It is said that many centuries ago, when history was remembered by word of mouth, and not from books, that a great wizard, nearing Death's door, left this world for another, but that's a story for another time.
When he went, he hid his greatest treasures. His texts, some of the first of their kind, his staff, for this was a time before wands, and his sword, no wise man relies solely on only one form of protection.
He sealed them in a tomb, away from civilization, and hid all knowledge of its location. There was an inscription on the door to the crypt, and it read:
Only the heir
Shall be the first
To enter here
However, he did leave the knowledge with one person, his last apprentice. He told his student that one day, his successor shall be born, and should be hidden from the word, but not secluded from it.
The appearance of his heir will be a herald. The King is returning, the Heir of Arthur. The wizard, the most renowned of all, was Merlin.
And this is the story of his heir.
