos last night," Hecate explained as they moved about the dead, ensuring their bodies were burnt since they were meant to have died from a plague.

Henry ducked a sword blow that would have taken his head off, his own blade sinking into a gap in his opponents armour. He glanced around the battle, seeing far too many fallen on both sides. He had known this battle was coming for years and there was nothing he could do to stop it, the Normans wanted England and William would not be stopped. At least he knew for a fact that King Edward had never named William his heir, despite their blood relation, he'd always wondered if it was true or not. Now he was fighting in the Battle of Hastings to keep the Normans out. He could stop it, but magic was the work of the devil to people now and he didn't really want to be hunted as a witch.

In the end, William the Conqueror became King of England but with less of the Norman nobility taking over. He did enjoy watching the tower of London built eleven years after the battle.

Harold listened to the announcement from the Pope with far less enthusiasm then those around him. Pope Urban had declared the Crusade to capture the Holy Land, and to repel the Seljuk Turks from the Byzantine Empire under Emperor Alexios I Komnenos. Honestly, he hadn't realised the Byzantine Empire was still around by this point, maybe it hadn't been in his world? Was this the beginning of the 'Crusades'? if it was, he was staying well away from the East, that mess was not something he wanted to get involved in at all.

"Uncle Henry!"

He caught the laughing seven-year-old and spun him. "Hello William, how have you been?"

"Great! Did you bring me any presents?"

"William! Leave your Uncle be," his Mother, Anna, chided and Henry kissed her cheek, making her laugh.

"You have been away too long," she told him as they walked back to the house.

"Did you see the Pope?" William asked.

"No, I saw a lot of very old buildings though." Some of the remains belonged to buildings he'd once helped destroy; others he had helped finance the building of at different points of Rome's history.

"Did you hear? They started building a University! Can I go?"

Henry laughed. "When you are older." The University of Oxford would take years to build, even with his careful donations. He had missed Anna and William while travelling. It was nice to have a home for a while, even if William thought he was his uncle, he knew Anna had hoped for more after he had rescued them from bandits and looked after them, but he was not looking for a wife.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

"William think of your Mother," Henry tried to reason with the man he had known since he was a baby.

"Uncle Henry, this is important," William argued as he packed his things. "You heard what they did at Edessa."

"England is not sending her armies to re-take the city. It is folly."

"It is the right thing to do!"

Henry watched him storm away, at thirty-seven he had hoped William would be more reasonable but he had always been passionate. He didn't remember a lot about the Crusades…except most were a disaster for the invading armies in one way or another. Three days later, having shed his glamour, a twenty-year-old Hadrian boarded the same ship as William to set sail and join the Crusade. If he could not talk him out of going then he would go with him to ensure he made it home safely.

Tired of the Crusades and the Church, he landed in Japan the same year that Minamoto no Yoritomo was appointed Sei-i Taishōgun, or shōgun for short. Military dictators could be dangerous, but he really needed a change. He stayed for four hundred years until the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, known as the unifier of Japan.

He returned to England for the last few years of the reign of Elizabeth I before eventually sailing to the New World and settling in Jamestown.

Events and their times that aren't from the books were gotten off of Wikipedia.

Yes, it's filler because I am not covering such a large period in depth.

Poor Harry, missed his youngest son by mere hours in Scotland.
