Sounds of Silence

Stay silent within the house,
Stay as quiet as a mouse.
Do not venture to world outside,
For that's where the monsters reside.

...

Feel free to shine a light,
For the monsters are bereft of sight.
But on silence life depends,
Make a peep, your flesh they'll rend.

...

I know silence will take its toll,
It's a prison for the mind and soul.
Hard to wake and hard to sleep,
For into dreams our nightmares creep.

...

Animals too mute their words,
No barks of dogs or songs of birds.
But still, we are the beasts' main prey,
Which we are without means to slay.

...

Can only hope we shall prevail,
As bodies and minds are assailed.
But members of the human race,
Must each find their own quiet place.
