Chapter 2

The next few days, Kaili was almost too nervous to do anything. She didn't know what to think because she was being practically adopted by Starfire. She was still unsure though because most of the court still seemed uneasy about her.

"She's one of our enemies…," a guard said.

"She's going to harm the princess in the long run," another said.

"We probably need to get rid of her while we have the chance," another guard said, now eyeing the young girl as she walked down the hallway with Starfire. As she did, she saw Blackfire come down the way and she growled at seeing Kaili.

"She's never going to be one of us," Blackfire scoffed.

"Blackfire, enough!" Starfire said angrily.

"Come now, look at her! She looks pale green and will never be part of our clan. It's for the best that she leave," Blackfire said in a scoff once more.

Now hanging her head, Kaili turned and began to walk towards the door. Blackfire laughed and continued walking to her room as Starfire flew after Kaili.

"Kaili…wait," came a gentle voice.

"Sorry, Your Highness, but it's time for me to head home now," Kaili said, now almost to the door.

"Wait a moment…what home? You have been living practically alone. You're not going anywhere." Starfire soothed, now levitating in front of her with crossed arms.

"Please let me leave…," Kaili said, tears coming to her eyes.

"Kaili, I can't do that. You mean a lot to me…I know that you're upset but I can't let you leave," Starfire smiled calmly.

"But I GAHHHHHH!" She said in surprise, now ducking down and trying to get away from the princess, who tried to grab her.

"Hey, wait a second," Starfire said, now looking over her shoulder and taking off after the young girl. The guards were in awe as Kaili was trying to leave but Starfire was after her and definitely not letting her get away. "Kaili, I'm going to get you!"

"Wait, please!" She panicked.

"Nope," Starfire laughed, now diving after her and trying to grab her around the waist. But the moment that she did, the two of them landed in a heap of pillows and carpet. Starfire stuck her head out and saw Kaili shaking her head to get her senses back.

"Whoa, what a ride…," Kaili said, now giggling as Starfire leaned over and nuzzled her nose against hers.

"You're coming with me," Starfire said, now pulling the girl free of the pillows and lifting her into her arms.

After a few minutes, Kaili was in a change of clothes and she gasped as she saw another young person, but he was a Tamaran like Starfire. He gave her a small smile in greeting, but Kaili looked the other way in concern. Starfire stepped back, wanting to see how they would greet each other. The male Tamaran was one of the errand boys for the palace.

"Hello," he greeted.

Silence.

"Hey…I said hello," he greeted once more with a chuckle.

Silence. Kaili then ducked her head and looked away.

"Wait a moment," he smiled, now standing closer to her. "Come here."

"S-Stay away…," Kaili said, now backing away more.

"You're the new assistant to princess Starfire. Don't be scared of me. I'm one of the errand boys here," he winked.

"I'm not scared of anything!" She said in frustration. Starfire was so pleased; she knew this boy and he was never judgmental and always kind. He chuckled and gently grabbed Kaili's hair and gave a playful tug.

"Hey! Stop it!" She said, now trying to push him back, but she also noticed one thing. He had only one arm. He gave her a smirk and touched her chin.

"We all are different in our own ways, but you will like it here." He smiled.

"T-Thank you, I did not know…," she said.

"That he had a bad arm? Because that is what it's about here," Starfire smiled. "We look after each other and a difference doesn't mean anything."

"Maybe I'll see you later?" He winked, now giving her a big smile. "Welcome to the palace."

And with that, he flew away and Starfire gently tickled behind her ear. Kaili giggled and turned away from the gentle tickles.

"Now come here, you," Starfire said, giving her a hug.

"Thanks, Princess," came the gentle response.

"Hey…none of that. Call me Starfire," she said quietly.

"Thanks, Starfire," she said calmly. "For caring…,"

"Anytime, Kaili. You're one of us now…now let's go for a swim," the princess giggled, now picking her up and flying to the pool room. It definitely made her feel great that someone wanted to be her friend.
