One More Drink

Or maybe we could stick around
For just one more drink

Lily stared at the overdue library book the rested on the table as she fingered the aquamarine blanket that laid over her lap. She thought about mentioning the book to Regulus, but it seemed like such an inane thing to do. It was a way to distract them from the inevitable, and he'd see right through it.

Meanwhile, Regulus was staring out of the window, looking at the stars. His back was ramrod straight, his curly black hair perfect. She couldn't see his grey eyes, but she knew they'd be piercing in their laser focus. "So, maybe you should get home. I'm sure Potter is wondering where you are by now."

Lily bit her bottom lip. All she wanted to do was stay there with Regulus, be with him in every way possible. But how could she? She was a married woman. Maybe the marriage was a mistake—done in haste out of fear because of the war—but she had said the vows, so she was trapped in a loveless relationship.

There wasn't any such thing as divorce in the wizarding world either. Wizards and witches took marriage very seriously, and once you took that step, you were stuck, even if you changed your mind about your spouse afterward.

"I guess."

Regulus turned around to stare at her. "Unless..."

"Unless?" she asked hopefully, moving to the edge of the couch.

"Maybe you could stick around. For one more drink?" He gestured to a bottle of Firewhiskey on the counter.

Lily knew it was wrong. The last thing she should do was let her inhibitions be lowered, but she didn't want to leave him yet, and if staying for a drink was a way to stay... "Okay. Pour me a glass."

Regulus strode over the counter. He summoned a couple of glasses, opened the bottle, and poured half a glass worth of alcohol in each glass. He grabbed the glasses, walked to her, handed her one glass, and sat down next to her on the couch.

They were so close. If the blanket hadn't been on her lap, there would have been skin-on-skin contact. Her skin felt itchy at the mere thought of actually touching him.

They continued drinking. The half a glass doubled. Regulus even grabbed a second bottle and opened it.

In her head, Lily was thinking she should be getting home to James, but it felt so good to be there with Regulus.

For the first time, she felt like herself. Granted, it was herself that was giddy and giggly from drinking too much, but still, she felt real. Lily leaned into Regulus more and more as the minutes passed and more Firewhiskey was consumed.

Regulus rested his hand on her head. "I wish you weren't married."

"I wish I wasn't married, too."

"I want you so much," Regulus whined.

Lily's emerald eyes darkened. "If you said that before I got married but too late now." A pout formed on her lips. "Not fair. I should be allowed divorce if mistake made." She knew her words were jumbled, but the alcohol had quickly gone to her head.

Regulus dropped his glass, and the dark liquid spilled onto the carpet, but he didn't even look at it. He took the glass she held and threw it across the room.

"Want you. Might not be able to have you as my wife, but I'll have you tonight."

"What—" she tried to ask, but Regulus' lips sealed over hers. She knew she should try to fight back, but his lips tasted so good, and she felt herself leaning into the kiss and returning it.

She moaned as she closed her eyes. She knew a drunken encounter would be the closest thing to being with Regulus she'd get, and she'd take it.
