Justice for the Soul

Chapter 3

New Teacher

This was truly a sad, pathetic, and all around low moment for the Justice League, they had been beaten down many times before now, thought to be dead, survived extinction, one was a marine, one a refugee from another planet far from her home, an amazon warrior, and a speedster. However, the situation they found themselves in now was just terrible and hopeless, no matter what they did to try and beat their enemy, it was met with futility to the point of sad and a little bit comical to those that were watching, that being Kisuke and a large man named Tessai Tsukabishi. So, who was the monster that was beating on the league so badly, especially with Batman being trained personally by Yoruichi, it was actually two monsters, two tiny, thin, young, barely coming past the league's waists kids, a boy named Jinta Hanakari and a girl named Ururu Tsumugiya. That's right, the league was getting their butts handed to them by kids, only armed with a set of boxing equipment, Ururu, and a baseball bat, Jinta, being powered by this reiatsu that seems to be able to beat a Kryptonian into the dirt like it was nothing, literally, it wasn't even a homerun swing. How the boy took down Superman was easy, simple and easy, but also hilarious to anyone watching and not in the experience, Jinta used Superman's own weakness of underestimating kids to his advantage and when Superman went to grab the bat out of his hands, swung it down in a flash. It was a low blow aimed for a couple balls that weren't meant to be played with like you would a baseball, and it was probably the first time he was hit there, because now he was on the floor and actually crying from the pain at having his balls hit by a baseball bat, it was a truly low point.

Green Lantern wasn't fairing any better, any construct he made to compete with the bat of doom failed miserably and was smashed into pieces with a simple swing, it wasn't even one of his Jinta home runs that they heard Kisuke comment on, he just swung his bat around lazily. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that the way he took out superman was so absurd and fast that it unnerved the others, thus giving Jinta enough time to actually think up a plan, a plan to prolong their suffering and make them wish for death sooner than later.

Flash was probably the worst off of the group going against Jinta though, all the boy had to do to stop Flash was to move to the side at the last second and hit his leg with the bat for the speedster to go tumbling away and slamming into the dirt. The speedster would have gotten up and a moment or two later, but Jinta had the bright idea to get on top of him and slam his bat into Flash's leg repeatedly, not enough to actually break the legs, but close enough to it that the speedster was down for quite a while.

Wonder Woman thought it would be easier than what they thought it would be, she was wrong, the little girl didn't look like she had much experience fighting, looked too fragile, but the girl packed a punch that would put herself to shame, that reiatsu was no joke, not funny one bit. She was a proud warrior, bred for combat and bloodshed, but this little girl countered every single one of her moves with one of her own, a simple jab here, hook there, even a head-butt that should have cracked the girl's skull, Wonder Woman got the crack instead.

Hawkgirl was probably in the best shape compared to the others, only because she used her mace to block any damage from Ururu, the girl got a few lucky shots off on her face and arms, but other than that, she was in much better shape compared to the others, especially Flash. Her head and arms were killing her though, blocking strikes that could put Wonder Woman to shame were not easy to do, especially since those strikes were also attacking her soul and therefore attacking her body, but she's trying to compensate by using her mace, it was helping, but not much.

Martian Manhunter was doing good, somewhat, both his arms seemed to be broken, but since he's able to heal faster than most and turn his arms into boneless limbs, he could just be putting on an act to try and catch the girl off guard, or his arms could actually be broken. Other than that, he had quite a few bruises and scrapes, his left cheek was turning purple and his right eye was swollen from being hit one too many times, and it almost looked like his shoulder was out of socket, he didn't even know how that was possible for his race, but it looked that way.

Batman wasn't with the group that was getting beaten by the children, instead he was getting training from Yoruichi, direct training on how to bring out his reiatsu directly and utilize it, said that it would come in handy when fighting, that meant that all he was doing was meditation. That was it, meditation to find his inner soul, and what a prodigy he was, but maybe it was thanks to his previous training while also having a strong mental fortitude, either way he had accessed the spiritual power quicker than their previous trainee, Ichigo, the orange haired boy they saw. He accessed it two days ago, they had gotten here three days ago and now have been training for two and a half days, so far, the only one able to move on to where they were bringing out their reiatsu was Batman, in fact, he skipped straight to drawing out his reiatsu.

Eventually, Flash had enough and voiced some concerns he's had, "that's it, we've been here for two days and all you've done is have kids beat us down with bats and boxing equipment, but only Batman is able to move past that stage directly and go to meditation, what a joke."

Green Lantern was the next to voice his opinion, "hate to say it but Flash has a point, what's the point of agreeing to train us if all you've done is have kids beat us, what kind of training method is that, if you ask me, you don't have the first clue about how to help us, do you?"

"Don't worry, there's a method to my madness, I'm having Jinta and Ururu beat you guys to weaken your bodies to the point of completely braking, after that, I'm going to force your souls to leave your bodies, that will hopefully unlock any latent spiritual awareness you have. Batman can access his already, as seen when he fought against the Arrancar at the park, however you six still have yet to grasp it, so we need to unlock their potential the old fashion way," Kisuke said with a grin while trying to hold in some laughter at their weak forms.

"Can you at least tell us who comes in behind Bats, I'd like to know how far we have to work to get past him," Flash asked while trying to work out the pain in his legs, his super speed was helping him heal quite fast, but it still hurt like hell, damn that kid with a bat.

"Well, from what I can tell, after Batman comes Hawkgirl, then Martian Manhunter, after that is Wonder Woman, than Green Lantern, then you, and finally Superman takes last place, but I wouldn't count Batman among you six, he's leagues ahead of you," Tessai informed neutrally.

Flash's mouth was hanging wide open, he's close to last place, the scarlet speedster doesn't do anything less than first place, and now he was only one spot away from last place, what happened to the bats to make him so strong with this reiatsu thing. "Don't look so shocked, it isn't always the strongest physically, or the fastest, or the smartest that is gifted in the spiritual side, sometimes it's just luck of the draw or private training, sometimes it's a long-suppressed family trait," Kisuke explained hopefully a little better.

"I still don't like it, Batman has this whole thing about not having powers, that's how we identify him actually, the only man among a group of gods that can toe to toe with us, he always has a plan, and he never gives up, to imagine him with power though," Wonder Woman stated. She was being helped over by Hawkgirl, her body didn't look too good, her hair was a mess and her outfit was torn at a few places, Hawkgirl didn't look that bad as compared to her, a few bruises here and there, but nothing to bad that needed immediate healing.

"Why don't we stop talking about how superior Mr. Batman is and get to your identities, while you're staying here it would be best if you go by any names that you might actually have, and I suggest going out at night while in costume, regular clothes during the day," Kisuke suggested.

The League, minus a meditating Batman, all looked at one another and gave a nod, might as well reveal themselves since no one here would know who they are anyways, "my name is Clark Kent, or Kal-El if you want to use my birth name," Superman introduced himself.

"John Stewart," Green Lantern said flatly, he was still mad at the comments made about his lantern ring, along with rage at the kid who was beating them, beating them bad too, he's going to feel all those hits a week from now if he's unlucky enough.

Flash sighed, he didn't really want to reveal who he really was but he might as well, "Wally West," he pulled back his head covering to reveal his face completely, he had red hair and a few freckles, and his face almost made you think he was a kid with how young he looked.

"Diana, princess of Themyscira, home to the Amazons," Wonder Woman would have bowed out of respect for their culture, but she was afraid that if she did, she would topple over and land face first into the dirt, and she didn't want to cause further harm to come to her face.

"Shayera Hol," Hawkgirl sounded a little smug, only a little, she was basically in first place since Batman was apparently so far ahead of them that he counted in a different league than them, she would take off her helmet too if Diana didn't need her help standing up.

"J'onn J'onzz," Martian Manhunter said in a neutral expression, he didn't really have any problems with revealing his identity, nobody could search for him if they tried anyways, no matter what database they used, especially on this earth.

Kisuke looked at them with a deadpan stare, that were their names, some sounded American, such as Clark, John, Wally, and Diana, it was the other names that were strange, Kal-El, princess of Themyscira, Shayera Hol, J'onn J'onzz, those names were strange, even for him. "What about you mister Batman," he decided not to mention what he thought to the heroes, his comments to the Green Lantern were already not taken very well by the group, so he decided to ask the only plain human in the group for his name, he was met with silence.

"Don't take it personally, he doesn't trust anyone enough to tell them, I know it because of circumstances in the past that allowed me to know his name, and he still hates that I know it," Clark mentioned casually, he was used to Batman's way of thinking, even though he didn't like it.

"Yet you still know it, so don't say it," Batman growled out with a glare aimed for his 'friend', if you could call them that, he was walking over to them after finishing his meditation session, "you should also get back to your beating, he can't break down your bodies if you keep taking breaks."

Kisuke snickered at that, Tessai remained neutral, but he was trying his best to keep his laughter in, Yoruichi, who was walking over as well, didn't bother trying to hide her amusement with a big smile at the comment, the rest of the league groaned, even J'onn groaned, it was disturbing. "Awe, don't be like that, just imagine how powerful you all will get when you do harness reiatsu, you can easily erase the shame you feel at having the only standard human show you up on this," Kisuke said with a grin behind his fan, he was having just so much fun.

The league groaned again, but still got back to their beating, they refused to call this training, it was a beating, plain and simple, the others were grinning from ear to ear at their misery, but that soon turned serious when Yoruichi spoke, "I hope this doesn't crush them when they find out."

"It might, but what did they expect, each have reasons as to why they can't access their reiatsu, or just don't have it, Green Lantern might not even have enough of a soul left since that ring feels as though it blocks the path to it in favor of letting him use his own will to create things. Superman and J'onn don't feel as though they have any really, I think that's more do to them being aliens than anything else, when Tessai said that J'onn was in second place, he was lying, it was just to get them to evaluate their place and make sure they know to improve drastically. Flash uses this kind of force for his speed, I'll call it speed force, this speed force blocks all paths that the soul might take when being drawn out, if he dies, I'm not even sure that he can go to their afterlife with the way that speed force has a hold on him, sad but true statement. Diana is odd, her magic is nothing special, but there is a divine power that seems to be disrupting her soul chain, making it impossible for her to use reiatsu instead of her magic, her magic is powerful, no denying that, it's just not what she needs for this fight. Shayera is the odd one out of the bunch, she does have some natural spiritual awareness, don't know how though, but she has enough to qualify her for a fifth seat, fifth seat of squad eleven, that should tell you the amount she has right now, which is quite a bit. The only one that has enough power to be in this fight at all though is Batman, he already has spiritual talent greater than Ichigo ever had, able to draw out his reiatsu so easily, all that's left is to teach him how to use it, then he'll be quite powerful," Kisuke theorized.

"However, just to be sure though, I assume you're still going to train them until it has been confirmed that they don't have reiatsu at all, or can't access it, right," Batman asked with his infamous bat-glare aimed for Kisuke, who started to sweat at the glare, so he nodded rapidly.

"How can someone be that scary with a glare," Kisuke whispered to himself before straightening up at another glare, "anyway, Yoruichi, I think it's time to try and teach Batman here some hakuda, and if he gets that quick enough, start with…" he was interrupted by a familiar reiatsu. That reiatsu came from an old Japanese style door opening to reveal a group of people, that group of people consisted of a variety of people, a kid with white hair, a cherry blonde with a large bust, a red headed male with tattoos, a bald man, and a man with a… interesting hair style. "Awe, I didn't know you would be coming this soon, I thought we'd have more time before the head captain sent an advance force," Kisuke commented while approaching the group of people he seemed to be familiar with, "good to meet you all, I'm Kisuke Urahara, in case you didn't know."

"They know who you are Kisuke," a harsh voice said from behind the group, they parted to show who spoke, it was a woman of short stature that had a glare that seemed to be edged into her face, "it's good to see you lady Yoruichi," she said in a softer tone than when speaking to the man.

"Aw, Sui-Feng, you came as well, I thought you'd be too afraid to leave your squad in the hands of your lieutenant to come to the world of the living," Kisuke joked, which got him a double drop kick to the face courtesy of this Sui-Feng that sent him flying back and into a rock.

Those that didn't know of their… rocky relationship just sweat dropped from the scene before them while those that are aware just laughed humorously at the scene, when Sui-Feng straightened herself from perfectly landing she looked at Batman and asked, "is this the new recruit?"

She didn't sound very impressed with him at the moment, and Batman didn't seem at all that impressed with her either, he knew for a fact that Kisuke could have dodged that attack, why he didn't was lost on the bat, but he had a feeling she knew the reason, and that just aggravated her. "Yes, well, one of them, the other recruits are being beaten down so that we can unlock the spirit inside of them, however you might only end up with one other recruit, the one with the wings, her name is Shayera Hol, but she goes by the codename Hawkgirl," Yoruichi informed seriously.

Sui-Feng stared at them blankly for the moment before turning away from them to not look at them to keep from laughing, those names were ridiculous, and she had an image to keep, so she talked without facing them, "when you're ready to depart from this place, we'll go to soul society."

Batman interjected after that announcement, "we were never told about going to the soul society after they unlocked their reiatsu, what's going on Kisuke," he growled out with a glare at not being told the whole plan, he didn't like being uninformed about a plan, that wasn't his style.

"That wasn't the plan originally, but once the head captain learned of a human that could take on an Arrancar, he wanted to meet him and make sure he was trained properly, not being forced to dive in like Ichigo was, which is why Sui-Feng is here, she's going to take you to be trained." Another voice said and saw that there was yet another person, another short person that looked to belong in school as well, "the rest of us are going to stay behind and either help train the others to catch up or be protecting this town from any advanced forces that Aizen will send."

"I suggest you bring two others with you, those who are good at diplomacy, instead of just going by yourself and risk saying the wrong thing, the rest will stay here and continue training," Kisuke advised, he looked to be fine after just gotten kicked into a rock, just fine.

Batman thought about it and figured that the best ones to take for diplomacy would be Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman, J'onn would be able to calm things down with his natural calming nature, and Diana was literally a princes, meaning she was raised for diplomatic missions as well. "Diana, J'onn," Batman called over to them and watched as each was backhanded by Ururu because of the distraction he caused, they got back up with a glare directed at him, well, Diana glared, J'onn just looked a little aggravated at being hit because of a distraction. "Us three are going to soul society, the others are staying here, get ready to go," he ordered, they were about to protest when they remembered the humiliation they had suffered at the hands of the little girl, they decided to let the others suffer instead they were going to heaven.

"Now that is settled, get ready to go, we leave in five minutes, if you don't get through, you're left behind, they gate will not be open there in six minutes," Sui-Feng ordered harshly, it was clear her style was militant, meaning she didn't take anyone's crap, which was a good thing to Batman.

Yoruichi got a teasing idea though, "you should lighten up Sui-Feng, you'll never find a man if you don't have some fun now and again," she teased with a cat-like smirk, and the result was instant from the smaller girl, a large blush that made her turn to face the purplette with a 'lady Yoruichi.'

Batman didn't want to deal with this at the moment, so he said, "let's get moving," stoically so that they could hurry up and get this trip over with, it might be interesting to see an afterlife, but he was a realist, he didn't need to know about an afterlife that he'll never get to when he died.

Too bad Yoruichi had other ideas, "oh, is the big bad bat coming to my little bee's rescue, how cute, a dark knight in shining armor coming to save her from her cruel mentor's teasing," and that brought a blush from Sui-Feng that was hidden from her back being to the league. Batman didn't react at all, he just stoically stood there as if he was ignoring the woman, which earned him more teasing, "just remember you two, always use protection if you feel the need to get to know one another, you're too young to have little bats and bees."

Sui-Feng was fixing to have a mental breakdown right there from the insinuation, good thing that Batman was never going to show any signs to have being teased, "are we going to go to the afterlife now, or are we going to go there a different way," he asked as stoically as ever.

Sui-Feng coughed awkwardly in her hands to try and calm down the heat in her cheeks, "Batman is right, we should get going," she pulled out her Zanpakuto and stuck it into the air before twisting it, another Japanese style door formed and opened and they stepped through a blinding light.
