Chapter 1

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, but the plot is mine.

A/N: New story! I got random inspiration for this when I really missed my LaPush wolves. I just took off and now I've gotten a lot written, so here it is to share. Enjoy! :)

Raven wasn't entirely a stranger to La Push, Washington. She knew of First Beach that seemed endless, and it surely was if you measured it in the amount of laughter and smiles it enticed because nothing bad happened there. She knew of the single road that ran through the entire reservation because it was that small. She knew of the dark, beautiful skin of the people of the tribe with black hair as long and strong as their culture would suggest. She knew of the quaint school, bordered by the equally as small clinic. She knew about the bonfires that occurred in backyards that met the beach, about the overwhelming feeling that even though so infinitesimally small compared to the stars staring down at you, you mattered to the people around you.

One would think her a resident of the town.

And one would be as far from correct as one could get.

Raven grew up in Seattle Washington, born and raised. Her mother had passed on nearly two years ago after the birth of her second little brother, Ryker. Her first little brother had quickly become her not-so-little little brother. She'd never heard of a boy shoot up more than half a foot before her eyes, but it was Kyle. Kyle was never to be underestimated, not after locking Raven in the bathroom for an entire night. She was yet to hear an explanation from him or her dad, who surely should have heard her screaming to be let out. A week later, the only words she could get out of either of them, when they were even home, were, "We're moving."

So Raven didn't know La Push through childhood, but her mother had written about it with such description she felt like she did grow up there, in her second life within her dreams. There was a part of her that didn't hate that she was moving. It tried its best to reason with her, and it was doing a swimmingly good job. After all, she did agree to move. Contrary to popular belief, she was, in fact, twenty of her own free will, though she didn't look it. She supposed it was the Quileute blood in her keeping her looking younger than she actually was.

"Wolf." Raven closed her eyes. "Wolf. Wolf. Wolf. I see wolf!" Somebody had clearly taught Ryker a new word. He'd been doing that for the past three days, and the long car ride only made it worse.

"Why is Kyle the one who gets to ride with the hot guys while I get stuck with mister wolf here?" She groaned, head falling against the freezing window. Her eyes slid over coldly to the man owning the five-o'clock shadow.

"Ugh, like, why is my life so hard?" Her father, Luke Dubois, mimicked his daughter with a high-pitched voice. "Those boys are three years younger than you."

Raven rolled her eyes. They didn't look three years younger than her. They looked like they ate people like her for dinner. "Wolfie, wolife, I see wolfie!"

"How do you know them again?" Her eyes skirted across the seat to land on her father, wondering for the fiftieth time why three giants showed up hours from home to help them move into La Push. Her father gave no indication that it was even out of the ordinary, nor did he at the moment at her questions. With a background of rain, he hummed softly, as if everything was completely normal.

"Friends of your mother," he said quickly, like he'd had the answer ready. He didn't bother to explain why her mother would have – or could have – known boys so young. She gritted her teeth. "How did Ethan take the news?"

A smirk crawled its way upon her lips. His tone of voice alone made her fill with bemusement. "What? Your favorite person in the world?" Luke only gripped the wheel tighter. Raven laughed. "I'll definitely miss how much he got under your skin."

"He was a low-life DJ for a living."

"We weren't dating," she shrugged. "How do you think he took it? With one hit of a joint and a puppy dog pout."

Ethan was what she called her friend by default. Originally, he was Ethan's friend, but he was closer to her age, so he shifted to her 'friend' within a week, not that she had any say in it. While he had little motivation in life, and what motivation he did have was never directed on one thing for longer than a second, he was persistent when it came to being her friend. He wanted more, and never failed to make that clear, and Raven wanted somebody to get her into clubs for free and chat with from time to time.

"Raya sit here!" She turned around and watched Ryker point to the empty seat at his side. She looked back at Luke.

"Duty calls!" Without much struggle in her short stature, she climbed into the back next to his contraption for a car seat. "Ryker, how's it hanging?"

He held up a block. "I want wolfie."

That was how the entire four-hour long ride went, with the exception of when they rode over a ferryboat. Then, he was very intrigued at why daddy was driving with no hands. They stopped in Port Angles for food, though Luke had ulterior motives as well. Apparently, more of Mom's friends were helping them move into the house, and there were at least three females among the group (a relieving notion to hear…not!), all of whom could decorate the house better than he could. When Raven pointed out that she was a girl, they both burst out laughing, knowing Kyle had a better chance in the interior decorating world than she did. "Kyle should be getting there in an hour. It won't take them more than two to get it all out of the truck and in place with the number of guys they have helping…so let's kill some time. Hardware shop?"

Raven nodded vigorously. "I need new gloves. Kyle was borrowing them and he somehow must have…misplaced them while locking me in the bathroom. Funny how that task gets in the way."

Luke sent her a glare. She wiggled her eyebrows in surrender.

They spent some time in the shop, though there wasn't much to look at. Luke sighed heavily while Ryker tugged at his pants. Raven quickly lifted him into her arms, only to have him lick her cheek. "We'll be doing a lot of ordering up there, huh?"

Raven shrugged. "It's our own place, though. Now I'll actually be allowed to do more than hand you guys tools." Luke sent her a pleased smile, but she could tell he was still concerned. She didn't blame him. He'd been saving up for a while to buy his own garage shop, and she had been under the impression they'd needed at least another year to comfortably buy their own place. But there they were…moving to La Push.

. . .

The house was much different than their old one. They used to live in a small yet modern house that looked like it would smell of mold yet didn't. Originally, Raven was planning on moving out after college, still staying in Seattle though.

This new house was drastically different. It was simple to describe, though, because you could only call a house like this one thing: a log cabin. It looked new. At least three stories tall, it was towering in line with the trees. The wood was light-washed, thick, and sturdy. It looked homey and inviting.

The best part was that it was surrounded by trees. Tucked away in a small clearing, there was a small area of grass between the house and tree line. A set of steps led into the house that she was set on just calling the cabin. It looked like there were three sections with the door in the middle one.

"Raven," Luke called. She repositioned her backpack and spun around. There were a few boxes in the back of his truck to take in with them. "I had the boys move your things into the basement. It's just down the stairs, and there's a door in the back that goes straight from your room into the backyard. You mentioned something about privacy, and this is the best I can do for you."

Raven raised an eyebrow. She indeed had mentioned wanting a place of her own for privacy, mainly so her dad wouldn't try to weasel his way into her love life if she ever got one. But she never actually expected him to take it to heart. "Seriously?"

He nodded. "Go check it out. The rest of the rooms are on the third floor."

She was about to go bounding into the house before a thought squeezed at her brain. "Dad?"

"Hmm?" He huffed as he hoisted a third box on top of the two he was already holding.

"How did we afford this?"

He smiled tightly at her. "We took a few loans, Lo. Don't worry about it."

She nodded but couldn't force herself to move. "Dad?"

"What, Raven?"

He looked ready to topple over. She grabbed hold of the top box and forced a smile at him. "If anyone asks, my room is sectioned off from the rest of the house. I pay rent."

"You do pay rent," he commented. She grinned happily and bounded up the steps. Her 'rent' was about fifty dollars a month that came out of her paycheck, tax-free. Her dad owned the car shop for fuck's sake.

If the exterior was impressive, the interior was out of this world. It opened into a grand foyer with an open view of the entire living room. Straight across from the door was an extremely long couch fit to seat more than ten people. It faced a coffee table and TV, behind which was ceiling to floor windows that looked out at the trees. A few in front of her and to the right were the stairs that led upstairs. Beside the stairs was a quiet study with bookcases filled completely and a smaller sitting room. A bathroom fit beneath the stairs.

To the left, however, was a dining room as large at their old living room. The table could surely seat twelve people, if not more. The living room was continuous with a kitchen, also larger than expected. It even had a bar with four stools for quick breakfasts. And then...there was a door. She had a good feeling about this door.

Raven eagerly opened the door to find a narrow set of stairs. She walked down and had trouble catching her breath.

Her room was more than a room. It was an entire living area. The entire area was an open floor plan, save the bathroom. To her left was a small kitchen one could find in an expensive hotel room suitable for one or two people with a little bar to sit at. Straight away opened into a miniature living room. One large couch and two love-seats faced a coffee table and two sliding glass doors. Outside, there were pretty grey and white pebbles that blended into the grass.

To the right of that was a literal bar, fashioned with multiple full bottles of alcohol and glasses and materials to mix drinks with.

Did her dad kill somebody? Is that how they came into such money? This was not cheap. This wasn't something they could have bought even with an extra three years of saving up money.

Her bed was the final destination. It lied against the wall with a nice closet beside it. A desk sat across from it. The bathroom was located in the final corner. She walked in expecting a half bath and was greeted with much more counter space, a full stand up shower, and elegant glass shelves.

She'd died and gone to heaven.

"Dad!" She screamed, horrible images of her dad becoming a highly paid assassin filling her mind. "Daddd! Dad, this - I - I - DAD! WHAT IS GOING ON!?"

She'd never had to scream so loud to call her dad in her own house before.

Instead of being met with her somewhat scrawny, white, sarcastic father, she was met with three russet skinned, black haired, built as fuck men.

"What's wrong? Are you okay? Where is she?"

Raven blinked. It took her a few seconds to comprehend and come to terms with the three gorgeous men in her 'room.'

"Where's w-who?" She squeaked. Oh, nice one.

These were the three boys who'd come all the way to help them move in. They glanced wearily at each other before barking out in...laughter? Sure, it was laughter.

"Uh, hey, hello? Why are you laughing? Where's my dad? Feds get him?"

Again, they laughed, and she joined them this time. "Soooo...what're you doing here?"

They shrugged. "Emily told us to make sure you were happy with the house. Said to move anything around you wanted moved," said the giant on the right.

Emily was somebody she sort-of-knew. Her mother used to be close friends with her growing up. While Raven never met her, she'd heard a few conversations her mother shared with her over the phone. From what she gathered, Emily and Raven's mother, Jade, were from different tribes, but Emily visited La Push often and they always met up when she did. Considering Jade was ten years her senior, Emily looked up to Jade, and Jade always treated her like a little sister. Emily was claimed to be the nicest person alive, nicer than Jade herself. She was too nice in Raven's book.

"It's great, thanks. Did you three really move all this stuff in here in a few hours?"

As if on cue, her giant of a brother came barreling down the stairs and stopped cold at the sight of her room. "What the fuck? This - this isn't a room! This is an entire fucking house!"

Raven raised an eyebrow. Kyle wasn't one to get jealous often. He was a large specimen of a man, but he was softer than Raven. "I - I know. Did - is dad okay? Like...we didn't steal money from a mafia or gang and are now forced to be on the run, are we?"

The three boys burst out laughing. "Nah, no mafias. Can't promise about the gangs though..."

"Quil, shut up!" The boy on the right said again.

Raven groaned, "Okay, what are your names again?"

"Seriously, this isn't fair. You're only a few years older than me and you get your own fucking house!? No!"

"I'm Quil Artera. That's Embry Call, and the giant is Jacob Black."

She scoffed. "You're all giants, even my brother."

They shrugged. "Dad! What the hell is this!?"

He ran upstairs, and Raven followed, curious to see where this went. He was towered over her dad by the front door, hands clenched into fists. "Her room is huge! It's a fucking house!"

"Apartment," Luke inserted calmly.

And then, Kyle slammed his hand on the wall. "I don't care! I almost reach the ceiling in my room and she-,"

"You're the reason we moved here, Kyle. I don't want to hear it."

Kyle was panting, deep heavy breaths similar to the sound of an over-exhausted dog. The rage in his eyes expressed so much anger, anger she was not used to seeing in him. Raven jerked back as he began to physically shake.

"Out!" Jacob shouted. "Now, Kyle." She looked at him in confusion, but he pushed past her and grabbed Kyle by the arm. Embry yanked open the door while Quil helped shove Kyle out of the door. Raven began to run after him, unsure how being outside would solve anything, but Embry quickly closed the door and blocker her path with arms over his chest.

"What are you doing? Move," Raven attempted to shove him aside, but he stood firm. She glared up at him. "I don't like you giants."

Embry just smirked with satisfaction. "Sam wanted to talk to Kyle anyways. So does six sound good?"

"We're just going to forget that my calm, quiet, nice little brother just turned into the hulk?" Raven voiced with disbelief. "Okay, sure. Why not?"

"He's a teenager, Lo. You remember how moody you were then," Luke chuckled.

Raven deadpanned. "Yeah. When I was fourteen, not seventeen!" She sighed. "What's at six?"

"We're all – and by all, I mean Emily and Sue Clearwater – bringing over a bunch of food to welcome you to La Push. Normally, we have you over to Sam and Emily's house -,"

"But since they renovated it for us by hand, I insisted," her father finished for Embry. "Are you one of the boys joining us in the shop?"

Embry shifted uncomfortably. "No. The last time I messed with a car, Jacob about bit my head off. Literally. Jacob's still in school, but he'll be with you in the evenings. I think Paul is the only one with you full time."

Raven shook her head. "Who the hell is Paul? When were you going to tell me you were hiring somebody else?"

Luke closed his eyes, gaining patience. "We'll see you later, Embry. Is Paul coming tonight?" He nodded. "Good. Need a ride home?"

Embry snorted. "Sam's place is a five-minute walk from here. Thanks, though."

Luke nodded, watching him jog off towards the road. He closed the door and looked tiredly at Raven. She stared back, equally as determined to ream him a new one for something today. So maybe she did know how it felt to be quite temperamental in her teens…even when she wasn't in her teens anymore.

"It's our shop, Dad! What happened to partners?"

Luke sighed and walked into the living room, picking up Ryker from his play pen. "These people need more than a few repairs here, Raven – they need new engines…new frames. It's not like at home where there were twenty different auto shops."

Raven pulled at her hair so hard the eagle feather fell to the wood floor. "Dad. I'm an engineer. I graduated early from high school and college so that I know how to do this!"

Luke gave her a look. "And these boys need work."

"I'm not comfortable with this."

"We'll be in over our heads."

"One is in high school! He's going to be clueless! And I doubt Paul knows much more!"

"They've grown up working on cars, Raven. Just give them a chance," Luke said. She opened her mouth. "It was part of the deal, okay? Coming up here, living in your mother's old-now-restored house, opening up the shop…"

"Wait. What? This was…this was mom's home?" she whispered. Coldness hit her like a brick wall, seeping into her chest to captivate her heart. Her mom had walked these floors as a kid. Her mom had grown up…right here.

Luke nodded persistently, like it was obvious. "Yes. Are you satisfied yet?"

"I – yes," she gritted through clenched teeth. "But I'll be watching them. If they screw up my work…"

Luke waved a hand, taking Ryker into the living room and making a baby-smile at him. "Whatcha got there?"

Raven sighed heavily. She didn't like having two men breathing over her neck every day. She distinctly remembered that feeling back in Seattle. Nobody was comfortable with a girl fixing their car. She kicked at the ground, owning a distinct feeling Luke had arranged this to get business. And if that was the case, it made her blood boil. Unfortunately, they were in no position to refuse business from ignorant people.

With minor interest, she explored the rest of the expansive house in still a new light. Her mother grew up within these walls…

A/N: Sooo what did you all think? It's been a while since I posted in this fandom. I so sorry. Also, this was only edited by me so sorry for spelling errors. Anyhow, what are you all thinking? Thoughts? I'd like to see about four or five reviews before the next update. Please tell me there are people out there still in love with Paul!

Fun fact: I changed Raven's name at least four times. Started with Raven, then went to Harley, then to Lexi, then back to Raven. LOL. Couldn't decide! Do you think Raven fits her? I think so.
