Hello! So, this is another really old piece that I published...shoot, over a year and a half ago. The work is good, but there were some formatting issues, and also that teensy weensy little detail called a disclaimer. Whoops.
So here is the updated, properly credited version of The Broken and Forgotten Child.
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing. The Inheritance Cycle belongs to the brilliant Paolini. The magnificent story Selena Was A Wicked Woman written by Stream'sxCupxOfxTea was the inspiration behind this piece, so you guys really need to go check that out. It is truly spectacular and heart-wrenching.
Enjoy!
Selena was a wicked woman—
Or so the children say.
They say she left her son to die
As the other she took far away.
'
But her son she left with the dragon-man,
Who reached out with burning hands
To cut and bruise and burn and scar
The child's barely beating heart.
'
Selena was a wicked woman,
Or so the children say
That desperate to escape the flames,
He finally ran away.
'
But the dragon-man had longer arms,
And not a one believed him
When he swore he meant no harm.
'
They saw not a child, not an innocent young man—
No, they only saw the brand of the dragon-man,
The one the man gave him with cruel, burning hands.
'
Yes, they say Selena was a wicked woman,
And I'd have to say the same.
She abandoned one to protect the other,
And some would think to call her brave.
'
But Selena was a wicked woman,
And I will tell you why.
While the one she rescued grew up tall,
Free beneath the sky,
The one she abandoned grew in fear,
In a cold and empty hall.
'
Selena was a wicked woman,
But many call her brave.
They praise the way she escaped her binds,
But like the children say:
'
Selena was a wicked woman,
Because there was another child;
The broken and forgotten child—
The one Selena didn't save.
And there we go.
I hope you guys enjoyed! And really, go check out Selena Was A Wicked Woman. It is worth your while, and you will not regret it.
See you next time!
