Chapter 1:

A small girl with raven hair reaching her shoulders, wearing a simple maroon dress sat on the beach, crying into her legs, the tears gradually cascading down her face on to the hem of her dress. She stayed like that for a long while to calm the turmoil of emotions. This girl was Nico Robin, the one who ate the hane hane no mi and is known as the demon for her abilities to sprout limbs like flowers anywhere within sight.

For that, she has been ostracised by her village, especially the children. Even her own family despises her only place that she finds solace is with Clover, an old man with hair styled as a clover leaf, and the other archaeologists of the island. There, she is able to be feel loved and experience the joys of learning, gaining knowledge to pass the joy had taken a turn for the worst when she learnt something that she hadn't.

She learnt how to read the ancient text of the poneglyphs, monoliths that detail the history of the blank period. After a lot of persuasion, she managed to get the joyous approval of her senpais. Despite this, the other villagers felt no love for her. This led her to where we are now. After holding in the raging sorrow in her heart for so long, denying her achievement broke the damn of emotions.

"Why do they hate me so much? I didn't ask for these powers. This... curse. I didn't ask for my mother to leave me behind for her expeditions. So... why?"

As she expected, the young archaeologist received no answer. All was silent bar the swishing of the waves which was soft and soothing as if to calm and lull the girl to sleep. As she was staring out into the ocean in an attempt to find an answer, she saw a heap floating towards her. Robin stood up quickly and ran towards it to find out what it is.

What she found was a boy around her age hanging on to a broken branch. When the boy drifted a bit closer, Robin sprouted a link of arms to grab onto in order to pull him onto shore, carefully avoiding the lapping waves of the ocean. She turned him around to get a better look at the situation and fell to her knees to check his pulse.

She slightly panicked when she didn't hear or feel anything and proceeded to perform CPR on him since she read a little about it from a book she read earlier that week. She began pumping his chest and after a few pumps, blew air into his mouth to jump start his respiratory system. The navy haired boy began spluttering and coughing water out as he suddenly shot up.

"Urghh where the heck am I?" He asked groggily, looking around with blurred vision. When he regained his senses, he noticed a young girl's face, her eyes red and swollen. "Uhh, hello? Are you alright? You look like you've been crying. What's the matter? Oh, I'm Nagisa by the way. Nagisa Ira." The boy asked, completely disregarding his earlier position.

"I'm Nico Robin, but that's not important. You should be more concerned about yourself. You didn't have a pulse!" She exclaimed. Nagisa just waved her off with a shrug until he became serious again.

"Come on, you can tell me. I mean, you saved me from dying so you must be a good person, and if a good person like you is crying then I can't just stand by and let it happen. No way, no how!"

Time seemed to stand still as the words left his mouth. Robin sat there dumbfounded that someone other than the archaeologists saw good in her and was being nice to her. A stray tear was only thing she could conjure up from her nearly depleted wells. Finally deciding to lower her walls of security, she told him why she was crying and about her life here on Ohara.

Robin looked up to see the boy's reaction and waited for him to walk away, calling her a demon. Nagisa's hair shadowed his eyes and his hand was clenched into a fist to quell the rage he was feeling. These people, her family even, cast her away because of reasons like that? Deciding to calm down in order to not scare her, he breathed out a sigh and looked at Robin with a kind smile.

"Demon? Heh yeah right. They must be blind because all I see is an angel. Even though you are weak to water, you risked saving a complete stranger like me. You are an amazing, kind and pretty girl and don't let anyone tell you otherwise unless they want to taste the fury of a real demon hahaha!" Nagisa cackled towards the end with illusionary fire behind him; thoughts of rampaging in the town like a monster coming to mind. Robin was taken aback by what he said but soon giggled at the funny display. The two talked with each other about random things until the sun began to set. Robin stood up and faced Nagisa with a look of sadness.

"I have to go home now. It was really nice talking to you. Will you be here tomorrow." She asked hopefully. Nagisa smirked and have her a thumbs up.

"Of course, can't leave my friend alone now can I? I had heaps of fun talking with you!" Robin froze momentarily.

'Friend?' She smirked back. 'Yeah, friend. My first real friend.' With a wave, she left for her home, not even the downgrading of her family would extinguish the flames of happiness within her. When Robin was out of sight, Nagisa plopped down onto the sand, looking at the sea of stars, shining down upon world below. He reached his hand out towards the sky as if trying to grasp at those celestial bodies.

"You think you're a demon but you really are an angel. Me on the other hand... Don't worry, I'll protect you for as long as you see it necessary. That's a promise." Nagisa proclaimed before dropping his hand and letting nature's soothing sounds lull him to sleep.

The next morning after Robin finished all her chores in record time, the raven-haired girl ran straight to the beach where her friend was last. There she saw the boy in question sitting in a makeshift raft with what looked like a branch. After getting a little closer, she could make out a thin line, which reflected the sun's rays, connected to the branch and the ocean. No sooner did he jerk up and pull the branch above his head and to her amazement, a big carp flew into the air. Turning his head, Nagisa spotted the amazed look on his friend's face and began waving at her.

"Heyyyyyy Robin-chan!" Robin blushed at the honorific but shook her head quickly before waving back. When Nagisa made it back onto shore, Robin had to ask him something that was on her mind.

"Hey uh Nagisa-kun, why were you drifting in the ocean when I found you?" The navy haired boy stopped his cooking and put his finger to his chin as if in thought.

"Hmm, I didn't tell you did I. Well the story is... I was fishing in my boat when I got caught in a whirlpool." Nagisa replied with a sheepish look. Robin just looked at him like he was crazy before sighing, accepting it as a 'Nagisa' thing."Here, it's a still hot so you might want to blow on it before you eat." The boy told as he handed her another carp he must've caught before she arrived.

Robin blew a few times before nibbling on the side of the fish. With little ingredients to work with, it didn't taste amazing but the charred texture was completely new to her as everyone used stoves to cook their meals. To sum it up, it was a delicious new experience. They continued to talk with each other while they ate and even played a few games such as tag, volleyball with a ball they found nearby, and even built some sand castles. This was what she always wanted. To play with other kids and have fun. Robin couldn't be any happier. She slammed the ball down and Nagisa tried to hit it back up only for it to bounce right in front of his hand out of reach.

"Haha, I win!" Robin laughed savouring the look of Nagisa as he stood up with sand all over his face. Nagisa was about to make a witty comeback until he saw a figure heading towards the island in the distance. Squinting, he tried to make out he shape only to freeze and clench his fist. Robin, noticing the change in mood in the boy came closer and looked at what he was staring at. "What is that? Is that... a boat?"

"It's the Marines and by the looks of it, it's a vice admiral ship. You better tell your people quick. This can't be good." Nagisa said with a hard look. Despite wanting to ask why he thought this wouldn't be good, the sound of his voice and the look on his face told her that he was serious and that she should trust him. She sprinted towards the Tree of Wisdom where the other archaeologists were. She pushed the door open and saw the archaeologists running around hiding books and what not. The raven-haired girl spotted her teacher, Clover conversing with a familiar looking woman with white hair. Deciding to figure out who she was later, she bounded over to the old man and told him that the marines were coming. He nodded sagely before turning towards the woman, his eyes drifting between the two girls. The older woman got the message and kneeled in front of Robin.

"You probably don't remember me, and it's probably best if you don't but I don't know if we'll ever meet again so it's best I told you. Let me introduce myself. Hello, I'm Olvia, Nico Olvia. I'm your mother." Olvia began to explain why she hadn't been there for the young girl for most of her life but Robin wasn't listening. Kneeling in front of her was her mother, a person she wanted to meet since she was young. She leapt forward and grasped her mother in a tight embrace as if letting go would wake her up from this unbelievable dream.

"O-okaasan? Is that really you?" Robin asked with a quivering lip hoping it was true. Olvia let loose a few tears at hearing her daughter call her okaasan. After all this time, she still accept her as her mother. As family. The two Nico's continued to embrace each other with tears flowing down their face, the others in the library smiling at the heart warming scene. The moment was broken when they heard Clover cough.

"I'm sorry to interrupt but we need to deal with the Marine situation." Olvia gave her daughter one last look.

"Robin, dear, you should get away as fast you can. This won't end well. Please, get on a boat with the other villagers and get away from the island." The words broke Robin's heart.

"No, please don't leave me. I finally found you again. Don't leave me alone again." Robin exclaimed, more tears threatening to spill. She felt a finger poke her chest and looked up to see her smiling mother.

"I'll always be with you, in here. As long as you treasure those you care about, you'll never be alone." Standing up, Olvia ran towards the door as an army of men dressed in white could be seen coming up the hill. "Now get out of here, Robin quickly!" Before anyone could move, a man with black combed hair wearing a suit with a pink under shirt kicked the door open, pushing Olvia to the floor. He looked around and ordered his men to bring all the researchers outside. When everyone was lined up, he began his speech.

"I am Chief Commander Spandine of CP9, I order you to tell us what you know!" What happened was a blur for Robin. Clover talked on a den den mushi to the Gorosei, the head of the World Government in order to confirm his theory on the void century. Before she knew it, Clover was shot and all hell broke loose. Spandine initiated the Buster Call causing destruction to the island from the hundreds of battleships stationed out in the waters. Her mother screamed for her to escape. Listening to her mother, she ran towards the beach where Nagisa was and saw him loading a bunch of supplies onto his raft.

"Robin-chan, I heard the gun fire, I was about to find you, what's going on." Robin could only run into his arms and cry.

"The Marines, t-they, they killed them, they killed everybody." She sobbed into his shirt. Nagisa could only stroke her back, glaring at the rising smoke. He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her away.

"Robin-chan, we need to get out of here." Sniffing, she nodded and hopped onto the raft. Nagisa began pushing the raft offshore and was about to hop on until he noticed his breath become visible. His instincts screamed to jump out of the way and never proving him wrong, he pushed the raft to the side and jumped in the other direction as a narrow blast of ice shot past.

Turning around he saw a tall man wearing a long black jacket and blue under shirt. He had an black afro hidden under a blue bandana with both it and his jacket sporting a white marine emblem. This man was Kuzan, otherwise known as Aokiji, a rising vice admiral. "Why are you doing this!? These people are innocent damn it!" Nagisa screamed at the man.

"I'm just doing my job, we're just here for the researchers. The villagers will be safe, look you can see them being shipped to somewhere safe. The two kids turned and saw a large boat full of villagers that Robin can recognise, only to gasp when a huge ball of magma crashed into the boat, annihilating them in the process. Nagisa continued to stare for a few more seconds before slowly turning to the vice admiral with a cold and angry look. Aokiji had a shocked look as well but that didn't matter. Those people died, and for what?

"You bastards! Is this what you call justice? Is this something you can be proud of!? You marines are all the same. Spouting nonsense about justice while just doing whatever you damn please!" Nagisa shouted angrily. Aokiji quickly turned to the boy.

"We went too far. I would never do something like this!" Nagisa stared at the man, analysing him.

"Then let us go. End this senseless bloodshed." The vice admiral looked down regretfully.

"I'm afraid I can't do that. She is a scholar like the others. She knows too much. Give the girl to me and I'll let you leave."

"You think I'll hand over my friend just like that? Sorry buddy but I'm not as heartless as you bastards." Nagisa turned around and looked at Robin straight in the eye. "Get out of here Robin-chan, I'll hold him off as long as I can. I won't last long so you have to hurry."

"No you can't leave me. You're the only friend I have. I've lost everything. I'm not losing you too!" She cried out. Nagisa only smiled warmly at her and reached around his neck to pull out a necklace with a crystal raindrop hanging on the thread. He looked at it nostalgically before tossing it at the young scholar.

"Take my necklace. You're my precious friend so I'll give you something equally as precious. That necklace means a lot to me so return it to me when we meet again okay?" Like so many times these last few days, Robin began to cry. Her best and only friend was risking and probably sacrificing his life so that she may live on.

She clutched the necklace to her heart and nodded frantically. The navy haired boy grinned at her before pushing the air front of him in the direction Robin was. "We'll meet again, I promise." A wave rose into the air and carried the last surviving member of Ohara away from the Marines clutches.

"You are either an incredibly brave boy or an incredible fool. The marines won't stop until she's either captured or dead you know. You just sacrificed yourself for no reason." Aokiji said with a straight face.

"I'll just have to find her and protect her won't I?" The water user said with a smirk.

"You think you'll get out of here? You assisted the escape of a wanted criminal meaning your an accomplice." Nagisa smirked died down as he continued his glare.

"Robin-chan is my friend and is innocent, not a criminal. I promised her I'll meet her again and I keep my promises. No matter the enemy, no matter the situation, I'm not going to die until I meet her again. That's a promise of a life time." Nagisa said getting into a stance in order to stave off the vice admiral.

Aokiji couldn't help but admire the determination and loyalty of this young boy who would give up everything for a friend and yet have the utmost belief that he will come out of a battle with a vice admiral, a man who has been nominated to be an admiral. Unbeknownst to the vice admiral, Nagisa eyes became slitted. The boy suddenly exploded with power similar to conqueror's haki but was different. This was his pure will power radiating off of him. The navy-haired boy conjured a watery coat with 2 serpentine headed tails sprouting from behind him. Aokiji took an involuntary step back as the demon like figure looked up. Glowing slitted cerulean eyes shown back at him as a low growl reverberated towards the demon's next prey.

Aokij activated his ice logia abilities, the frost growing and spreading over his face. The marine vice admiral wasn't going to take any chances. This... thing... wanted to shred him, tear him apart if the bloodlust and raw power he was sensing was any indication. Nagisa bounded forward in a burst of speed and swiped with his right hand and missed the marine but missed mere centimetres as Aokiji bent backwards, his instincts screaming for him to dodge.

Five larges blades of water shot out of Nagisa's hand like claws and were sent sailing over the dodging vice admiral and into the cliff face, leaving small indentations. Aokiji twisted and kicked the boy in the face with a frost infused leg, sending the victim of the attack barrelling into the cliff face with parts of the water coat frosted over. Minutes passed and nothing seemed to move. The tall man let out a sigh of relief only to sharpen his attention to the cliff as faint snarling could be heard.

The navy haired boy slowly clawed his way out of his hole in the cliff and fell down into a crouched position until he sprang forward like a bullet, his serpentine tails pointed in front like an aerodynamic spear to pierce and maul at its target. Aokiji tried to dodge but was caught in the shoulder, nothing fatal but left the man in a hell of a lot of pain. The ice quickly reformed in the missing section, leaving the man perfectly fine but Aokiji had no room to breathe as Nagisa began to rapidly claw at the man with his tails also attacking by biting at out-stretched limbs.

One tail almost made mince meat of him but with a sharp turn and an upper cut to the jaw the beast in front of him delayed the assault for a few seconds before the same tail rushed forward and was aimed for the vice admiral's jugular. Fearing for his life, Aokiji shot a pheasant made of ice in front of him to block the attack only for it to miss and strike somewhere that made the tall man widen his eyes at in shock.

The pheasant buried itself into the boys chest, leaving a large wound to appear and freeze over due to frostbite. Aokiji was left in a sense of fear for killing the boy that wanted to protect his friend but that thought soon left him as the demonic figure only staggered forward before slowly moving again and gradually but quickly regained its former speed and ferocity.

If anything, the demonic boy was surely pushing Aokiji to his limits but the longer they played their little game of cat and mouse, the more tired he could see Nagisa was getting from either fighting or staying in that form. Like he predicted the boy fell to his knees and the watery coat that encompassed him receded into the boy, leaving a bloodied and battered boy with a large scar on his chest.

Looking closer, Aokiji could see that Nagisa was unconscious from the battle. Despite the courage and loyalty the boy showed for his friend, he still showed incredible powers that were eerily close to those of a demon, so the man did the only thing he thought was right and 'just'. He froze him in a large ice berg using 'Ice Age' and sent him into the ocean to drift a float. 'You are too powerful. With training, you could turn the world on its head. Whether you survive or die is up to lady luck. This is the only thing I can offer to you for the injustice today as well as your bravery. I pray we meet on better circumstances. Goodbye.' Aokiji thought before walking towards his ship looking a little worse for wear but not too bad.
